Title Are You Human? Spoiler
We Japanese have some films and even doramas with this sort of plot, it's more about a fantasy plot than a sci-fi…
You are simply incapable of having any kind of reasonable discourse. What in the world do you have against me other than I disagree with you, I explain WHY I disagree, and I'm both very well-educated and willing and able to write coherent responses? What in the world makes you feel sorry for me from what I wrote? I spent many years in school (graduate literature courses in a couple languages in fact) learning to write well and to make cohesive arguments and counter arguments.
I'm sorry that you obviously didn't.
I don't believe you read any of my comments period, dear. Have fun with your life.
But you might think of learning to back up your opinions...

Well, when will he remember that his ex is dead ? I think it is going to be one of the next revelations, otherwise…
Ok, did we SEE that in this version? I'm getting hazy on stuff LOL

Title Are You Human? Spoiler
Tbh I just decided to not think about anything or question the whole human falling in love with a robot and vice…
Aika - do you really not understand the whole concept of science fiction? It is speculation on what is POSSIBLE. In other words, NO we do not right this minute have androids like Shin III. However it is highly likely that in the near future we will have them. Your notions of a 'soul' are going to be highly challenged once we get sentient machines (which is again very possible indeed). I expect meeting sentient aliens (another distinct possibility) will throw you into a tizzy as well.
But my point is that there is a huge gulf between science fiction, which is based on the possible - on things that are scientifically plausible, in other words - and fantasy.
SF is not fantasy. Fantasy involves impossible things happening - supernatural explanations (werewolves & vampires, for instance) - things outside the realm of physics. Even things that might have some truth to them (like ghosts, or reincarnation) are treated in a very fantastical manner.
Huge difference.
How very patronizing of you to tell someone with several higher degrees in literature, who specializes in legends and myths, what the difference between fiction and reality might be. I doubt you have a clue. The fact that you seem to believe that there's no difference between, say, a novel like Dracula and one like Frankenstein (based on your inability to recognize how very close we are to developing humanoid robots who have independent cognitive ability) shows that YOU do not understand fiction in the least.
Fiction simply means that xyz didn't happen. There are many many fictional accounts that are COMPLETELY plausible and which could occur. Others that are plausible speculations about the future. Others that are accurate, factual reconstructions of the past only using a fictional story. All of those types of fiction are very realistic. Then there's fantasy, which can run the gamut from things like romcoms (which include this drama) where the interactions of the humans in the story are not very realistic - all the way to things like Scholar Who Walks the Night (vampires, history turned inside out, not much that's based on reality there at all).
The ROBOTICS in this drama are in fact based on actual science, and there is nothing particularly fanciful about portraying an android such as Shin III, in the future - NEAR future. As near as 2050. That's not fantasy. It certainly isn't possible NOW but that hardly makes the idea 'fantasy'.
Plus what in the world do you mean, 'mere fantasy'? Heavens. Do you not understand that even the most outlandish, unscientific, supernatural story has to be based mainly on our real life experience of people in order to maintain that willing suspension of disbelief? It beggars the reason to hear such statements. People complain about the writing in many dramas simply BECAUSE something about that story has made the watcher disconnect from it, has made them stop believing in that fictional world.
I put my money on what you really can't deal with is the idea that an android, a sentience that (scientists hope) creates itself using a machine interface designed by people, could ever have the complexity of a human, including feelings. This may or may not happen - it will be hard for anyone to differentiate, and that is why there are so many SF treatments (in books, TV, film) about this very subject.
It makes you uncomfortable to think that there ever could be an android that might feel.
Ok.
But understand that scientists are working on that very concept right now, and the science of robotics is not fantasy.

There’s no such robot out there that is like Nam Shin III, we still have a LONG way to go before we reach something…
What's 'a long way away' I wonder? 10 years? 20 years? 50 years? Within 100 for sure.
This is SF - we don't actually have this level of androids. Yet. But we've got robots - a lot of them. And they are getting progressively smarter and more interactive.

The Robin Williams film (Bicenttenial Man) is not 'cute'. Good grief. I guess you completely missed the point of THAT film, didn't you? It's the same as the Star Trek Next Generation episode 'Measure of a Man' - ie what does it mean to be 'human' - does sentience let one become a person? This is a question we are definitely going to have to deal with soon (easily within 100 years or less) given the state of robotics and computer development. Sheesh.

im sorry, but i am trying SOOOO hard to be open-minded with this show, but it's just way too strange imo being…
Oh, dear. Whatever will you do if you are around when robotics companies finally do develop AIs that are sentient? Because it's happening a lot sooner than you think. Lots of money is being poured into companies making humanoid robots with facial recognition and the ability to mimic as well as recognize human emotions. Also another ton of money is being spent on developing '5th gen' computers that can learn on their own. Computers that are 'sentient'. Put those 2 together and you've got an android that looks human and is sentient. So what is your problem????

???? People - can you not tell the difference between pure fantasy (ie LOTR) and good science fiction based on REAL POSSIBILITIES? This is NOT UNREALISTIC - it is speculative fiction set in the near future based on technology we actually have or are developing as we speak. Makes me wonder whatever will you do in 10 or 20 years when there really ARE Artificial Intelligence androids available? Sheesh. Not only is this highly possible but there's lots of money invested into making AIs a reality.
A self-determining AI capable of learning could definitely develop the ability to have preferences (that's feelings BTW). NOT out of the question whatsoever.

It's not exactly 'pure fiction'. Robotics is making huge strides, and so is computer engineering (sentient machines that can learn and develop on their own). Real androids are not that far off, and as I've said before, Nam Shin III is an ANDROID - a sentient robot who learns and develops rather than depends on exterior programming. There are already several works of fiction (including films & TV shows) that deal with what to do about non-human sentient beings like AIs - laws of robotics, grant them rights if self-determining, etc etc.

Oh, I'll just take Jiro, thanks LOL Although this one is looking very fine indeed too LOL The Japanese robotics guys keep making FEMALE robots - I'm waiting for the guys. How handy that would be (even leaving out the whole sexbot thing LOL)!

I guess. I found this drama fascinating, but there are dramas where it's too real and that makes it unlikable for me (mainly American dramas like Breaking Bad)

It's ok, not bad. But, why does it feel like every other law drama?
Who knows why you think that? It's radically DIFFERENT from most law dramas, in fact.

No one knows why, including obviously you. This was an extremely good drama that gave us real issues and the most believable court cases I've seen in a Kdrama. I guess realism just bores you to tears LOL

I just finished watching this complete drama. It will go down as a favorite. Mainly because of quality of acting…
I'd have upvoted your answer except for your unsupported criticism of Go Ara. She did very well indeed in this drama, exactly what the part required.

Yep - sorry, but it IS a mystery - we aren't as the audience quite sure until the latest episode what exactly went on - why this happened, etc. No matter how blase, sophisticated, know it all you make yourself to be, this is NOT something that was clearly spelled out. We STILL do not know (AS you point out) who this kidnapper was & whether she is connected to the family or not. Maybe she wasn't - that HAPPENS, you know.
But just pretending there was not actually something mysterious going on behind the scenes in this family is being obtuse.

Of course there was a story!!!! Very much so. What in the world do you think the definition of 'story' is? This one has had a very well defined story-line, including a mystery to be cleared up. Sheesh

This is just such a cute, funny, more or less angst free drama! Still has some deep feels but no one is horrible which is nice. And it's just so clever and witty :D Lord, with the world the way it is WHY do people byotch and moan when things are nice? Especially realistically or humorously pleasant instead of cotton candy?
So glad these kinds of dramas exist - on reason I watch KDramas.
