He already told her that in the rain scene!!!
No he did not. He did not tell her he loved her now or that he wanted to be with her in this life. He was clearing up the 20 year late misunderstanding involving QZZ. Can't you see that even after that, they talk about future plans apart from each other? They still talk about separating.

And this is from the novel but there is a confession scene for this life too.

Many people say that they are tired of LR's indecision. She's not being indecisive at the moment. She's trying to work through everything. Do we realise that PWX has not yet confessed to liking her in this life? His confession was about their pasts. In this life, they have basically reconciled, but still plan on separating later. He has not yet told her how he feels about her now and how he wants to stay with her, so there is nothing for her to decide.
Also, when it gets to that point, LR's issue is not indecision, but fear and confusion, but mostly mostly fear. We have to, at this point, be able to somewhat put together how life in the palace is. Her father and mother loved and doted on her from when she was born until shit hit the fan. Her parents used to be in love with each other until he ascended the throne and the Shangguan family and other aristocratic families started pressuring him and going against him. His wife now became the symbol of those aristocratic families, and as we can see, she lives for her clan. So now that the emperor and empress are basically estranged, the emperor does not want to lose against the noble families, so he is against LiChuan, LR and their mother. The empress lives for her family, so she will even sacrifice LR for LC because he is more important in the grand scheme of things. The emperor that used to love his daughter is willing to kill her or marry her to a far land in order to not give the Shangguan family more power through a beneficial marriage with her. Then he turned all his "love" and attention to Consort Rou and her children. It is no secret that he wants Prince Su, Consort Rou's son as crown prince.

If you grew up like this, would you be willing to entrust someone with your life and heart? Love is a weakness that she does not even believe lasts forever. For her safety, she has to stay strong and protect herself.

Same, I see some commenters sympathising with him and saying that he's not that bad, but there's something about…
He was not that bad in like the first 5 episodes, then started getting annoying from the time they went to Tuoban Yan's mansion, but even then, it was understandable. But then it got worse lol. You can tell that he is not just pinning for her, he's also plotting.

Sad but true. Major life events change people, for better or worse. Before the Su family annihilation and SRQ's…
She was pleading for his family. I can't really remember the details though. His family was somewhat unjustly annihilated and they are a century old aristocratic family that stayed neutral in politics. I believe they were wiped out after QZZ died. Also remember that in their past lives, LR was on the side of the aristocratic families. To wipe out such a powerful and good family for no good reason was terrible. In the novel, the Su clan stayed neutral in politics, but they were very benevolent.

I did. I recommend you read it too. It is very insightful. The production can only do so much with the 40 episode and 45 minute limits, so you will not get the exactness of the situations. Even so, just watching the show, you have to really pay attention to every word said and every look because they are doing their best to communicate everything within their limitations.

But reading the novel is so much fun lol. It is a masterclass in character complexity and evolution.

She may have done so, but she was always attracted to PWX. She chose him because of his looks in the first life and liked him from the moment they met at their wedding. Although she met SRQ first (they met when he was 12), she did not have a crush on him, but she had respect for him. He started going to court at 12 with his father or grandfather (can't remember).

I hope everyone remembers that according to the situation, LR and PWX have deduced that SRQ did what he did as revenge for his massacred family. So even though LR has questions about him killing her, she accepts that he had his reasons because it makes sense.
Most importantly, this SRQ is innocent. And just like she, Shangguan Ya, PWX and Li Chuan, the tragedies that caused them to change drastically have not yet happened. So as long as she can prevent the Su clan annihilation, SRQ will be fine.

We are the ones that suspect he came back too and with a plan because we have the vantage point of being the audience.

She does need to repent a lot, not just concerning PWX, but also some of the other people in her life. She was…
I was only defending the part where she actually did him wrong. I also said that I agree with you that it really does not mean that they have to get back together even at all, not to talk of getting together quickly. She wronged him, he wronged her. On some level, they have apologised about it. If they want to go their separate ways, that's perfectly okay. If they want to stay together, they better learn from the past, and they are doing that in whatever kind of relationship they have now.

She does need to repent a lot, not just concerning PWX, but also some of the other people in her life. She was…
She did not need to wait around for him. She just needed to be patient with and understand him. They were a married couple, not partners in a fling. You work for and put in effort for anything you want to last.

LR did not let herself enjoy emotions and feelings. She did not like choosing paths that showed too much difficulty. That is why she persuaded her brother to give in to the demands of the Shangguan family and marry Shangguan Ya and 4 other nobel family daughters. But it led to him being brought down and imprisoned by his father, etc. Because of the things she saw in the palace, in the harem, she held back.

Pwx like he said, did not know what love was, but he knew loyalty from watching his father. So when they told him most of his life that QZZ and he were a couple and he had to be good to her and protect her, he took it seriously. Do you not think that someone like this deserved the chance to sort out his feelings after being thrown into an arranged marriage he hd no choice in? The emperor got portraits of four men nd told LR to choose, after which the marriage was granted to the family of the person she chose. That was basically when he found out and when he saw her first was at their wedding. If you had the person you thought you would be with forever got her engagement with you broken, and then you got arranged to marry someone else, in the space of a few months, would you not need time to clear your feelings? They were married for less than a year, I think it was 6 months or so, before shit hit the fan.
They both have complex stories that formed their foundation and they both should have worked through it slowly. He shouldn't have agreed with her so rashly and then really separate, and she should not have been so harsh and impatient with him. That is not how it works to maintain relationships. Without reading the novel, I never agreed with some of her arrogant statements because they did not communicate compromise or understanding. It was her way or the highway and that is not women empowerment or something I would respect her for.
Btw, I am obviously focusing more on her flaws here because she is the subject like you said.

