Torn. I want to love love love this drama. But I ended up watching too much of it on skip. It’s a slow starter, which is fine. The characters are likable quickly. However, I take too much issue with the FL push back. Yes, she falls hard and I admire the perseverance she has. She’s smart and mature-which every time China turns the tables on the FL stereotypes of silly immature girls I applaud. However, she pushes the limits too far. I really didn’t mind the turmoil they go through, like any romance these days the break up always seems inevitable. Usually they are for dumb stupid reasons we can never get behind. This one is believable. The ML is an idiot for never talking to her about it, so he got what he fully deserved- but the reconciliation takes far too long and again the ML cannot open his freaking mouth to her. For that reason I felt like this show tanked for me towards the end. It is not believable to me that the 2 mature leads we were presented with for 85% of the drama would lack communication skills about the most important thing in the world to them. So I can’t give it a 10 like I would have loved to do.
Music is nice, I shipped the seconds as the show progressed. I don’t like quick make ups and sudden endings. This was nice but could have been so much better with another 30 minutes of all the feels.
Loved this show, the chemistry between the leads is 🔥🔥🔥. They filmed those closer intimate scenes really well. I was a little surprised they made the FL so uber shy and childish in the scenes you would expect a mature woman who has been in relationships before to not act that way. However, its a cdrama and they typically like their FL to be childish as usual. The side characters were very annoying- I mean you’ve got a grown woman angry, spiteful and depressed over being dumped 5-6 yrs prior. I’d understand feeling angry about plagiarism- thats fine, but she seemed more upset that he had dumped her. No one is still that messed up after all those yrs, because someone let you go. Taro also got annoying in his constant talking and behavior- like let it go man. No man would be that persistent through that much abuse either. I ended up skipping all those scenes. It was the side of this show that dragged it down from a 10 to a 9 for me. Cut the length of the drama and just give us the leads storyline. The 2ML was very wholesome and that made a nice change. He was a gentleman to the end. Would have been nice for a mature lady to be snapped up by him along the way.
The computer game plot stopped very abruptly but I suppose it served its purpose. 😎
Great show, loved the music, the opening credits were fun. Nice easy going and simple. A few stereotypical tropes, but thats to be expected. Was glad all the parents and grandparents were supportive. Glad no one made too much of a fuss of his age. There is only 4 years between them in real life anyway. No biggie.
why is this rated so low? I was hesitant to watch it but now I’m about halfway through and it’s really enjoyable!…
Not everyone likes it. Thats why. Why can’t you trust ratings? They are what they are. People rate how they like. If its not high that means not everyone liked it. The end.
Seems to me a lot of the reviews are written by people who are obsessed with Rowoon or wrote a 10 star review before the series finished. There were times while watching I may have given this a 10, but now it’s over I certainly can’t. I don’t know what some of these people saw but there was not the crazy chemistry some were saying. This show does drag, especially in the last 3-4 episodes- and the ending is rushed and for me, unsatisfying. Why is no-one calling out the weird match between a child and an adult? Like what on earth once her hair is up in that wrapped around braid she looks like his mother!! Like make the prince older or something to start with. That was just weird. An enjoyable Sageuk for sure, but has no rewatch value for me, and is fairly forgettable- certainly not one of the best of the year. I liked Destined with You far better than this one. Actor’s are not the problem here, they all did a great job. The problem was the script and pacing.
Absolutely incredible. Well done Japan for doing something no other US film has been able to do for the past 12 months…. put me inside the movie theater. ✌🏼
The tension, plot, music, and cast were fantastic.
Loved: Calm and peace this show exudes from almost the minute it begins. There is almost no drama here, and everything flows at an easy pace. If you need some mellow no stress love story you have come to the right place. Theres oodles of chemistry to go around, and the friends are a solid wholesome bunch. The scenery and music are outstanding here, in fact I think this might be my best OST yet.
Didn’t love so much: Though I loved the easy going pace, this story solidly lacks a plot. What was happening here other than 2 people discovering each other and very slowly dating until the writers decided to call this quits! The food. There’s just way too much of it. I started skipping the cooking it just got so tiresome. I wanted more so much more of the seconds. Like really, we could have filled some of the monotonous cooking time with fleshing out their roles, because yes even those who are supporting the mains can bring alot to the party and feel of a ahow when given the time of day. They were rushed way too fast. What on earth is the time skip for if the characters are not given any growth? ML is same patient mature man he starts as, likewise FL is a babyish girl the entire show. With no conflict even time didn’t seem to bring about development in her character and that was disappointing. I would have loved to see a increase in maturity and depth in her character. But, sadly this is the cdrama go-to with FL. portray cutsie little girls even with women in their 20’s and sadly even 30’s sometimes.
Overall though this is certainly worth the watch, it doesn’t match up to the masterful Hidden Love, but it has that vibe. It’s unique enough in its use of showing the strengths of traditional chinese music and storytelling- and the voice acting leads was fun too.
Just be grateful the skip buttons are there for the exhausting parts. Enjoy!
Pros: good casting, great chemistry. The leads have great very natural rapport with each other once they get together. Lots of kisses. Music OST is gorgeous and not overwhelming, sound effects fit nicely. Side characters are ok, really loved second couple.
Cons: Sexual Assault needs to be called out for what that was. It is not Ok just because it was a woman doing that to a man. It is not romantic or OK, ever. Pacing of this writing is so off base. Starts out odd but ok, and then gets so so exhausting to the point where everyone in the comments is complaining about it. Draggy. Pointless plot line. You will start to be so aggravated by the FL. Writers need to test these shows on audiences in advance of release and then edit the crap out of it. Is a little tropey in parts, but glad at least ML parents are pleasant. Would have liked more of second couple, and less of the grudge bearing.
Overall this thing is not going to win any awards, but it’s a pleasant watch (minus draggy parts) to pass the time. Miles Wei is just getting better and better. Stellar performance!
What an absolute disaster of a show. Relied on outrageous Viki ratings. 9.5 for what??!?! seems most people rated this before it was even 1/4 way in and there lies the problem. It started well with a great concept and went downhill progressively. Firstly, I have enjoyed KYD’s other dramas, but this script was so bad he spends most this show utterly depressed. His historical scenes were the only ones that showcased his talent. The FL is not suited for the role either. There was absolutely no chemistry between this couple. Any close scenes were awkward and the few kisses totally gross. So disappointed. Was so excited for this. I’m going to have to console myself with some of his other shows that actually killed. Don’t hold on to any hope it gets better either because it doesn’t. The story is a fail, the writers lean on old tropes that don’t sell dramas any more, and the ending…. meh. If you end a show not caring if they end up together or not - I think that is a writer fail. No emotion for the leads or this show. Sorry I bothered.
