I disagree. He nailed it in the first scene when he played cool cat to her breezy visitor during the agave scene. Then he pulled her in for an interview and made the chase over dinner. He had his eye on her all along and was making slow moves because he wanted her to think he fell in love with her. He should show his real face soon. So, thus far, William Chan the actor is playing HaoMing as written quite well.

It is very good so far--the script is tight with hardly any room to "breathe" as the web of lies get tighter. William Chan is in his element here, playing along, watching, manipulating. I'm sure he'll be given more screen time as his secrets are unveiled.

He has his own agenda. The way he had researched her already before she even showed up already clued us in that he had been pulling him slowly into his world. The fact that he already had someone in her work place keeping tabs and initially refused all interviews--he'd known all along she would finally come to see him to get his interview. Basically, he was shaping his human aguave into his world because he...well...we'll have to see why.
