ok, but now you actually have to come back here after you're done and post an update, 'cause I wanna know how…
I have no idea but it's not only related to Theory of Love, it's a problem in 90% of the Thai bl/gay shows I watched, they seem to always bite off more than they can chew... leaving side stories botched and/or half of the cast completely discarded partway... some call it "cultural", they build excuses saying it's "their way of doing"... honestly, some habits should be reviewed.
Edit: I watched this season but I am stuck on Sotus S episode 6 since days, I don't think I'll complete it anytime soon. I am still unable to pinpoint everything i don't like (or don't enjoy, the correct word) in this series, it's a whole thing I guess. Too many little details that make the show lackluster in my eyes. At least I could see clearer in the editing game and give it an acceptable rating in comparison with the first time.

So good morning :D
Honestly, if it's the reason of the fiasco, I'd put all the blame on the movie producer and the casting manager. I don't see why they would cast an actor who can't fulfill the whole requirements of the script... moreover, from what I saw in the series, White didn't seem to be uncomfortable with Earth at all. I adored him in Love Sick (although I was 100% for the squid couple lol), yet I dared to think he had more chemistry with Earth than with Captain (it's not true but it's what it seemed like at the moment) so, whatever was the reason, it was probably an error of judgment from the crew.. because, even in the case where White couldn't portray the character as planned, it was their fault to cast him. As for Captain, I am still waiting for the 3rd season of Love Sick that will probably never happen. The spin-off of Earn/Pete story is even more unlikely to happen. I could only vent my spleen on Reminders' page :/
So I’ve been putting off watching this because I heard a lot of -ve comments regarding the ending. I see you…
LMAO. I will be right here waiting to read your feedback. I am curious, I want to know what you think about it. n.b. I like it when people rant, so don't hesitate XD
ok, but now you actually have to come back here after you're done and post an update, 'cause I wanna know how…
Sorry for the late reply, I fell asleep ^^
For me, the only good reason to drop a show is its story-line. I can stand everything (poor acting, ugly scenery, chaotic editing...) if the story-line is good and the development stable and constant in its quality I'd watch it despite it all, but if everything is great but the story-line/script is poorly written I'd probably end up dropping it at some point, and if by any miracle I watch it until the end, I'd get my revenge while rating it lol
Indeed. They should have written the script for Earth and White because the idea was good, the intrigue was interesting and they were popular actors (that doesn't have any importance to me but for them it would have been still profitable), but they just messed the whole thing up, I guess they wanted Gun to be the lead at all cost, he's a good actor, very talented, but an actor no matter how great he is, he can't save a disastrous script! I was happy despite myself after dropping it... happy that I didn't watch the whole thing for Aun/Two's sake because I'd have been disappointed to no end, considering the outcome :/
ok, but now you actually have to come back here after you're done and post an update, 'cause I wanna know how…
Yeah, I am rather open-minded because I know that I am a weirdo so I don't expect people to be like me or like the things I like lol
Same for me, MDL is the only site where I find, more or less, people who enjoy BL and Gay-themed shows so overtly and beautifully, there are less stereotypes and less killjoys; I like it so far :D
Together With Me was a bittersweet experience. I loved Korn (Max) but I shipped him with Mew, so the whole Korn/Knock ship... ended in the bottom of the abyss in my case lmao...
