I'm wondering why this drama has a high rate!!! I'm not familiar with the Chinese opera, I'm sure it's great though.I'm…
This series is VERY Chinese. There are lots of cues that you're just not going to pick up on if you aren't familiar with Chinese history or culture. Even the operas make very deep points in reference to the story at large that are completely lost on international audiences.
About the pace, Chinese dramas always build slow. The stage is set by around ep 25 and shit hits the fan from episode 33 onwards. I'd recommend checking out AvenueX's videos on YouTube about this drama and I think you could appreciate it more. Also, just take your time. This one isn't a binger.
Reading through the comments reminds me of why it's better for me to wait until a BL fully airs and then binge it/watch it at my own leisure. During the week between each episode, it seems like a lot of people formed in their own minds how they thought the story should go in the next episode and then complained when it didn't go that way. I feel like this kinda blurs judgement a bit.
I saw the PeteKao cut, Our Skyy, then this all within the span of a few days and it really didn't come off to me as bland as it clearly did to so many. Maybe it was an 'anticipation then let down' kinda thing? I'm not sure.
For me, I thought the series was good. Nothing surprised me and nothing really wowed me except for Pete and Kao's relationship with their parents which honestly brought a tear to my eye at one point and is one of the most tender things I've seen in a BL. Could some of the kisses have been more passionate? Meh I guess, but every series isn't gonna be at the level of TharnType and Why R U when it comes to that kinda thing and it's OK for me since I don't feel like the couples were less passionate for it.
At this point, I really don't think anyone will be as heavily let down or disappointed by this series as the people who watched it week by week. lol
This is a lifesaver. Glad I saw this comment only a few episodes in. I've been trying to get through Kiss Me Again…
The main reason I was putting it off was because I knew it was a drama full of straight couples with like one and half gay couples on the side and I had 0 patience for sitting through all that. lol
I just started watching this now, so I'm only on episode four (I wanted to wait for all the episodes to finish…
This takes place after Kiss Me Again/Our Skyy. Kao's dad said to not let other people know they're in a relationship, so I guess they decided to respect that? Not sure about the photography thing though.
That’s a good question, and I’m sure it will excite lots of passionate answers.Actually – silence, avoiding…
"Actually – silence, avoiding eye-contact and ignoring are ways of communication too… Ram doesn’t talk much, but he says a lot. ;-)"
Yeah, that was my least favorite quality of his. Ok, some people are quieter than others and some speak more 'loudly' in body language, but in Ram's case, it came off a little silly a few times.
"Both characters appear to be written in such a way as to fit perfectly together. So, when they finally move closer, the viewer might share in the feeling of emerging completeness. Maybe that couple's story touches a cord in the human heart that is played not very often, something like wishing the caring, innocent and pure to meet ever enduring bliss?'
That's an interesting perspective! They still seem detached from reality and dry to me, though. I just don't believe them...mostly Ram, but since they're together now, I really, really, REALLY want the writers to flesh out their relationship more. Tay and Perth are good actors. They deserve it.
I only watched the Pete Kao cut made by the production company...which I enjoyed a lot. I had seen lots of videos with New and Tay before, but I put off this series for a long time. I got so used to seeing Tay as he is...which is super nice and sweet, it was weird to see him be an asshole in this. I really like their chemistry. They're naturals. As much as I love New and all the roles he plays, I feel like he gets a little type-casted sometimes. M-Apo-Kao are all basically the same character but in different series. I'd like to see him in a more different kind of role.
Can i watch the episodes based on shows i haven’t watched yet?
I wouldn't recommend it. It's not that you wouldn't be able to follow the story of what's going on in the the episode itself, it's that you don't get the satisfaction knowing all the evolution, hardship and effort it took to get to this point. This is especially true for the Sotus episode. If don't watch Sotus before watching episode 5, the emotions really won't have the same impact.
Episode 3 on the other hand, some people would say that it's better than the entire Cause You're My Boy series...I don't know if I actually agree with that, but I can see where people are coming from. As for the others, I'll edit my comment after I've finished them. I just wanted to comment now to let you know for godsake, PLEASE at least watch Sotus first. lol
What is it about RamKing exactly? I...don't see it. I feel like I like all the couples pretty evenly, but RamKing seem so far from reality. Is it because King is so charming and because Ram effectively doesn't respond 80% of the time when he finally does respond in the most subtle way it makes everyone's heart jump?
Acting: Pretty much flawless Music: I've been listening to it on Spotify all day. Story: Basic, but well-executed. Production quality: Korean (so: high quality)
I really liked the music and all the scenes of them being out in the city. Seoul is such a nice backdrop for a romance. Both actors conveyed the feelings of the characters so well in my opinion and, for as short as this was, I still think it was very well-written.
I've seen lots of comparisons to Thai BL here in the comments and I feel like Korean BL, like Chinese BL novels turned heavily-implicative bromances, are in a category all their own. We totally *can* compare the two, but I'm kinda doubtful of how fair that is to do.
