I’m a fan of cdrama historical dramas but struggle a bit with Xianxia - is this going to be an issue? Like I always want to try them but some just seem confusing or a bit too much….
Won’t argue, this is a relatively low key drama with all the beauty of old historical chinese buildings and town. Absolutely stunning. The leads had chemistry- just wish once they connect they didn’t fall into the very platonic hugs amd smiley stares type relationship these shows give us once they connect. The best romances continue to show a couple doing couple things. I am trying to figure out what the overall point was of the show. It starts out quite defined. Two opposites coming together- a reviewer called this enemies to lovers, nope, its not that. I never saw them as enemies not once. Different but thats not the same thing. We have the usual entitled 2FL who thinks because she has a past (that wasn’t overly clear in any kind of flashback that they ever acted like a couple) fully expects her return to bring jubilation from the ML and anyone that might now be in his life to swiftly exit. I hate that trope, it is just annoying and drama writers could try being a bit more imaginative these days. After that gets resolved we move into a big long skippable part of the show where they advocate for traditional chinese craftmanship, of course, lets do it, I support, but the evil foreigners mock the chinese and I get the sense this becomes about political messaging rather than a valid storyline. In efforts to make a slice of life story, it just feels a bit mid, which is a shame I was hoping for more by the way it began. This is certainly no Meet Yourself, which I feel so far has truly pulled this off and can’t be beat. Not sure why the actual foreigners who speak English in these shows actually are terrible at English. The Chinese actors were pronouncing words better at times. Come on, you can’t find a single decent actor in China to pull off a better foreigner? They always come across wooden and have the acting skills of a brick. Music, aesthetics and main leads made this show.
These 10 min a piece series are interesting- and some of them are so far fetched and ridiculous its the reason you end up loving it. I gave this a 7, because its not got the credibility to be worth more than that. Super soap operay and plot holes everywhere- like who just has random pregnancy tests hanging around the bathroom, or the cop sirens but the bad guy is still tied up in the house, with no cops are we to assume, they came and then just left them to deal with the bad guy?🤣🤣🤣🤣 Either way a lot of nonsense, but little guy is cute, usually they are the VIP in any long lost parent trope. They save the show!
I should have started this sooner instead of Good day to be a dog
You’d be surprised but I thought the leads of the dog story had way more chemistry than these two. Surprising given who those leads are but they sure had some zing in parts 🤣🤣
She held on to the necklace which represented her and Tae Ha's longing for each other, which transported her back…
The Director of Red Sleeve added the final scenes to show their reuniting in the afterlife afyer Junho’s death. They said they did that because the true story is so tragic, to help viewers. It wasn’t an illusion it was reuniting at his death.
okay this cements it, if Lee SeYoung is in a drama I will just avoid it forever
She seems to act a bit silly in scenes at times, and it doesn’t help chemistry building. After seeing her in Red Sleeve I thought she was ok, but I’m starting to think Lee Junho brought the zing to the party because after seeing her without him in other dramas, I can see that shes not so great afterall. This ML is too unemotional for a romance. So combine the two, chemistry you will not get.
I finally finished it! It was really good at the start, interesting plot and chemistry etc but for some reason…
same, at some point I was talking myself into finishing it. chemistry was severly lacking here. Neither of them seemed that into each other until like the one scene later on where ML finally let us feel a bit of emotion. I skipped a lot towards the end.
Gave this an 8, wanted it to be more, but the great start just got really challenging as it progressed. I’m so on the fence with the ML. I truly believe he can shine I’m just not convinced he’s right for romances. This is the 3rd drama with him as a lead that he is scrapping by as believable. He’s very stiff in his delivery and lacks emotional expressions, and I’m feeling this from the FL, who I adored in the Red Sleeve, I’m starting to think Mr Romance Lee Junho brought the chemistry to that relationship. Their romantic scenes felt really weird at times. What on earth is all this great chemistry some reviewers are raving about? I did wonder if its the way those scenes were edited? The minute they kiss ir get close the scene is quickly cut. The script felt weird at times too. Repetition, and strange lines. As soon as we knew her staying was going to lead to his death, my head went ok thats enough for me, so shes got to go back and now save his doppelgänger but she can’t just switch to loving the previous guy surely??!!! But hey these writers sure love to troll us so who knows!!
Needless to say the ending was happy but disappointing honestly. That could have been excueted with some passion amd excitement at least, but nah it was more of a big hug oh your back as wooden as most the romance throughout sadly. I did think in the last part before the first seperation that the chemistry did escalate a bit - so there’s that. Some may call me fussy. I don’t think so - I’ve seen hundreds of these shows and some couples have it and some just don’t. Watching the KBS Awards I did wonder if the deserved to loose to My Dearest in the couple award - because EVERYONE was saying this chemistry beat out red sleeve. Nah. I’m not buying it. My Dearest won that award HANDS DOWN.
I was disappointed in the lack of a decent OST. What we got was super typical kdrama romance singing from the olden days that was too loud at times made my skin crawl. Please no. Romances these days have better tracks than that.
Still, for the concept, I liked it. Skipped a lot of the latter part, I’m just not up for that - perhaps if I emotionally felt chemistry from this couple I might have cared more. I didn’t care much until the final episode and then I wanted it to resolve do much faster than that. Like for reals lets give the viewers a little bit more comfort time after destroying our souls with the sad tension they pull..
I quite liked this show, at times. It starts out really fun and engaging. It goes downhill once we get the side plot and especially the historical scenes. There is so much repetition and YES producers, we have good enough memories we don’t need to watch the same scenes over and over again, we remember them the last 4 times we saw it. The initial few minutes of each show were silly recaps too. I waited til this was all released before binge watching- so I have no empathy for those complaining about how only 1 episode a week released, its not that hard to just wait until its all out. The bad guy part of the plot was dumb, and doesn’t really make a great reason the family was cursed. I disliked there were no apologies. ML is great, I was a little worried we were going to get another typical wooden acting from him, but he gave a great performance throughout. FL - I swear she looks so much like Lee Junho in this show lol - portrayed her role equally well. They really do carry this show, which is admittedly really strange concept, that seemed off putting. Great support from the secondary characters especially Yool and FL best friend at school. I would have loved this to be more rom com than the suspense elements that became part of this show.
For sure you will probably want to skip the draggy historical scenes, but its still worth a watch. Not the years best tho, thats for sure.
Very cliche drama with a couple of plot holes. I’m glossing over all that because the leads looked great and had chemistry. Sadly, that chemistry wasn’t taken full advantage of.
Angst at the end for the heck of it in the name if cdrama, and the witchy stepmother and step siater are so overdone tropey, but hey I’ve watched and dropped a bunch of crappy ones lately so this one probably stands out just because it was better than those. 🤣 Nothing ground breaking. A tropey filler.
I’m so confused by the reviews giving this an 8. Guys I’ve tolerated this for 17 episodes and its sheer torture. A silly ridiculous childish FL, and a confusing as heck plot. I’m out.
Watched mostly on double speed, which is about as much time as you’ll want to give this show. Nowhere near as good as the other shows with more high profile actors in that have pulled off this trope of single mother being rediscovered by the long lost Dad. It was soapy and ridiculous for most. Why is the FL always leaving Kele? Why does the childish idiot 2FL always happen to be there to intercept things she has no right to access? Why is the mother so forgiving even after knowing the deeds of the 2FL? Kele is the cutest and a good thing the 5 year old knows how to speak because the leads can’t communicate for toffee lol. Chemistry with the leads is great. Please stop the incessant slapping and theres far too much sexual assault in this show that doesn’t seem to be taken very seriously.
