I think it is unfair to blame the actresses, because if they did not do what the director wanted they would have reshot the scene. The scripts of these stories are usually weak Established actresses can use their stage presence to carry a show. Not much can be said for new actresses. That is why the female villains are usually most interesting since they play more of an active role. You should try Fights Break Sphere. The action was good even though the story was weak and a season 2 is planned The show is low budget though, I recal episodes of just two dudes talking to each other Most the female leads were too busy starring in Ruyi's Royal Palace so it was just the male lead talking to another dude for long stretches haha
This is very poor. The directing and script is bad. This is just a rehash of the Martial Universe plot with a more age-appropriate cast. The antagonist is probably going to be useless and get replaced by the friend/brother of the protagonist so we get a brother vs brother final battle. All the powerful elders are also dying like flies in order to make the protagonist relevant which makes the story bereft of any mentors or powerful characters by the end The story is one major battle after another but we only get to see 10 people at most fighting. It is not difficult to show thousands of soldiers like ants in a landscape fighting. It is really disappointing. Given how amateurish it looks, the blooper reels at the end don't amuse you, instead they annoy you since they are doing such a bad job haha At the least the romance is better than Martial Universe, we wont get a bait and switch haha

It has nothing to do with culture. It's due to their inane censorship. They ban dramas for the stupidest reasons. Controversy makes for better stories. Unlike in Historical dramas, you can not criticize the government or do anything in modern dramas. Just like how they banned dramas with Korean actors in them
