Good story telling, cinematography, costuming, acting, directing. Not a fast paced action nor full of romance but it builds up the suspense and romance (interest). It balances the stress with the feel good plutonic and familial relationships. I would even say, it’s not trophy. And it tells the story not through characters spelling everything out but by subtle actions, gestures, background activity, etc. The acting, makeup and costumes feel more natural and realistic, not over the top skin smoothing, ornate clothing, etc. character conduct and thinking is more of the time vs modern values inserted . even the fighting choreography is not overly fancy which feels real to me - more efficient fighting. It’s my daily relaxation. It’s very difficult to watch another drama while I’m following this because of the level of quality of this drama. There’s also allusions to real historical figures and events even though the drama has a disclaimer that it’s totally fictional.

So if this type of drama is not your cup of tea, then check out some other currently airing ones.

Ah, I’m suffering from frozen smiling face syndrome again! Ep 20 was so fun to watch. Ml’s expressions after seeing how well our fl is doing without any thought of him. Hahaha…. And then taking it out on the wild orchid (representing her)… and annoyed at the pesky butterflies (male poet) attracted to it (her). And his servant completely clueless.
