No consent is a problem. While it is fiction, it's not OK to just romaticise it. Love by Chance also had a scene…
I've seen both this and LBC and I promise you it comes across WAYYYY worse in LBC because: 1) Kengkla is a stalker 2) Techno's brother sells him off. 3) Kengkla f***ing PLANS the rape while Techno is drunk BECAUSE Techno is drunk. 4) Kengkla LIES straight Techno's face saying that Techno took advantage of HIM and tries to manipulate him into being his boyfriend. In this drama, nothing even close to any of those things happen.
HOWEVER, what did happen wasn't OK, but at least it was addressed as being as problematic as it is by both characters, but they work through it which is why people take a lot of issue. Dating your own rapist is weird...even if you did technically have a little crush on them and came onto them while you were blackout drunk.
Also worth noting: in the Make It Right the novel, the character who's raped in the live drama (Fuse) is actually very coherent....while in LBC the novel Techno actually tells Kengkla "NO" multiple times and he does it anyway.
LBC pissed me off so bad. It was a perfect show for me until Kengkla came along and shat on it in the last episode.
Definitely agree about the lack of acting skills. I guess that's kinda true about the white privilege thing, but…
Also, next time you decide to attack something online, you should stick to the topic instead of drifting into ad hominem rants against people just because of the country they come from. It really makes you look as bigoted as those corrupted people you were criticizing.
Definitely agree about the lack of acting skills. I guess that's kinda true about the white privilege thing, but…
“Believe me when i say Chinese people are the root cause of all the problems we see in the Thai media today (as well as systemic racism). " We agreed on that at the beginning. I don't even know why you keep bringing that up.
"You should humble yourself and stop the chinese nationalism. We already have to deal with the CCP supporting our Junta dictatorship government, their gentrification, and building dams to cut off our water supply in the Mekong river. We also don't need them also STEALING our identity. Instead worry about how your country has no free speech and why your government is lying about the coronavirus.”
Sweetheart, nobody's touting anything about nationalism or politics except you. There's a billion people here. A big portion of that billion hate the government just as much as you do. Believe me. Why don't you hear about it?...You guessed it! The government. lol So, please don't think we also don't realize how much they're bullshitting. I'm not stealing anyone's identity either, so you should really drop that. I don't know many times I need to explain how I haven't done that at all. And lastly, yeah, they probably are lying about the virus. They lie about everything else too.
The rest of what you said I'm in full agreement with. Bright really was garbage in this series.
Definitely agree about the lack of acting skills. I guess that's kinda true about the white privilege thing, but…
"Not as rude as calling someone chinese without even asking? The world does not revolve around China and not all asians are chinese. Viets are not chinese and Thais are not chinese. FYI ethnic thais are genetically similar to Viets than Han Chinese!"
I haven't mentioned anyone being of Chinese descent who is not in fact of Chinese descent. To the rest of it: You're absolutely right.
"Yeah but you were previously making blanket statements on all actors being chinese. Which is false. A majority of them are MIXED chinese (just look at Mew Suppasit's mom for god's sake), but you were also taking away the identity of the native thais and mislabeling them as chinese too! We should also point out that not all mixed chinese actually look chinese FYI (aka Mew)"
I didn't make a blanket statement. This is evidenced by the fact that I didn't use phrases like "all actors are Chinese"...which is indeed false. Being mixed Chinese is being ethnically Chinese and something else. I don't understand why you seem have a problem with the Chinese part of this mix? lol
"LOL but i literally just argued with a bunch of filipinos who were saying that Bright looks thai? Some even said that Chalita and Maria from Miss Universe looks "thai" when in reality they're both mixed white too. CLEARLY thats not the case. So what the heck are you even talking about?
I was responding to when you said people have the perception that if you walk around Thailand, they would expect to see half-white people everywhere. No. lol...talk about blanket statements...
"Mixed white actors are misrepresenting the country image all while there is a severe lack of diversity and that is the fault of the Chinese elite (which you unsurprisingly choose not to criticize)."
My criticism of that was the last line of my first response to you. I also think it's a pretty shitty thing and I hope we can see the playing field evened out.
"But not as over represented as Mixed white. Mixed Chinese accounts for a majority of the population in Bangkok while mixed white does not. Thats a big difference. There are also thai celebs who are from the North that you falsely grouped up with these Mixed chinese celebs from Bangkok."
Still disagree with that first sentence. TopTap is of Chinese descent. No miscategorization there. Whether full Chinese or partial Chinese descent is still Chinese descent? One ethnicity doesn't outweigh the other, but the topic was the Chinese part, which is why I mentioned that.
"But what we're dealing with are chinese nationalist going out of their way to claim anyone in Thailand with yellow skin as chinese and let me tell you, that is absolutely false! I've met chinese people who were darker than me yet i never went out of my way to take away their identity as a chinese person, yet you think its okay to do the same to the Thai people? Okay...."
This hasn't anything to do with me nor what I said. I haven't attempted to take anyone's identity away. Meanwhile, you sure seem to be making a lot of implications that take away Bright's Thai-ness while resenting his whiteness, but I digress. Clearly, you have some issues with a lot of people who've been as rude and presumptuous toward you as you're being toward me. I hope you have a better day.
P.S.- being from China ≠ ethno-nationalist...which should go without saying, but here we are.
Definitely agree about the lack of acting skills. I guess that's kinda true about the white privilege thing, but…
"LOL i knew you were a chinese nationalist." Ew. Presumptuous and rude.
