HZ and YX are so cute in their dating phase. It is also really nice and funny how open they are to each other. HZ was telling YX that she read romance novels and made notes on how to date and asked him if he wanted to see her notes lmaooooooo.
I laughed when after the women told her not to bring up divorce, the next scene was YX telling her that was the way to go lol. A queen and her executioner.
Yao Zhi Ming is diabolical lmaoo. Sorry for all his victims, but some of the things he says crack me up.
I can't really say there is dark humor. It's just that some things he says and does, even though they are mean, make me laugh. One was him asking an employee if she was trying to make him play spot the difference lol.
It is actually quite obvious that MCH does not love that boy. But they have been together for 3 years, she's 29 and her mother will not keep quiet about marriage for longer than 3 seconds, so she thinks that marriage is the next step to take and everything is already in place. It also seems that she likes being with him because she is very nurturing and it is also a side effect of barely being in charge of her own life because of her mother. She is a pushover, a peacemaker, and so even though she loves and values her family ordinarily, she gives in to her mother's whims.
She has not properly learnt how to stand up for herself. That kindness also exists in firmness. That it is not disloyal or unfilial to have proper boundaries and insist on it. That it is not selfish to do things that are good for you. She is also very naive to think that that boy will work hard, like she is willing to, for their future and to make their marriage work. She is taking him at his word when he has shown no evidence of being able to do any of it. He keeps lying and apologising and she keeps forgiving him because she is trying to do her best so as not to have regrets, because it is the right thing to do. So she is really holding on to the relationship just because.
While the series was going extremely well, the incident in the 18th and 19th episodes of the series when Hua Jing,…
I think you are not seeing this through the lens of culture and time period, which is what the show is trying to portray. The entirety of this show is to tell a story of a girl that rose to prominence against all odds in that time. So many issues or things that seem illogical to us now, were the norm in that time, and they are all being highlighted.
For example, why would the emperor punish an ENTIRE clan because of one man in the court? And the reason is that he did not say what he liked and has remained honest and kept his integrity all his life? And in the end, the emperor said he, minister Hua was not an honest man. It does not make sense, but it made sense then.
In this same show, they show how young unmarried ladies were not allowed to be seen outside. They were meant to stay home and learn the ways of women. They expected them to be highly skilled and well educated, but they could not go to school like the boys. HZ had to be disguised as a page for years, to be able to follow her grandfather on his trips around the country. It ruined women's reputations to do anything against the grain, and to us it seems ridiculous, but it was the norm there. A woman could be killed to preserve the reputation of the family if she got raped, but the man would not have even a sand grain-like stain on his reputation.
The maids and even the concubines were taken as commodities in those times. Bought and sold as their masters wished. So Hua Jing wanted to leverage her privilege in her family to give her husband a thing he wanted. Because it was a family to family trade, no one had to know. It is not even like concubines were given wedding ceremonies in those times. The man could just sleep with her and then whatever. No need for anything elaborate, so no one needed to know. Also, if they did not make a big deal of things, people would just laugh it off or whatever. And Hua Jing's husband now looked down on her and her family because they had fallen from glory. So this was something he was confident in getting. After all, Furong is just an object.
The point is, it makes sense within the setting. The story is about familial relationships within that time. That is why they wrote a full big family with the branch families within that time. Something many historical dramas do not usually do.
I don't think KSH acting is evoke and profound in this drama that is worth nomination. But that my opinion and…
I do not see it that way. Even rom com characters have layers. That is why I said even for actors that usually play in one genre, their characters are different. They have different habits, looks, motivations, personalities. So even playing those characters is a test of skill. Let us take Park Min Young's roles over the years as an example. All the characters are different and she has had to wear the skins of those characters to play her roles perfectly. They have different personalities, different looks, different temperaments, stories and motivations. And she does a lot of preparation to step in to those roles. That requires a lot of skill too.
I don't think KSH acting is evoke and profound in this drama that is worth nomination. But that my opinion and…
I wanted to give quotes from what you wrote to show you, but it would have meant copying almost the whole comment. You said most actors show the same expressions in playing specific characters. You also said kdramas do not usually focus or demand high acting skills unless it is a complicated drama or role. You said the scripts for all those dramas and roles are the same and that they do not help in showing an actors skills. These statements involved the actors, writers and directors. Is that not the entire industry? Is anything above a compliment?
And I never made it about you insulting KSH. I started AND ended my response with the entire industry because that was my biggest issue. KSH's portrayal in this show was used as an EXAMPLE to buttress my point about the skills required to play even seemingly simple roles in romcoms that are usually looked down on. I never said anything about how you felt about KSH or his acting.
Tomorrow's episodes will mark the halfway point. I expect the show to take some kind of turn. I'm impressed that she's going to find out relatively early and from his own lips. We are very rarely blessed with the privilege of seeing things like this happen in dramas.
