Hahaha. I have found out that most dramas that have bad reviews are actually due to bad translations too.
I recently watched Yolk Man. The protagonist says " I like her" but the subtitle says " I want to have sex with her"
It was ridiculous. Since he had a pained expression on his face, the subtitles messed up the whole scene

As I got older, I felt offended by some movies and TV because it seems they were trying to incite crying. Gratuitous tragedy.
Royal harem stories are a good example. 99% of the female characters will get killed off. Sometimes even 100%.
I avoid Palace dramas like the plague as a result
I recommend Man Comes To Tang Dynasty. I am involved in getting Season 2 subbed

She is certainly is an expert in some things especially musical instruments like the qin.
But some of her reviews came off as elitist. Mainstream wasnt the word I was looking for.
At the end of the day, it is for entertainment not for academic purposes.
I do wish her well though. She is good at what she does even if I disagree with her most of the time

She rated Sword Dynasty poorly and I knew we were never going to agree.
Her ratings are too shallow.
She seems to rate things based off mainstream popularity too.
You can make an emotional connection to a low budget production.
It doesnt need to have all the bells and whistles.
Personally, I discovered that as long as you are a fan of the actor/actress and the episodes are under 40, you can enjoy most dramas.
It is not an academic paper that needs to follow some set of rules.
I am pretty happy about the new drama episode limit rule.
I have also been limiting myself to dramas at 40 episodes and under
Preferably, under 30.
20 episodes seem to be a sweet spot for me since it ends before I lose my interest eg Soul Stitcher haha

I watch Asian dramas to ogle at pretty ladies, most of them have crappy plots.

Don't worry, make up fixes everything. I am just happy they are not using a 16 year old actress. The Great Ruler is pretty hard to watch. It is more like The Great Snot nosed kid since the plot has nothing to do with a ruler.
Lucky the bird girl is mature and pretty enough for me to ogle .
Liu Yifei was also very young then but ignorance is bliss. She is still my favorite Xiaolongu

He has not had a big role yet. He is playing Yang Guo which is good. I wonder who will play Xiaolongu

She obviously likes someone else. I said that it is the closest thing to wuxia, I didn't say it was wuxia but this is definitely not xianxia. At least in the modern term when you refer to the mass-murdering protagonist. This story is about morality and it has a lot of surprises. Many things are not what they seem.

As others pointed out, this is similar to the original Chinese Paladin: very heavy in comedy at the beginning before the real story starts, so if you don't understand the culture, you might not get it.
For all its faults, this is certainly not forgettable.

This is the closest to classical wuxia that you will see. Also, you seem to be misunderstanding something. The girl didnt like him haha.
It is a lot better than most popular dramas, at least story wise even if it is low budget