"You want to talk about overrepresented? Mixed white is considered over represented because they makeup only a tiny percentage of the population yet are primed to frequently get lead roles more than any other ethnicity. "
I didn't say they were n't overrepresented, just that it was more so for Chinese. While we're on the word 'Chinese', you understand that Chinese applies to both a nationality AND an ethnicity...right?
"So much so that you'd think the streets were filled with mixed white."
Hmmm I don't think many people think that when they think about Thailand tbh. lol
"and to correct your statement. Its more like the "chinese look" is overrepresented in Thailand."
That's true ALONG WITH the fact that those of actual Chinese descent are still overrepresented.
"I find it funny how people don't mislabel Koreans as chinese yet what makes you think its okay to mislabel a native thai as chinese? its insulting and offensive tbh."
Your presumptuousness is funnier. I'll say it again: Chinese is an ethnicity too. In the same way that you can be born and raised in China while being ethnically Tai, you can be born in raised in Thailand with several generations there and be ethnically Chinese. Also, I don't know if you've been outside of Asia yet or if you really live here, but people mislabel all Asians' nationalities all the time. To think that Koreans go out of Asia and never get mistaken as Chinese and vice versa is hilarious.
"Toptap is MIXED chinese. He is from Nan province after all. Pure ethnic chinese in bangkok are rare even. You incorrectly labeling him a chinese person from the start shows your nationalistic tendencies tbh."
Just because one is of Chinese descent....doesn't mean that person can't be of another ethnic descent, too. I did not incorrectly label him. You presumptuously misunderstood (again).
"Bottom line: mixed whites >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> pale mixed chinese >> pale skin native thai >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> dark skin mixed chinese >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> dark skin native thai >>>>>>>> half black"
I never disagreed that this hierarchy existed. I just pointed out the higher frequency those of Chinese descent as opposed to those of mixed western. Of course you could say that because those of Chinese descent make up a greater portion of the population than the mixed-westerners, that's why they're overrepresented, but still...they're not a majority or even half the population. So, when one looks at Thai TV from the outside, one gets the impression that most people look Chinese....not mixed-western
Definitely agree about the lack of acting skills. I guess that's kinda true about the white privilege thing, but…
Thai Chinese dominate the Thai entertainment industry in front of and behind the camera. They're definitely much more overrepresented than the mixed white people in spite of the fact those mixed people often do garner a lot of fame quickly because of their appearance. There are also countless shows in which Thai Chinese take leading roles.
TopTap, in spite of having been born in Nan, is indeed of Chinese descent. He's said it himself and he has name 邱常誉 on his IG too. Also, "all the Chinese people live in Bangkok"? No. MOST of them do. Not all.
I live in China and have been to Thailand several times which is partially why I responded in the first place. I've been there and seen it firsthand.
Bottom line: Chinese are way more overrepresented throughout Thai media.
I think we can both agree that we'd like to see the playing field evened out in this respect though...
Sorry but Bright can not act at all. White privilege in Southeast Asian countries can land you a lead role in…
Definitely agree about the lack of acting skills. I guess that's kinda true about the white privilege thing, but if any ethnicity is over-privileged when it comes to the entertainment industry in Thailand, it's the Chinese. A disproportionate number of the actors, even in BLs are of Chinese descent. Even in this BL, Win, TopTap, and Green are of Chinese descent. Bright on the other hand is actually half ethnically Thai, quarter white, and a quarter Chinese.
Aside from the almost repulsive storyline that was Kengkla/Techno and Can's response to Tin, I really enjoyed this series. Ae and Pete as a couple set really good examples. Pete's very soft-spoken and a little sensitive and Ae is as thoughtful of a person as we can hope for. It's refreshing to see a 'top' in a BL who has a decent level of restraint over his own actions and feelings who knows how to channel his aggression (and horniness) properly. I also enjoyed Pond's character because I was constantly shifting between loving him and hating him. He's like the Loki of the LBC universe.
If I didn't know that this series was getting a second season, the bitterness I felt from Can's decision would have brought the rating lower for me. Speaking of ratings, mine gets lowered because given Tar's part of the story and how jarring that was, I don't know how on earth Kengkla/Techno is expected to be readily accepted by the audience. That whole thing is extremely jarring and very upsetting to watch.
It was definitely worth the watch, though. Ae and Pete are love and Tin/Can's build up is really entertaining.
Thank you for this. Everything makes a lot more sense now.
Another question though: are Tum and Tar supposed to be in a pseudo-romantic relationship? They're brothers, but both in this series and in TharnType, their relationship seems very romantic and if I remember correctly, Type makes some sort of comment to Tum to the effect of "you're in love with your own brother" (this comment was made in LBC btw, not TharnType)
Another review of '2gether' pops up on the main page and once again I'm back to check the latest score for the…
I'm really excited for the next 5-episode installment because I imagine it was already at least mostly filmed before they were able to see the fans backlash toward the series itself. I'm curious to see if they'll offer more substance the couple and if this will be the yummy icing on a not-so-good cake.
I'll even stick around for season 2 just to see how much they did actually take the reaction to first season into account. You're right about it really being a part of the zeitgeist though. That high five will live on in infamy! My BL watcher friends and I even joke around with the name calling it 2Roomates or 2Classmates. LOL The series is as fun to diss as it is to love.