As for Theory of Love, I think I didn't complete the third episode before dropping it, I liked Gun in Love Love You and White in Love Sick 1 & 2, and I am keen on cinematography but as you say, the whole movies making theme left me rolling my eyes in a corner. I might have watched a few scenes from the next episodes because I was curious about Aun/Two (Earth and White) but, eventually, I was disappointed as well and ended up just dropping the whole thing and consoling my heart with Sun and Mork from Dark Blue Kiss lol
I know that the problem comes from me when I can't mention one good reason why I don't like a show, because, often, I have thousands and I am never stingy with critiques lol
So I’ve been putting off watching this because I heard a lot of -ve comments regarding the ending. I see you…
Yes, I watched all the Asian BL shows available and I like to give my opinion (especially when it's negative lol), and it's true that I am demanding, but I just want those budding filming industries to learn from their mistakes and improve the quality of their shows :D
As for Grey Rainbow, I'd say it's the whole package, and I am being sarcastic... Grey Rainbow is great and horrible at the same time. It's a great story, great cast, great film-set, great acting, great timing, ... and a horrible ending. The ending scene in itself isn't horrible, it's nothing that I'd call tragic or sad because the development of the story-line didn't foreshadow, at any moment, that the ending would be of that "kind"... it was so ridiculous and unexpected that the only adjective I could find at the moment was "stupid". It was stupid really, it was as if the ending scene was cut from another show and put there... It was obvious that the director wanted to "surprise" the audience with an unexpected denouement... I admit it, I like unexpected endings and, indeed, I was surprised, but it wasn't the ending scene that surprised me; the decision of the movie director and the screenwriter to end the series in such disastrous way was way more surprising! It's just like baking the most prestigious cake in the world and spreading tabasco sauce on it... what a fiasco!
I won't prattle more, what I mean is that the series is worth watching, really, you will love it if you do, there are very beautiful scenes in it and it isn't BL, it's purely gay with a very realistic intrigue, endearing characters, touching dialogues, handsome actors, consistent twists... the editing was very good as well.. but the last scene--the notorious ending--was stupid. If you keep that in mind, you can watch it, you will be less disappointed than we've been. I hope this helps :)
ok, but now you actually have to come back here after you're done and post an update, 'cause I wanna know how…
I understand and agree with you. There are shows that I adore but that other people can't stand at all, as well (I love Amphetamine, for me it was a masterpiece, but some people think that the movie was horrible... although I adore it, I understand that there's no accounting for taste). Let's just say that with Sotus it wasn't love at first sight for me, I remember I watched the first episode with a poker face before putting it on hold for two weeks and then came back to it, watched up to the 9th episode and dropped it because I couldn't stand it at all. It was just like spending time with someone who does everything to infuriate you, I had exactly that feeling, yet it was a show, not a person. I, in person, thought that I was exaggerating... my distaste grew stronger when I read the comments of the fans who liked it, I was downright pissed (or jealous because I couldn't enjoy it) lol
I did the same for Club Friday 5: The Secret of a Heart That Doesn't Exist.. I detested one of the leads (Winnie), and kept a very bad opinion of him for 5 years despite my appreciation for the mini-series, but I watched it again lately and I am loving it even more than before. Now I understand Win's behavior and think it was the other lead's fault (Boss)... because I went through something similar in my life, it helped me understand several story-lines that I couldn't before.
I don't always give another chance to a book or a show, I just do it when it's very popular and when I know that the problem comes from me lol
ok, but now you actually have to come back here after you're done and post an update, 'cause I wanna know how…
Why I detested it? It's hard to tell because I don't know it myself ... not the rational reason, at least. I have always had tones of good reasons to drop shows, but with this one it's was rather a matter of "compatibility". My brain didn't want to accept it, it was a data that my system didn't want to process... People have diverse allergies. Me? I was allergic to Sotus! And the most ironic about it? It's a BL series about engineering students, and I am gay and when Sotus was airing I was an engineering student too! Though, when I gave it the lowest rating I knew that I was being unfair, and knew that I had to comeback to it at some point to watch it with "new eyes", and that's what I am doing. It was inconceivable to me not to comeback to it since I loved every side of it separately... it was the mix that was hard to swallow!
Of course, I will return here in a few days to say what I think about it. I am already halfway through the first season :)
Sotus, I watched it. I waited weekly for it. I put it on hold. I returned to it. I dropped it. I rated it 3/10, and then 1/10. I detested it for years. I think I did everything to this series already... but I am coming back to it to give it a second chance. I do always give a show or a book another chance when it deserves it. Let's see how it turns out.
This is the third series I put on-hold in one week.... I don't feel like waiting for it every Friday anymore since the only reason why I was watching it is discarded and the level seriously dropped after the third episode. Not worth the little free time I have!
