Excuse me, did you just become my favorite BL?? Answer: Yes, yes, you did.
(Minor spoilers, just in case) Lovable leads, no tragic pasts, no unnecessary drama, no badly written female characters, no stereotypes, enough fluff to fill a plethora of only the cuddliest of stuffed animals. And incredible casting and production quality to boot. I'll take ten more seasons, please.
This show is damn near perfect. An absolute must-watch if you like crime dramas, especially ones about serial killers. The main cast is flawless and the ost is incredible. Kim Nam Gil and Jin Seon Kyu are a dream team as the leads and every supporting actor gives it their all; other detectives, victims, and the criminals are all well done. I don't think it needs one (most things are wrapped up and anything left open I imagine is due to it being based on real people) but would love a second season. No romance (a plus, in my opinion) but plenty of friendships and a nice found family feel.
There's already detailed reviews for The Veil, better written than I could ever manage, so there's no need for me to tell you more than this is a really great show, especially if you like action/mysteries.
Instead, I'd like to take the time to send my eternal gratitude to the stylist of Namkoong Min for this this show, because hot damn.
Some of these are more found family but one is seriously a breath away from being BL. Devil Judge (π), Prison Playbook, Racket Boys, Beyond Evil, Hello Monster, Midnight Runners (movie), Move to Heaven (prepare tissues), the Good Detective, and The Guest. Hopefully one of these will strike your fancy.
I haven't finished the show yet but I think Jae Hwan and Yoong Yeop should move in together. For, um, crime solving purposes. Eugene is there too, of couse, but she has her own personal space needs, and lives in an apartment next door with an adjoining door.
On Ep 13, Trio is giving me The Guest vibes.. love the bromance between Jaehwan and Jungyeop
I was thinking the same thing! One of the reasons I love OCN dramas the most is the friendship/partnership dynamics of most of their shows, usually hate/distrust to okay-lets-work-together to I'll-fucking-die-for-this-person. The Guest remains top tier, though.
Heβs already convinced me of his skills. He is a master at using his expressions to convey exactly what he is…
Haha, agreed. I first watched him in Dr. Qin and was impressed, then in JOL and I fell in love. Now with SSS I'm convinced he's just incredible at every role he plays and I'm not just biased for a cute face with a, frankly, criminally cute mole.
Can the romance be skipped through or is too interwoven with the story? I seriously want to watch Yibo but I'm not a fan of romance. Hoping more for an action/mystery drama.
Gotcha. It is very, very political. Lol The ML doesn't have any fighting ability but his mind is sharper than any sword and he surrounds himself with talanted people to make up for it. I guess NIF is better if you like intrigue more than action. Hmm, what about Fights Break Sphere or Ever Night? Word of Honor? Also, if you have any recs like SSS or JOL, I would love to hear them. π Nothing with too much romance, though. I prefer fighting stories.

I have Kdrama recs too, if you're interested. π
