Too early to say this but I'm not impressed by the cast acting skills, Kim Bum is the only one standing out.
Wow - so I'm aggressive because I disagree with your extremely inaccurate & demeaning comment? Hey, if you are going to say things like that, be ready to suffer the consequences, honey.
The story is so good, but the acting was bad. I think the could have find a better lead actor. Nam Kyu Man was…
He did a really wonderful job in this - yes he did have deep, emotional scenes that are difficult - AND he pulled them off pretty much effortlessly. And I beg to ask what shows on Western TV do you think are so much better than Misaeng, say? Or Coffee Prince (superb for it's genre)? Or the currently airing Signal? Or the lush sageuks like Empress Ki? Cause KDramas all manage to pass the Bechdal test, have balanced (in terms of sex & age) casts, a load of experienced actors (a la BBC - that repetory theater-like group of veteran actors constantly seen in everything), and writers who understand that people don't live in vacuums - they have FAMILIES. Plus they realize emotional relationships and attachments are NOT restricted to possible love interests. The love stories all have some depth as well. I mean, I think Game of Thrones is excellent and stuff like Boardwalk Empire, Walking Dead and House of Cards are well-written & procuced. But you know what? They are DEPRESSING. I personally am TIRED of getting depressed from watching TV shows. It IS possible to have uplifting stories, ones with happy endings, that are FABULOUS TV. Shakespeare knew this (ok, about theater, not TV LOL). Tragedies & comedies had the same weight in the Elizabethan time. Even a true tragedy (This show is one of those) is NOT depressing, because the ending is cathartic. So the idea that to be a truly deep and meaningful film/drama it has to be depressing? SO false and overdone!

I'm sorry - you really have to justify statements like that. Yoo Seung Ho is one of the best young actors in the business - he made this part VERY believable despite the illogic foisted on him by the scriptwriters. I've watched a lot of Korean films myself and I simply do not agree with you. Now, Ji Chang Wook can act - that's a fact. Kim Soo Hyun has done some good stuff - but he's very much riding on the popularity wave of a DRAMA (MLFAS). Jung Kyung Ho? He's ok but I can think of a LOT of better actors.
The quality of acting in Kdramas sure beats the quality of acting in most WESTERN TV shows, that's for sure.
If only they hadn't decided to do the early onset Alzheimer's, this would have been a really perfect thriller. I still loved it but I had to sort of tune out all references to that. The depiction of the progression of that disease especially was pure fiction... Still I loved how this ended, all things considered!
All in the eye of the beholder...like every kdrama ever watched by a kdrama addict!!!!! I loved it. Yeah there…
I watched until the engagement party (38 episodes? Something like that) & then heard rumors so skipped to the end. Honey, there WAS NO RESOLUTION!!!!! NONE! Which be why I will just leave it. My only regret - there was a little secondary story that looked promising which I missed. But that's ok - there are plenty other dramas out there.
This is sooooo goood so far! I'm so happy Park Shi Hoo is back, & Lee Soo Hyuk is just fine in this as well :D LOVE it & hope the rest keeps pace with the 1st 2 episodes!
I can't believe Taek is the husband. I'm still in denial. lol I'm convinced that the writer changed it at the…
Those are the kind of hints these writers used in ALL of the shows. More importantly, the character study of Deok Sun was very important - the fact that she had a great deal of trouble determining the difference between simply reacting to others' desires vs acting on her OWN - or even knowing WHAT she wanted, was a huge elephant in the room here. THAT was the strongest hint of all in fact.
Nooooooope. the ending was not for me.
Season 2 will forever remain my favorite reply season after all.
Fine - then explain why you think the drama that the producers screwed with at the end is somehow the best of the three. Convince me that at least you have some rationale - I don't have to agree with an opinion to find it reasonable.

Because that's what critics actually do - I spent my CAREER evaluating the strength/weakness of various opinions. They are NOT all equal. I'm soooo sorry, but it really looks like all you are doing with these very well written and nuanced dramas is judging them on whether YOUR particular ship sailed - that is SHALLOW.

I posted what I inferred from the comment - that person posted a shallow opinion. Not an insult of the person, rather of the opinion...the lack of thought involved.

They are not 'fan theories'. The writers confirmed it. Period.
The hints about Taek are very subtle & continuous thruout this show - WhiteLilly did a good job listing them. Deok Sun had a great deal of trouble deciding WHAT she wanted - she let others dictate that thruout most of her teens as was shown repeatedly. If she thought a guy liked her, she'd like him back.
But thruout all of that, she was always there for Taek, always had him in her mind. Even when she thought Jung Hwan was really confessing to her (which he may have been - unclear) she kept looking towards the door for Taek. So no, not rushed, just hidden.

I'm a retired English teacher - literary criticism was my career. AND I write. It IS something to get angry about, because such shallow expectations are what makes it so difficult for decent, talented writers and other creative artists to be heard, and for the general public to see quality television & film. I don't mind mindless entertainment that's produced well, & contains a logical storyline. But when I see a really interesting, touching storyline, truly exploring character's relationships & emotional development (the Answer Me series) destroyed by greedy idiotic higher-ups simply for a slight boost in ratings, it DOES infuriate me. And that is exactly what happened with Answer Me 1994. Thankfully the other 2 in the series avoided that.
Just finished watching.... I gave 1/10 to reply 1994 only because of the ending, I wanted different ending here…
Okay, I guess I need to go back to sleep :( TOTALLY misread your comment LOL I do agree about 1994 (although still, I'd give it higher than a 1 cause it was a wonderful drama until about episode 12 (which I guess is where that bad decision was made to ignore the writers).
I've started Vikings - now THAT'S really good!
