EP 9 kinda wish they kept their first kiss as in the novel... this feels too soon? But I love the new episodes!
i fully love the route to go romance-driven for the plot w/o losing the mystery. an amazing take for me! i lurveeet!! if not for ZLH i can settle for the mystery alone but w/him, they better go hard core with the romance. hahahaha
framing elements/techniques of this drama are so yummy... a feast to the eyes and to the over-all storytelling. i rewatched just to remember the shots and the scenes again. hahaha. call me crazy and obsessed. yes i am!
My only real critique is that I’m concerned with the way the male lead is portrayed. I don’t hate it cause…
ykw, im reading 2 translations rn, i noticed in one translation that the author was quite "in-love" with his/her ML (hahaha) if you know what i mean... however, this particular version has beautiful prose and the one you're referring to - the indifferent type. hehe. or maybe it's part of the creative freedom in the adaptation that they chose this characterization of the ML. it's nuanced but it still stayed true to the persona of the ML in the novel tho.
If anyone is curious if it deviates from the book. It does but not drastically. Some characters have more lines…
i looooove the part where they both prayed to his tablet. this was the part that was really creative for me; to an otherwise typical conversation meant to inform and discuss the details about this "marquis", the path that the drama took in using the "tablet" is surprisingly good. there's a few more, but this part stood out well. hehehe.
Guys, does the series follow the novel? Should I start reading it?
im reading it now and man, the adaptation is really good. whoever did this must do all other cdrama adaptations in c-ent. lol. well, if you don't mind the spoilers you should read but you can ACTUALLY just enjoy the drama on its own rn because the adaptation stayed true to the essence of the novel. havent covered a third of the book yet but so far, and rest assured, it's THAT GOOD. im using this site for the novel because the prose is beautiful, but you can read from other sites, this is just my preference. https://www.readthedrama.com/novels/chasing-jade-zhu-yu/chapters/
"His gaze was usually detached, but now there was something deeper in his eyes—something unfathomable, like an ancient well with no visible bottom."
Who and how can someone effectively translate those words onto the screen?
Only Zhang Ling He can. His eyes and his micro expressions are his gifts.
Im so glad im reading the novel and watching the drama side by side. Im all the more in awe of how good the screenwriting and the directorial skills employed in this drama
i loooooove tian xi wei's costume and styling here. it fits her better than than the normal traditional drama costumes. cinematography is also so gorgeously on point, and the perfect balance of humor sprinkled at the right moments + the comedic timing of the actors..... well, so far it has been so so good. even the support roles! so damn good. the cast and crew did an extremely great job for this. thank you so much for the hardwork. cant wait to finish the rest of the episodes.
for the first 2 eps i've watched, not bad. not bad at all. in fact, it was a surprisingly good drama for someone like me who cannot relate to the FL's character at all. sticking to this till the last ep coz im just curious about how the characters will overcome their troubled pasts.
i have to admit, song wei long now has a contender in my BEST ACTOR GAZES list. while SWL has that smouldering and passionate vibe in his eyes, he yu's penetrating, intimate gaze feels like he's looking right into your soul. mehn. that's absurd. i have no other drama of him that i've watched in the past that i can compare this performance with, but he is brilliant in being jin zhao.
amazing for the director to bring this on-screen, too. a BIG thank you as well for how the writer, despite the sensitivity of the theme, made the romance and intimacy of the 2 main characters palatable not disgusting and cringe; especially on creating sexual tensions in the most appropriate times hahahahaha (yeah, I KNOW!!!! there's really nothing appropriate about it, but heck yah, that's what fueled this drama forward)....hahaha.
