I do agree it is a toxic relationship, at least in the beginning - he is a psychopath with emotional problems, that has been betrayed and bullied his entire youth that has difficulty understanding people and she is trying to kill him by seducing him and having him fall for her- that's not a healthy foundation. I, however, completely disagree about him not being a good character - there is no doubt TTJ is going to be remembered for years as a fan favorite.

But fans love these kind of dynamics in a xianxia genre

Healthy relationships that solve problems through rational discussions are best for healing, or fluffy rom com dramas - and there are plenty of those like Road Home, Be Yourself etc

in a xianxia, I want the two to cry, betray each other through misunderstandings, not being able to let it go, and vomit blood constantly when emotionally wounded. Xianxias are meant to represent crazy, obsessive love through flawed people that is able to endure though hundreds of years and multiple lifetimes - makes for great dramas and memorable characters.

the book is a blast - i'm rereading it, but enjoyment of the book rests on how much you like villain protagonists being bad, but the story is more choppy and confusing than the show. However, the book is rated highly on the original site it was published on, but lower on Novel Updates - so I'm not really sure why readers of the translated version don't like the book vs the original readers.

yeah i watched Mr. Bad, what like six months ago? It was not the best but the acting saved the lackluster script... and chen zhe yuan can pull off loveable bad boy. If this was good I'd be interested, but ... seeing the score plummet...

i'm not a fan of her - like why waste an hour watching that when you can watch a drama episode in the same time?

I want to point out how much I love the soundtrack. I think i read a complaint earlier that it was underwhelming, but I totally disagree. It's subtle but adds so much to the mood and unsettling vibe.

I'm kinda sick of cdramas where they have 1-2 songs and just blare it at every emotional moment, and not letting the acting and directing take the forefront in delivering what is needed to the audience.

I do recommend really great headphones or speakers if needed - it really comes out and ohh, love it!

I've always loved villain protagonists and this is delivering!

i read the book - it is a happy ending, the BE happens and then you just read the next chapters and extras....it's not an either or

i loved the book and I'm really happy with this adaptation - i've seen some bad ones where they have butchered characters and motivations, but this nails it so perfectly. I was afraid they'd make him nice but nope he is just as bad and evil as in the book and their relationship looks to be just as angsty and complicated - and all my favorite parts so far have been included and not cut!
