KSH did a pretty good job. It is just HJP who sucked big time. lol.
At least you're not personally attacking the actor like Indian170. So I respect your opinion on HJP. Maybe you don't like him, I didn't like DS. But is JP the only character you didn't like ?
Just chill. I'm just pointing out that there are many different perspectives. And I already posted that I don't have any problem with DoDal endgame. They are perfect for each other.
"The show was so insecure that they limited HJP any happiness, as if it felt that any ounce of happiness on HJP's side would overshadow the weak main couple."
Exactly. Only the main couple deserve a happy ending as only their choice is the right ans / key to happiness.
If JP was happy, it would prove that he was right & if he ended up with someone, they would look like the main copuple instead as JP's chemistry with a plant & AI speaker evoked more emotions from the audience than the main couples scripted skinship.
"The unhealthy relationship of the ML and his parents is very conflicting towards Asian societies and the parenting that comes from it. In fact, what is normally seen as normal in current society is vilified in the show. But instead of addressing any of the inconsistencies in the family dynamic, the show instead decides to sweep all the issues under the rug, almost like slapping a tiny band-aid on a festering wound"
Couldn't agree more. I can't believe that this issue is being ignored by the audience too.
Taking advantage of your parents when you need them & conveniently drawing a line when you no longer do is 'eyebrow raising' to say the least.
"Where we, mature audiences, are expected to root for the clueless kids who are basically attacking principles that we adults hold dear. In fact the central theme of the show is about how experience and wisdom is no match for the power of hopes and dreams. How being a dreamer is always better than being a pragmatist. In fact the show is so in love with their own hubris, that they make this message a one sided one, where the adults are not only humbled by the children, but humilated."
You hit the nail ! I think the writer sees the audience as nothing more than a bunch of 'hopeless romantics'
"The writer may have known this, and used HJP's light selfishly to extend a love triangle past its expiry date, in hopes of reeling in hopeless romantics who believe being a "Good Boy" deserves a happy ending. With each passing episode though, the metaphors started to lose meaning, the towers of theories began to crumble, and the flowers of hope began to wither."
"As viewers continue to watch the show, they journey through a harsh and arid desert, where they will continuously see mirages of depth and complexity that never materializes as anything more than repetitive clichés and negative stereotypes devoid of any creativity."
This perfectly summarizes my journey of watching Start-Up
Grandma wakes up from a horrible nightmare. She throws off her blanket & immediately runs to the young JP who is tying his shoe laces.
She gives him a warm hug & tears roll from her eyes. JP is taken aback but waits for Grandma to calm down. She holds his face b/w her palms & gives him an affectionate smile.
JP brushes her hands aside & tells her that he is quite busy & has to leave. Grandma nods & tells him to have breakfast before leaving. She holds his hands & tells him to be happy. JP is confused.
Grandma says, "You don't have to write anymore letters to DM. Study well, work hard & be successful. You have a great heart & you'll definitely be blessed with a lovely family. I'll always cherish you as my own grandson so come here whenever you want to. It's your home. I'll fight the world for you so never think that you're alone."
JP - "What are you saying ? Why will I need a Grandma to fight for me ? I'm stronger than you so I'll take care of myself. I don't want a nagging Grandma anyway. I'm leaving". He runs after shutting the door close.
He thinks back about the words Grandma said. A faint smile appears on his face & tears cover his eyes. He runs again but this time his dimples decorate his face.
So I respect your opinion on HJP. Maybe you don't like him, I didn't like DS. But is JP the only character you didn't like ?

Loved this line
Exactly. DM making him wait for 3 yrs was disrespectful to say the least. No one deserves that kind of treatment.
It hurts to even imagine being treated like that.
Most of the comments here comforted me & I want to thank you for that ♡

This is the only thing which makes me forgive Start-Up for all the pain it caused.

I thought giving it a rating of 5 was harsh but now I think giving it a 5 is over-rating it. I'll change my rating !
Thanks for reminding me ^^
