in some of these dramas [ long-family-everyday-etc] , there are always messages /guidance/manipulation/etc , for…
Or maybe there’s a plot twist coming in the last two episodes, like HDS initially didn’t want another child, but, as often happens in this drama, he conveniently overheard a conversation. 🤪 He learns that although MKS has longed for a child all her life, she’s decided to let go of that dream out of fear that it might create tension with her stepchildren and lead to complications over inheritance and succession. This revelation moves HDS and makes him determined to give MKS the child she deeply desires; not just out of love, but to reassure her about her place in the new family.

It’s honestly that simple to make HDS’s actions seem less problematic. I wish the writer had let someone like me give her an earful. It could’ve saved her from a lot of avoidable pitfalls. 😩

hahaha .... even though most of us complaining about the last 20 ep. ... the rates are 20.3 % .... the writers…
Yup. The drama has a good-looking and likable cast, couples from different age groups, and families without evil characters. They all genuinely care for each other. There’s no violence, no sex, and no complicated plotlines, which means you can comfortably switch off your brain and just smile while watching it with your family. All of these factors should’ve worked in its favor for good ratings.

Weekend dramas also have their own loyal viewer base. The problem lies with the writer, she just couldn’t deliver a coherent or engaging story. I don’t blame anyone else. Even Korean viewers share the same complaints. Some even joked that the writer used ChatGPT to write the drama, but honestly, that’s unfair to ChatGPT. I’ve used it myself to write character-driven scenarios just for fun, and it actually works amazingly well when you feed it the right inputs!
Honestly, I believe AI could easily take over the jobs of many K-drama writers one day. If it’s just about generating family-friendly, emotionally engaging plots with familiar tropes.

KBS hasn't posted any BTS videos in quite a while.
However, here's a short clip from a variety show (I think?) where three participants take on the challenge of playing extras or minor roles on the set of Eagle Brothers. This was filmed on the day the Eagle family went golfing together. Some parts of the clip might be a bit annoying, but since it's a variety show, it's most likely scripted.

Okay, I won’t ask why HDS is forcing the unwilling MKS to have a child, despite her age and the fact that he already has two grown children. I really won’t ask, because at this point, I’ve conditioned myself to accept anything. 😅 HDS now feels like a completely different character from who he was midway through the series.

Also, did anyone notice how baby Hani looked super sleepy in the scene where HDS was babysitting her? 🤔 She seemed totally distracted and was trying to wriggle out of his arms. Poor baby probably has to work overtime thanks to the drama’s tight shooting schedule. 😥

Even with these cultural restrictions (which have significantly evolved in the newer generations) I believe they would still consider the mother's health and the risk of genetic defects in child, especially with a pregnancy at such an old age with 46 years old eggs. 😅

Had the writer kept it light-hearted, funny, a bit more logical, and heartwarming, it could’ve easily soared to a 30%. 🙂

I was thinking the same thing! Great voice! actually. they were all able to carry a tune. I first saw him in Fated…
I've always believed Choi Dae Chul has the potential to be a lead actor, but the industry is tough, and once you're typecast (as a side character), it’s incredibly difficult to break out of that mold, unless you land a breakout role or have strong backing from your agency. I’ve seen his singing videos on YouTube, and he does an impressive job with challenging musical pieces. In fact, many members of the cast, including the actress who plays Jang Miae, are good at singing.

Thank you for voicing my concern, Ruby Rain. I've already addressed this rumor about the leads 'disliking each other' several times in this thread. I didn’t have to, but I still provided multiple examples showing they probably did not, like the fact that they went golfing together twice on non-filming days. Despite this, some people continue clinging to the easiest explanation their assumptions can support, even though they have no actual evidence.

Nobody seems to be asking basic, logical questions like -
Do the ML and FL have any history or reputation for being difficult to work with?
Do we know them well enough to confidently analyze their personalities?
If their chemistry was fine until halfway through the drama, what changed?

If someone wants to fairly critique their acting in this particular project, that’s valid. But questioning their entire careers based on one show isn’t reasonable.

The failure of this drama lies entirely with the writing. I've seen UJW in many roles, and she’s consistently been a solid actress. Even the best actors have a few misfires in their careers. I’m willing to give her a pass for the lack of chemistry here and will look forward to her next project.

