You can also watch light hearted Korean dramas.. The same way you can also find heavy Chinese dramas. Personally, I feel Taiwanese dramas are better since there is less censorship. Korean dramas are more conservative than people give them credit for.

It is also a very old movie, so using modern gender standards to judge it is unfair but Korea does have a problem which this movie whitewashes. You should study Korean culture. Chinese dramas have certainly gotten better The Legends which is recent is pretty good but oldies like Chinese Paladin are always fun. Jin Yong drama adaptations too. Maybe speak to a therapist or counselor. This could be a sign of depression. A drastic change of mood from happy(during kung fu) to sadness(during dramas) is a sign of depression. Some shows are popular based on cute moments regardless of nonsensical plot I enjoyed Attention Love even though I objectively would consider it crap because I am a fan of Joanne Tseng.