I put them in to make an overall point. And I do not agree either that she has to get together with him in this life just because she wronged him too in their past life. But she and we have to admit that she had a big part to play in their break. And if they get together, even now that they are acting as besties, she has to change some of those things.

Anyway, because of her pride and her impatience (this is only addressing her side by the way), among other things that include her upbringing, she wronged him in that aspect. Like, I said, she knew that he had feelings for her, because like she said, he was just too good to her. But she just did not like the idea of competing with another person, so she made up her mind and pushed him away (again, only addressing her side here). If they had talked then, like they do now, it would not have been this way. Pwx needed to clear things up, but she also needed to give him a chance, be patient and take him seriously.
An example can be seen in ep 11. After Pwx confessed how he felt to her and called her out too, because he did not do what she wanted, she called him a jerk and left without him. The exact thing she did in the past. LR being selfish meant that she wanted to be pleased and coaxed and was very used to receiving everything, but was not interested in being the one giving and coaxing. That is something she had to actively start learning till the very last chapter, the bonus chapter of the book. The only thing that made this time different was that she remembered their past and decided to make a different choice. This is a huge change.

If anyone is still in doubt about whether LR still loves SRQ in this life, they should just see the umbrella scene…
She does not and never loved SRQ, even he knows this. As the drama goes on, you will find out many things that point to how the one she cared about and was affected by the most was PWX in her past life. That incense that she made, it was PWX that thought her. She insisted to learn and learnt it through very numerous trials and error in the past and used it for 20 years because it reminded her of him. That is just one example.
It is impossible for you to be completely unaffected by someone you spent so much time with intimately or otherwise, in such close quarters for 17 good years. See how she felt at the end of her life, thinking that PWX killed her. See how she reacted. See how she treated him when they came back, in the first two episodes, when she thought he killed her. She bullied him, hated him, but was drawn to him. She still acted considerately towards him. And this was someone she was estranged from for almost 20 years. Their marriage crashed when they hadn't even spent up to a year together, but still. And I didn't talk about PWX to say how much she loved him, that's a different story. It was to talk about how much of an impact he had on her life even in a short time, that she has not fully recovered. So we cannot expect her to act completely detached from SRQ so quickly even though she suspects him. We can't expect her to forget everything that is similar to their past.

i see this brought up a lot so... i don't see what li rong needs to repent in regards to pei wenxuan for the past…
She does need to repent a lot, not just concerning PWX, but also some of the other people in her life. She was too selfish, and like PWX said to her in ep 11, once she made up her mind about something, that was how it was supposed to be. So she made up her mind that PWX loved both her and QZZ and that it was not worth it to wait for him and she didn't want to compete with a dead person (which means she would linger on in his heart), and as a Princess, it was below her to do that, so she alienated him, even when he tried to speak to her after that, she pushed him away. She did not give him much of a chance after that because she made up her mind. That was the same kind of thing she did with Chuan, SRP and Shangguan Ya in the past. She made up her mind that her way was right and forced Chuan to concede in his 5 marriages, then made up her mind that her way was right and saved SRQ and kept him in her house for 17 years (she should have left him to die with his family as he initially wanted to), made up her mind that protecting the aristocratic families and their interests was right and so stood against Chuan.

In fact, every one of these characters had the reasons they did what they did in the future (their past lives). Why they turned they way they did, seeing them so different now. They were not bad people, even sly SRQ has a logical explanation for why he is going down his path. LR was selfish, but she was trying to do what she thought was best politically. Personally, she was formed by her experiences growing up as the eldest princess, in that kind of situation in the palace. She was trying to protect herself too, but she went about the wrong way of doing it. These people made so many mistakes in the past, even if they were trying to protect what they loved or thought was important. So now that LR and PWX have the gift of another chance and foresight, they are trying to do better for themselves and everyone.

For the past three days, I have gone down the rabbit hole that is the novel. I just couldn't help myself lool. I'm really unrepentant. Anyway, I don't want to strangle anyone again except SRQ. I have become a hater, and this is not even really because of the book. He has been sly since I saw his face on screen. That self righteous lil ....
Anyway, I understand both leads. They truly were made by their upbringings and cemented by their choices. It's very sad, but they are also very funny together lol. It really is a nicely written story. It is not one of revenge, but redemption. And unlike other rebirth stories, I absolutely love how it is not only one person that was reborn (the two leads like we know and SRQ we suspect), how the leads found out about each other early on and how they work together to change things.

I'm not a pure "reading only for romance" reader so that's how. And you have to be ok with not having a likeable…
I agree on all points. From the bits of the novel I have read, I agree that the drama fl is not as cold as the novel fl. It feels like a good choice if they won't add chapter 170. I don't know how to explain it though.
Anyway, they probably did that to make her more acceptable by viewers. It's easier to read about a cold character than to see it in live action. It also feels like they also made it that way because of the 40 episode limit. They can't explore as much with that limit, so this is the best choice.

Honestly best to just not read that chapter at all. It's a better story without it.
I have to agree. The con outweighs the pro. But then putting in ch 171 after that was really good.
