I've now watched all 8 versions. My favorites were the Zhang Yun Tao version and the Zeng Hui version. Rest were…
I find it interesting to compare the novel to what actually ends up in each of the dramas.
Most of the dramas just included scenes from the first half of the novel (still a lot of crazy in the latter portion of the novel). However, for the most part, scenes and dialogue from the various versions can be traced back to the novel.
The Zeng Hui version seemed to vary the most from the novel as it included scenes that weren't in the novel (for example, ML's aunt trying to kidnap the FL to send her abroad never happened - in the novel, the aunt started out initially opposed to the FL but after a conversation with the ML she became Team FL all the way) or used dialogue from the novel but changed the locations or timeline (for example, how the SML found out about the FL/ML being together).
It will be interesting to see if this novel is ultimately made into a longer network drama.

I've now watched all 8 versions. My favorites were the Zhang Yun Tao version and the Zeng Hui version. Rest were just OK. I've also read the novel that this drama was based on (used Google translate - for the most part the translated novel was very readable - pronouns were messed up as were the colloquialisms).
The novel is from the same author (Niao Song Mi) who wrote the "Prince Too Wild" novel. I'm almost done reading that novel. The Prince Too Wild dramas only covers about the first half of the novel (novel has 247 chapters) - lots of crazy that didn't make it into the drama. I plan to read the Shen Qing You Yin novel next. But given the discussion on the open ending to the drama, I didn't want to waste my time either watching the drama or reading the novel. But the novel has a happy ending (which given its from the same author as Prince Too Wild, I would have been shocked with any other ending). Shen Qing You Yin is even longer than Prince Too Wild as it has almost 300 chapters.

FL's mother reminds me of the ML's mother in Healer as he was also abandoned by his mother when she remarried. When Healer's grandmother died he ended up in juvenile. His father's friend took him in when he got out of juvenile but abandoned him when he came of age. Healer however never held his horrible mother accountable for being a horrible mother. The drama even included a scene where Healer's mother brought him a winter coat - of course, she gave it to him at the park cause I guess Healer wasn't welcome at her home. At least the FL in The First Frost is (so far as of Episode 15) holding the mother accountable for her actions of abandoning her child. I thought Healer's mother was horrible and so is the FL's mother in TFF. Neither deserve the title of mother. Both mother's had a child with their new husband's and neither Healer or the TFF FL find out about their half sibling for years.
Some excellent short web dramasThousands of Years of LoveProvoke (all by director Zeng Qing Jie are good)A Familiar…

Also, its a 2014 drama but one of my all time favorites is Healer.

Yes, Zeng Hui was in one version of Prince Too Wild. In addition to this version, I also really liked the version with Zhang Yun Tao.
I have become addicted to vertical drama!
Ooops - Han Yu Tong was in Prince of Beijing with Zeng Hui. FL in Prince Too Wild with Zeng Hui was Deng Ling Shu.

The Zhang Yun Tao version seems to follow the first half of the novel pretty closely.