Watched it again (for the umpteenth time) and still my favorite Asian gay-themed series. I reread my comment of 2 years ago and I am still agreeing on everything I said back then... still waiting for the series that would surpass this one but, I think, it will take some more time for that series to come out.
People don't like realism, they like the shows that rub them the right way, and I hate it when reality is disguised just to please an audience... not surprising that this one is my top favorite.
I just re-watched it for the third time and I would have never imagined [the 1st time I did] that I'd end up understanding them so much, yet I do.
Some blame Wan, some blame Ohm, some others think Tar is naive... some think that Tar should be with Ohm, some others think that he deserves to be with someone new, some think he has to be with Wan and get rid of the third-wheel Ohm...
But I think it's more complicated than that. Once you are in their situation and living their struggles, reality becomes blurry and a decision hard to make.
All in all, I liked the ending. It's disturbing and that's, justly, the best side of it.
I agree with you. The 4th episode didn't please me as much as the others either. I am watching this drama mainly…
First of all: Shadowhunters. I read the novels before watching the series so I know how Alec Lightwood is supposed to behave. Matthew Daddario portrayed him perfectly. The awkwardness, as you say, was in the novels... he was a closeted gay who didn't give a damn about finding a partner (he was ready to marry a woman for the sake of his clan) and he was a virgin before Magnus, he did never really flirt with a guy before him (If we ignore Jace's case)... I think the way he played his character was very believable, intentional or not, it was what it was supposed to be. As for the character of Magnus, I have no words... Harry did an excellent job, his acting was exactly it.
When it comes to chemistry, it's there or it will never be. I will cite another popular couple, Stiles Stilinski and Derek Hale, I think the chemistry these two have, the "electric current" that seem to overflow between them, is far beyond what could be expected between two male characters (that aren't a match!!!). They don't have their fan-club for no reason. If actors portraying gay characters could have half of their chemistry, gay cinema would see new days!
Done with Western examples, I won't cite Bernard and Teddy again, one Asian couple than gives the best demonstration as to what I am talking about is Podd and Fluke (Sun and Mork from Dark Blue Kiss).. these two don't have to do much, just staring at each other, and you see the attraction... even when Mork plays it all nonchalant, it's there... that's what chemistry should be between two guys. You can't call it friendly or anything.. it's more than that and it's obvious.
I think I said it before, Green is my favorite character in 2gether and I am not even speaking of his personality, I am speaking about Gun, the actor. I agree with you, he is giving the best performance when it comes to acting. I watched most of his acting (from the times he acted in Tom Gay and Secret Love to the present) and I think the character of Green is one of his best performances along with Wan in Secret Love. I watch the series for him, clearly.
TharnType is not bad, I think it's in the top 5 of the Thai BL series made up to this day. Why? When we talk about the quality of a show, some people think about the acting and the consistency of the story-line... yet they aren't the most important. The most important is the constancy in the quality. The general quality of a show should be the same/stable from the first second of the show to the last... that's what every movie director I know repeats.. Thai shows that achieved this are Diary of Tootsies, Dark Blue Kiss, Sotus and TharnType. Dark Blue Kiss wasn't outstanding, but its quality was constant that's what makes it good. As for the acting in TharnType, I think Mew did a good job but he remained in his comfort zone, it was a role that wasn't new to him.. I want to see him in a different role someday to see if he is polyvalent or not.
The best acting performance in TharnType was achieved by Thanayong Wongtrakul (The actor who played Type's father) that man is a genius. He impressed me and left me speechless, and wondering: Why in the hell does he not get main roles? What a waste!
Cinematography is, of course, a matter of taste.. I loved shows that I know were very badly executed and detested others that were well done.. but when it comes to my ratings, I gave great ratings to shows I detested because they were technically irreproachable. The one thing I will never do is to give a great rating to a show just because the main leads are cute... I am gay, I know when a man is attractive, and when two men are in love, but if the acting is awful, I make it known!
Don't let this artist's talent go to waste. Give him main roles!!!!! I'd watch any show he plays in even if it's not translated. I can't resist the way he behaves in front of a camera!
Edit: I watched this season but I am stuck on Sotus S episode 6 since days, I don't think I'll complete it anytime soon.
