I'm going need a drink (and I don't drink lol) after finishing this one. I don't think I've been this affected by a tragic love story since One and Only back in 2021.
Yep, I'm catching those shows you mentioned as well. Also watching Dear Hongrang (dark tragic love story).
Typical kdrama (period) stuff: family power struggles, a love triangle and a dark mystery, but the production is lavish, and the music really stands out. Love the acting from the whole cast too. If you don' t mind the darker tone (and some violence), you can check it out!
I wondered what kind of romance the two leads would have……since I heard that they changed the whole storyline…
From the novel, I liked how both the FL and ML were strong and smart, but each had their own issues from their past to deal with. I didn't like so much how toxic their relationship was though. I like the enemies to lovers trope or a good slow burn, but I would appreciate more seeing how their learning to work together helps to heal them from their past wounds. Definitely romance in the novel, but we'll see how it works on in the drama. I don't necessarily need romance for it to work for me as long as there is good onscreen chemistry.
I'm actually more interested in how well the political storyline is written. Too often this part of these types of shows fails in logic and suspense for me to keep watching.
An Tu better not mess with Hai plan for the Marquis
I think they may butt heads for a little while longer, but I get the feeling she's after the Marquis as well, so they'll probably join forces later on. We'll see.
In Ep 1, you see Marquis Pingjin kill off ML's entire family and his Dad's disciples. In Ep 9, ML finds a secret chamber in Marquis' home that holds the bloody clothes of his parents - and his mother's skin (cue gag and vomit).
ML is impersonating FL's long lost half brother Hongrang. He's got a backstory of his own and a reason for infiltrating the Sim household. Don't want to spoil too much, but they aren't related at all by blood.
I'm getting Count of Monte Cristo vibes from this. Wondering about jumping in, but I've never really really followed…
If you've watched and enjoyed Nirvana in Fire or Joy of Life, you might like this. They are all very distinct from each other, however, so it's maybe best to check out the first 3 eps (warning: ep 1 is bloody) to decide.
For me, by ep 7, I'm hooked. You are invested in his revenge after you get to see all the villains do their horrible stuff.
