Something that has me really upset is how Deng Wei is getting insulted for his acting, and his character Jing, getting called Dull. It is okay to love the other characters much and root for them, but please do not insult the others, especially the actors. I believe Jing is a kind and gentle person and DW is pulling it off really well. He also has a very different personality from all the other Mls. CX went through enough when he was young that made him decide that gaining power was the only way to protect his loved ones and to survive, and he is willing to do anything to achieve his goals. XL because of his life and responsibilities has to be so tough and guarded. The freest he's ever been is as FFB, and there is nothing he can do about it. CX and XL therefore have strong auras and characters, meanwhile, Jing is more sublime. He has the power and ability and has gone through suffering, but chose differently from the others and that does not make him any less of a man.
Each actor is delivering what their characters are supposed to, and each character has the right to make their decisions on how they want to live their lives. They all have their priorities and are willing to fight to achieve their dreams and goals and if you really look at it, they each get the things they wanted by making painful sacrifices.

I believe she did not say the ending "WOULD" be different, but "MAY/COULD" be different. The problem here is that although she has a connection with XL, he cannot give her the very things she needs in a lifelong partner. Even if XL confesses today, the only thing that would change would be awareness of feelings, leading to more problems and regrets. XL still cannot leave the army to be with XY forever, and still cannot satisfy her needs and desires, and these are problems a confession will not change. So there can only be a probability of a different ending because of the introduction of a possible different choice.

And it would not last as long as his priority was not her. In LLTG, when Ling Buyi put his responsibility for his clan, for the throne, and to make sure her and her family were not implicated, she broke up with him. He knew how she felt because of the way she grew up, but he still abandoned her, so she left him too. Fortunately for him, he went through a period of 5 years of introspection and regret, where he decided that he would have chosen differently, and came back in time to get another shot after a number of events (she still did not want him after he came back). But in this show, the ship for XL has sailed and every time he has considered it, he has not chosen her. Plus the other events yet to happen, it would still not end well for them.

As for XL's ending, I have made my peace with him dying in the novel, especially because it was in a way that was honourable for him as a soldier and all. My problem will be with what he did before he died. If they keep that potbellied doll scene, I'll weep. I can't take it. He removed the memories from her mirror, then made the potbellied doll and made it impossible to open for her to see the precious thing inside, effectively erasing himself from her life. XL gives me Ling Buyi in LLTG vibes. Both wonderful generals with heavy responsibilities. Both willing to take care of the women they love and their loved ones from afar, just because of them, even if they could not have them.

Thank you so much. This is a good explanation. It is fine for people to have their preferred ship, but the way some go about it is in throwing rude comments and insults. And from what I see on twitter, it's the XL -XY shippers that want to mud everybody and it's annoying. Of all the men that XY loves (different kinds of love) and she could be with, Jing is the one that has figured out her love languages and is speaking them to her. He's also the only one in the position to be the life partner she desires. And these are very important. Love is simply not enough for a relationship. If two people are not able to give each other what they need in a relationship, it will break from strain. And I believe that letting her have a thing with Jing this early on in the story, even with XL around is to show a build up of their relationship and show that she is not "settling" for Jing because she "can't get" XL. Unfortunately for Fenglong, he is the only one she could "settle" with in this story because he likes her, but she does not reciprocate, and her obligation to CX's cause.

Another thing is that people are willing to get past XL's shortcomings as a person and partner, and even CX and XY herself (yes, she is not perfect as a partner. She is willing to sacrifice he relationship with any of the men, even if she has promised them, just for CX. Same type of thing XL is doing), but not as much for Jing, Like YangZi said, each character has their desires and motivations and responsibilities, and these fuel their actions. Whether you like an act or not, it is best to think from their perspective so that you can watch with better understanding and immersion.
Everyone wants to gain hold of the love they feel in that moment, in that time and possibly have it as theirs forever, but not everyone can do that. If it does not work out and you let it go (in many cases, it really might not be yours, even if it is all consuming at the time), you will find better, for you. Not one person is tied to the other. You can love again. (And yes, I am also speaking from experience).