In fact, I believe the issue might be that UJW, who’s used to working with stronger directors and writers is struggling to adapt to poor writing and a tight schedule. That’s understandable. She's could be an intuitive performer who needs strong material to fully inhabit a role, and this situation likely has nothing to do with her co-star. It’s worth noting that she even shared clips of tomorrow’s kiss scene on her YouTube and Instagram, which doesn't align with someone avoiding or disliking their co-lead.

Lastly, I hope the "out of shape" comment made earlier was just a hyperbole. Because if it wasn’t, it sounds like the person making it hasn’t actually seen what an average 50 year old looks like in real life.

Why retire? Don’t we need a new crop of senior actors? 😋

Both of them seem to enjoy acting and have embraced their age well. I hope they continue as long as their health permits. AJW has had several pseudo-retirements in the past, but he always returns. 😬

Another drama for UJW and AJW too, maybe set when they are in their 70s. 😋

Don’t startle me! I was just daydreaming about a future bed scene. Kim Hee Sun has to make an exception. 🤣

Jokes aside, I really don’t think kissing or other intimate scenes are necessary to portray romance on screen. It’s all in the eyes, the hearts, and… a little help from clever camera work. 😅

Love scenes don’t need to be blatant to feel genuine, especially when the leads are older. I wasn’t expecting a high-tension, heart-pounding romance. But the real issue is the lack of character and story development. In fact, there's hardly any development at all. Even the actors must be finding it difficult to connect with their roles in a meaningful, realistic way.

It’s a pity, because AJW and UJW actually looked really good together. 😥

She is a talented person. I came across her while searching for the Korean version of Phantom of the Opera. 😅

Since you mentioned Kim Hee-sun, I wonder what it would be like if she worked with Ahn Jae-wook again in a new drama. They appeared together in a couple of trendy dramas in the past and got along very well.

Actors’ personal preferences do matter, but in most of such cases their spouses aren’t connected to the entertainment industry at all. Even when that's the case, there are ways to manage boundaries, like Kim Hee-ae once mentioned, her husband simply chooses not to watch her dramas, many of which include risqué scenes.

In contrast, Ahn Jae-wook’s wife is a musical actress who often performs romantic and kissing scenes on stage, so she fully understands the nature of his work. The couple even brings their child to watch their performances, which sometimes include such scenes live. So, at least in the case of this drama, the decision to avoid romantic or intimate scenes likely didn’t come from the actor, but from the director and writer.

We are on the exact same page. For God's sake, who was the Einstein who thought about pairing the Main Leads if…
If my theory about Uhm Ji-won’s emotional exhaustion is correct, then it might not be due to unprofessionalism, it could also be a result of the fast-paced filming schedule. If you recall, there was a warm and comfortable chemistry between the leads in the middle of the drama. It was only toward the end that things started to feel colder.

The writer and director seem satisfied with the final product, so it’s likely they were completely fine with Uhm Ji-won’s performance. This may have been exactly how they envisioned her character appearing on screen (assuming they had a vision at all).

I’ve seen Uhm Ji-won in a number of projects over the years, and she’s both a capable and professional actress. That’s why I’m inclined to believe that the lack of romantic spark in her character wasn’t entirely her responsibility.

I don’t think his wife looks much like Seulki.
It’s funny some people have also said that Ahn Jae-wook’s wife resembles (and even sounds like) Uhm Ji-won. But I don’t see the resemblance there either.

I also think this conservatism is largely driven by the preferences of weekend family drama audiences. The decision to avoid intimate scenes is unlikely to be the actors' personal choice, as most would not want to risk losing work opportunities over such restrictions. For instance, actor Heo Sung Tae once said he would never film a sex scene out of respect for his wife but he made an exception in Squid Game because he considered it a valuable project.

In stark contrast, Korean film actors, even those who are married often have no issue performing explicit or semi-nude scenes, sometimes more for shock value than narrative necessity. Even weekday dramas, especially those aired on cable networks, frequently include kissing or other intimate scenes, regardless of the actors' marital status.

I recall Ahn Jae-wook mentioning that he believes The Eagle maintains decent ratings precisely because it avoids violence and risqué content, making it comfortable viewing for the whole family.
