the awkward oops-we-don't-know-anything-about-each-other-because-its-been-nearly-a-decade date with jin ah and hyun kyu was surprisingly refreshing after watching quite a few time jump dramas recently!
so this drama has love triangles? Is it also has Second Lead syndrome? tbh i'm waiting this drama to complete…
id love to see him in something like my roommate is a gumiho i.e. not a cold or mean male lead but a supernatural character who is super honest and doesn't really understand the subtleties of human conversation
i absolutely adored Run On and lived for the eps each week! like a warm hug, it brought me so much comfort in the depths of winter during a global pandemic!
for me its not a romance but a slice-of-life drama about personal growth - the drama follows the lives of the 4 leads and how they come to terms and deal with the traumas of their lives so far (childhood, family, work, money etc) through their relationships with each other (platonically and romantically).
im really enjoying this drama and look forward to new eps every monday and tuesday but i def understand a lot of the criticisms that people have.
i'd like for there to have been richer world building in the earlier eps so we better understand that fantasy set up/rules and for the contract terms to be clearer (I wonder if its a translation issue and if Korean speakers have been as confused?)
the back and forth, make up-break up every episode could have been fewer, more intense instances so we get to spend more time with them when they are together and when they are wrestling with their respective existential crises.
also they could have integrated the main and sub plots earlier because pretty much all the characters know each other, work/live in the same building and have shared histories - i can't believe TDK had never seen coffee guy before (in a pic or from school days) or that TSK still doesn't know coffee guy is Ji Na's first love yet - don't these people talk to each other?!
that said, i think the acting is superb (except kevin, sorry dude) and everyone has understood their assignment (whether or not you think their assignment is any good is another question). the cinematography and score/bgm/osts are great and well used so i'm really enjoying the overall vibe of the drama!
what a perfectly paced, excellently written and superbly acted drama! this is 12 ep perfection.
all the characters were so well drawn with believable arcs and emotional weight you can't help but be invested in them. they balanced the screen time of all the different groups and relationships really well.
honestly can't recommend this drama enough (if you like slice of life type dramas about personal growth, relationships etc with no baddies just people dealing with their life issues)
at the risk of raising my expectations only to be disappointed when the drama doesn't follow my exact plot prediction...
i'm hoping they deal with the marble issue asap (he tells her the truth, she agrees to keep it for a bit or they take it out and make it blue some other way) and then team up to deal with the serial killer
i'm a sucker for main couples uniting against an external threat rather than an angsty will they/won't they-get-together dynamic driving the plot!
i thought we left these behind with the terrible american 90s-2000s sitcoms
not all heroes wear capes <3
