I mean, to be fair, his father murdered his mother and ML has NEVER forgotten or forgiven it, whatever the excuse…
Ha ha, right???? I'll be honest, I LOVED parts of Shadow Love, but the middle with him as JinAn dragged on WAY WAY too long. At the very least they should have allowed him to act more in accordance with his real personality as he became more comfortable, even as an amnesiac. Cheng Lei as Prince Annan was *chef's kiss* for the short time we had him.
CZY acted his heart out in this drama. It was surprising how this drama started off as a very dark one and now…
I mean, to be fair, his father murdered his mother and ML has NEVER forgotten or forgiven it, whatever the excuse was. And I'm PRETTY sure it's eventually going to come out that the new empress set up his Mom to look like a traitor back then. ML has some deep trauma and issues that stem from all of that, starting with his obsessive over-protectiveness towards his sister, his distrust or outright hatred of his father and stepmom, and unwillingness to let go of past grievances. And I agree, I am OBSESSED with CZY in this drama. I want to see him in more historical after this, such a different role for him and he is SLAYING IT.
You are 100% right, atm JingShi is obsessed with FL and I see a lot of heartbreak ahead for ML's sister. The SML obsessed with FL and unable to move past it is my LEAST favorite trope for SMLs, too. I always wish they could just have that guy move ON and fall for someone else, but I can't remember a single time when it's happened in c-dramas. I guess we'll see. But yeah, if something bad happens to his mei mei, our ML is going to be hard to control. OTOH, byt the time that occurs way down the line, I don't see the FL holding him back. She is fierce and protective of the innocent. I see her helping the ML in that scenario, lol. We will see.
And that Emperor better watch himself. If the ML thought he could get away with it, I feel both his father and stepmom would already be gone from this world.
Quite enjoyed the 6 episodes. I am hooked. Only wish they don't catch feelings so soon. It's already hinted by…
I THINK they will. Even though we've had glimmers of mutual attraction and layers of tension, he is really blinded by his hatred of the enemy. His oath to his sister was what, two episodes ago? He might be empathizing with her right now, but it's going to take this man AWHILE to acknowledge he has actual feelings for her, I think. And while she thinks he's very pretty to look at it, she is SO distrusting I see this being a very slow burn. Most enemies-to-lovers follows an enemies-forced proximity-reluctant allies-hey we work really well together actually-uh oh I think I kinda like you-I will burn the world for you flow. We are still in forced proximity and barely reached reluctant allies.
Solid first 2 episodes . Concept is new. But I am quite confused about young FL's confession about the wang family…
She didn't do it in the past (I'm pretty sure) because she arrived too late and her mother was already dying from the beating. But because the other her (our FL) interrupted it this time and her mother was still alive when she arrived, the conversation with her evil stepmother and father went differently. She "confessed" to try and throw suspicion onto the Wangs alone and remove her mother from both them and the accusations.
Disney in the US. I’m in Canada and it’s on viki only
I thought surely you would be wrong, lol, because EVERY time I hear a k-drama or c-drama is on Disney, it never is for me, but MIGHT be on Hulu. So I checked Hulu first, and nothing, but lo and behold, this one IS in fact on Disney! Guess that sub isn't a complete waste of money for me after all. (I keep it for my three year old niece, all of my subs these days are for asian drama apps, lol.)
What the...I waited until I thought a decent number of episodes were out for this, but...it appears not to be airing yet in the US?? Is that true? Not on wetv/tencent, "coming soon" to Viki...usually the major fantasy c-dramas like this air, so I'm shocked! Where are people watching it?
You guys, the way they foreshadowed him losing all of his memories of her! Guess that torture scene from the trailers is gonna be real. 😂 I am both excited for Prince Annan’s return and nervous for our girl as to how bad things will get before they get better again.
Also, WOW show, way to make me cry today with Qiao’s death. 😭
I am praying some production team out there sees their chemistry in this and decides to definitely cast them together in a modern drama. I need them in another drama together, and that bit at the end, while it served its purpose, also teased us with what could have been.
WOW. This is my favorite historical or fantasy c-drama this year after Prisoner of Beauty. The chemistry of the leads, the acting together - just like PoB, was absolutely 11/10 here. The way Arthur Chen looks at her. The way they do the small, real gestures together that feel so natural they could be ad libs between the actors (like her kissing his hand when he cups her face). Despite never being really explicit with the kissing scenes, EVERYTHING about those interactions - or even the intimate scenes when they don't kiss - is so sensual and deeply emotional. You absolutely believe watching this that they love each other across lifetimes. Another pair of actors might have made some of these scenes feel melodramatic or cheesy, but these two absolutely sold it so completely, I cried more than once.
I am SO sad they shortened this drama from 40 episodes down to 33. Was the modern world at the end originally multiple episodes long? I wish we had that. I would 1000% have watched them fall in love again. BUT even with the ending what it was, it was more than most "travel to another world" dramas give us (STILL BITTER about Love Game in Eastern Fantasy, ya'll!) I felt we got the definite implication at the end that they each remember one another, and that the "dream" she had might have indeed been something real they both experienced.
But I still would pay real money to see their story unfold again in the modern world. I'm so sad we'll never get it.
This drama must be getting more popular because the Negative Nancy's all feel like they need to come here suddenly just to say they don't like it. I've never understood that. Just move on to something else. No one enjoying this drama cares about your opinion, and if you don't like it, why waste your time to come here just to say that. Go watch something that catches your interest. 🤷🏻♀️
Now, I am LOVING Darren Chen's character. He's interesting, like a bad*** who has also lived so isolated he'd never seen fireworks before? Clearly enamored with our pretty healer, and I'm sooooo ready for her to move on from her crush to someone who will appreciate her.
Who else is NOT looking forward to the next couple of episodes with the Crown Prince playing a heavier role? I always knew it was going to happen eventually because he's "the childhood sweetheart", but I feel like we really don't need it and it's just an excuse to stretch out the story longer before our Prince Annan regains his memories. Unless the Crown Prince storyline somehow leads to that, who knows?
Anyway, still loving this drama. Love our lead couple. The more it goes on the more obsessed I am with Cheng Lei. He just looks so good in this and he's really getting a chance to show is range instead of being all cold and aloof all of the time. OTOH, I am SOOOOO ready for cold and domineering Prince Annan to come back and SO curious how that is going to play out. I'm guessing he won't remember her at first and that is what leads to the "enemies" phase. CANNOT. WAIT.
3rd Cdramas where they introduce the best character in half first ep then it's gone 😅 checking comments to…
I don't know if I'm understanding this comment. Are you saying the Prince is the best character and you're sad the ML "becomes someone else" in the first ep? Well, the Prince is coming back and it's going to be epic when he does. Also, they've already changed things from the novel. IDK, but I'm really enjoying the show. YMMV.
I guess what it means is there should've only been Xuan Yi Ke initially, but since he met and was taken under…
Exactly! IDK man, I'm here for it. I'm ready to see Prince Annan in all of his "enemy warrior prince" glory and the angst of her remembering Jin An and their bond while he doesn't...and then finally the merging of his different personas when he gets his memories back.
