Actually before watching the drama, I read a comment someone explaining about their relationship. But after completing…
They are probably either brothers or cousins
I dont remember which exact episode, but they did explain their relationship with a throwaway 3-4 sentences. They did say ML is the youngest prince, and he helped the current Emperor to ascend. The reason the Emperor trust him alot is because ML saved him from an assassination attempt when they were still Princes and ML have no ambition for the throne

The reason why the character chart stated Monarch-Minister, is because its just a direct translation of the mandarin salutations when they call each other, it doesn't mean they are not blood related.

The Emperor is the highest authority in the court, even if you are blood-related, as long as you work in his court, you have to address yourself as 臣 (Minister). Since ML worked in his court, he have to use 臣 (minister)

ML's title is Prince of Dingbei which is 定北王. Only males of royal bloodline, from the male side of the family tree, can use this title 王 (King/Prince). Which means, if anything happens to the current Emperor, all the current 王(Kings/Princes) will be in line for consideration to ascend to be the next 皇 (Emperor)

I’m half way and am really enjoying this. I find the FL rather adorable. She’s prone to misunderstanding but…
FL's insanely adorable and cute!! Her puffy eyebag😍

For those in the comments who consider themselves progressive and advocate for strong female leads, it's surprising…
Damn!
Took the words out of my mouth!
Well Said!!!

She doesn’t really believe him but there is a misunderstanding with a twist. Watch on;)
Those who are on Tan's side, are initially against the marriage, because of the numerous 'bad' rumours regarding the prince. The Prince have been away from the capital, fighting at the border for years, so noone really knows how he looks like or his character. Only the older nobles like the Marquis know the true character of the prince, this is why he accepted the marriage

Min Min's father is uncle to the FL (Brother of her deceased mother), Min Min is her cousin

Godfather doesnt need to be blood-related

Title The Prisoner of Beauty Spoiler
Does the Quio Uncle join forces with Liuyang and attack Wei? I hope not!!!!
Yes he did, but he got killed off by Liu Yan pretty quickly
And none of the Qiao family mourn for him, they are pretty much indifferent to his death at the end lol

I'm always hesitant to leave a review under cdramas because unlike kdramas the cdrama audience don't take reviews…
Honestly, on MDL, you really have alot of these fanbases hyping things way up and start hating on others if they leave a negative review, be it cdramas or kdramas. Most of them arent objective at all, they only wanna hear the good things.

Best is to stick to your own drama community who are more open to discussing both positive and negatives of a drama.

He has a bit of a redemption arc late in the drama. Wei Yan frustrated me in the beginning but I began to realize…
Honestly, I doubt I will accept him even with his redemption arc 😂
As of now, hes really grating. Hes slowing me down from mowing through the episodes, since I kept pausing at his parts and go do other things 🤣

Because in Mandarin proverb for both he and she sound the same and are not gendered. The English subs have translated…
She have the assumption that the Flower Deity is a female, because flowers is something usually associated with females in ancient chinese culture. The only thing she remembered was the flower mark, she didnt see his face at all. Watch ep 2, when she was drinking wine with him in his wine garden. She literally said 花神姐姐, which is directly translated as flower goddess

Mandarin pronouns are written differently but pronounced the same
他(he/his), 她(she/her), 它(It). All are pronounce as Tā when spoken

This is the reason why the subbing translation put she/her when shes speaking about flower deity as compared to other people where its translated as he/his, because other than her, the rest of them(including us viewers) knew the Floral Deity is a male.

Hey there :3Actually, not every god, heavenly king, their children, or other celestial beings in Chinese mythology…
The first Fairy that FL befriended in the heavenly realm is called Shaoyao (芍药), which is a herbaceous peony.

ML is Mudan (牡丹), which is a woody peony. As someone shared, Mudan is considered the "King of Flowers" in chinese culture and is generally associated with royalty/wealth etc.

Both are under the same peony family, but belongs to different distinct species.

So yes, theres actually 2 peonies in the drama, but ML gets the 'bigger' title of Mudan

I’m leaning towards not watching this after reading the above reviews and comments. That’s too bad, the cast…
Dont waste your time, I struggled to finish all 21eps...

The 2 female characters are decent and probably the ones that made the show bearable
FL is smart while 2FL is a badass fighter cum coroner

The 2 male characters are horrible...Poorly written and adds nothing to the show at all. In the beginning, the 2ML hype up the ML by saying hes very smart but hiding it to prevent misunderstanding with his elder bro. But throughout the whole show. ML was never showing his smarts, its always the FL being a step ahead in her deduction. While the ML is always explaining or exposition on hindsight. 2ML is just there as a romantic interest for 2FL

The time-travel plot is also poorly written and stupid ending as per usual. Nothing is explained well, you will go WTF?!?!? many times