I don't think KSH acting is evoke and profound in this drama that is worth nomination. But that my opinion and…
You just insulted an entire industry because of your lack of understanding. If you use only one genre or one type of delivery to judge all actors in an industry, then you truly know nothing about what it means to be an actor and have a very limited mindset. Even if an actor plays only in one genre, the ability to perfectly portray different characters, written with different personalities and traits is difficult and shows range. In this show for example, KSH carries the biggest burden of playing different genres and having so many complex emotions and he is eating it up. His character does not even look like any of his previous ones. You have an opinion that is valid, but it's very limiting. Korean actors train for decades to hone their craft and deliver awesome performances and that is why they are widely loved. To say this is an insult to the entire industry.
I would actually do that to the FL in my opinion, she's too cold
The main issue was not that he got disrespected by her family, but that he got disrespected by her too. And no, she had not always been like that to him. In the first year of their marriage, they had a good relationship and you can't say that her family was nice to him in that time. You can even see the way her mother was at their wedding and how she treated his mother that was being polite and reasonable. After they lost their baby, she became cold and withdrawn. HW is someone that freely expresses himself and thrives in relationships where he can get good feedback from you, because he is already open. His biggest mistake during that period was moving out of their bedroom. The distance between them became too big because of it. If he hadn't, he could have gotten at least a glimpse of her struggling and he would have had something to hold onto and they could have come out of this earlier. But he was never able to see her vulnerability or care after that. HI put up walls all the time and acted like she did not care. We can't expect him to have known, He is not a mind reader. And if we say that, it permits bad behaviour because she got too comfortable thinking he would always be there for her even when she was constantly pushing him away. It shows too in how she said she wanted to spend time with him AFTER she had achieved her goals. Why not now? You have to put in effort to preserve love. Also, she disrespected him in front of others and that is a no. He is already of lower status than you and is your employee. Special treatment, in that you mind the way you speak to him even when he has done something wrong, or you are particularly infuriated, is warranted to prevent people from looking down on him and insulting him in his work place and outside. Lastly, she did not properly stand up for him and her family took that and ran with it. Once you show publicly that you do not respect your partner, you give others the courage to do the same.
BTW, I'm making a case for HW here, not excusing some of his past behaviours, but explaining why it got to that.
i just know it is not going to have a sad ending. but be prepared to cry yall~the screenwriter has also written…
It could actually have a sad ending. So far, fans expectations in the writing of the drama have been wrong lol. The writer did a good job writing twists. Plus this is TVN. They absolutely do not care about our feelings.
Good thinking and great efforts in sharing it. I find myself in agreement with you, I even went further in thoughts,…
Thank you. I also suspect he may have something to do with his mother's death, but I cannot think of why he would do that atm. I also suspect him from looking at the 3 main suspects, which are YX's dad, his step mom and the emperor. The expression on his dad's face after their conversation on Shaoyao staying somewhere else showed genuine concern. It was not blank or left to the imagination, it was a complete show of sincerity, which makes him less suspicious. I also suspect the emperor because who do we know of currently, that has the ability to hire skilled assassins and pay them hefty sums to keep constant watch on the Ling mansion and eliminate people that bring up the accident 10 years ago?
I have been thinking about the emperor, and I think I have made some headway in understanding his gameplay. The man, as has been said, is paranoid about losing his throne. He feels threatened by his brother. So I believe everything he does is to keep his family in check. Yanxi was adored by the former emperor and empress, and this is widely known by the people. So the former emperor could have even made Prince Ling (GYX's dad) next in line just so that YX could inherit the throne. The other thing is that him being so loved is a threat to his throne because the people may support YX instead of his own kids to take over. I believe that is another thing that infuriated him about Minister Hua saying the crown prince appointment is not a personal/family affair, but one that concerns the world and it should be treated as such. That'll mean that the people would decide who is best suited, and then in time, they may urge him to abdicate or handover power to the heir because he is old.
So this is how he is playing this game. YX was separated from his father at a young age, and for 10 years, to the farthest and most dangerous place. Before he was sent away, he was favoured by the current emperor who practically raised him. These prevented YX and his father from forming a good relationship or bond and sort of made sure that they would not be able to come together to conspire against him. Now .that YX is back, he keeps him in the palace and keeps favoring him in front of his father, thereby sealing the deal. YX instead of maybe dying (can't say he wanted him to die or not) in the north, grew to a very high rank in the army. So if he wants to rebel, it would be easy to do so with the military there, plus colluding with the neighbouring nation. That is why I believe he made him leave the north and ally himself to the emperor, while acting like he was trying to protect him.
As for his own sons, he uses YX to keep them in check. Gave him such an important position and keeps on praising him, while putting them down. So the person they have to either try to be like/better than, or fight is YX. He is their enemy
Gu Yanxi is working three jobs lol. So hardworking. A multitasking king. If his uncle knew what he was up to, he'd be rolling on his throne. They turned a respected prince into a servant lmaooo.
When grandma said she won't ask about his job or background, but what she wants to know is how he feels about her granddaughter, I laughed. I went, that's what you should be asking about lol.
