I still can’t figure out the ML, Haoming. RHETORICAL: What’s his angle, end goal? (NOT asking for spoilers.…
This is just a guess from my perspective. I'm probably wrong because I play with characters all the time :-).
Hao Ming wants to be in control. It looks like his parents controlled him most of his life--he has no say in the office, even though he is the heir to the corporation. His father doesn't listen to his opinion, even though we know he is an excellent researcher (from his background checks of everyone). His mother won't even let him buy his own house--he is a man in his thirties (He was 18 when he had the son and the son is, what, early teens?). Speaking of the son, he couldn't even acknowledge him as one probably because his parents didn't allow it.
So, to ME, Hao Ming wants someone he could shape for his own. Our FL, Xu Yan, appears to be someone he could control because she 1) wants love 2) has a poor background 3) doesn't have a Dragon mother. MAYBE he didn't account for the Big Lie she would tell his mother because that one came out of nowhere during the meet-up but he went along with it because it kind of turned him on to see her going all out for him--hiring actors for parents, making up the whole thing just to get HIM. He likes that kind of attention and he continues to shape her, giving her the success she craves.
However, such secrets--hers and his--couldn't just be under cover for long. I think he did try to save the situation but you know, we need DRAMA, heh. Things would get out of HIS control and that's when the real emotions start showing. That's for a later analyses.
