With these new stills, released on Day 1 of CNY, Youku signalled its intention to air TBW in Feb. These stills look really good. The costumes they wear look really high quality, nothing cheap, affirming the high budget status of this drama.

What comes next could be a new trailer. The first trailer received some negative feedback. They had months to fix those issues that some of us are familiar with. A superior 2nd trailer will help to calm our nerves.

After the trailer could be the confirmed airing date, with detailed airing schedule. Then, the OSTs, but not necessarily in that order. OSTs may well be released first before airing schedule.

It seems that for the CNY celebrations, all the major TV and drama producers are choosing representatives to give performances. So, the biggest entertainment stars in China will be performing. It is an honour for Dilraba and Yang Yang to have been chosen by Tencent to perform, for their roles in making YAMG a smashing success in 2021. The two of them will be singing a duet.

I think Allen will also be performing, for his role in One and Only. Not sure if he will be performing with Bailu.

We should watch that programme.

That is possible, but not likely. We are passed 12 midnight in China, and they have started celebrating the CNY. Millions will be home. If they have a new trailer, now is the best time to show it.

If they released a new poster for LOA, there should be something coming up for TBW. Both dramas are their big projects for 2022, so no reason why they would take care of one and neglect the other.

Yes, she is filming something right now with YY for the Chinese New Year, and doing it under the Chinese Aerospace banner. You are right that YAMG ended months ago, so it is hardly to promote that drama. Maybe it is just a way of showing appreciation to Chinese Aerospace, for the help they rendered in the production of YAMG.

There is little doubt they are using all this time to tidy up the post production, so that we will get a top class Xianxia drama.

We are expecting this drama to air only after MTC has completed its run, meaning toward the end of Feb. Hence, promotion may come only this week or next. Also, promotion may not have anything to do with Reba's present activity. Promotion will likely come in the form of a new trailer, an official announcement of the airing date, release of some of the OSTs, things like that, rather than personal appearance by Reba and Allen. At least not at this moment.

In the middle of airing, it is possible that Reba and Allen might come together to do video shoot, e.g., between the airing of Part 1 and Part 2, but not likely now, as both Reba and Allen are busy and this is the Chinese New Year period.

In the past, TLB was promoted via Happy Camp, but that programme has ceased production.

I suppose one simple way we can show how the Summer Games affected viewership in China will be to analyse viewership numbers and compare. Check the number of views on nights when China did not have any competitors competing, and compare that with nights when Chinese competitors were involved.

We probably do not have those numbers, but Tencent would have the numbers for You Are My Glory.

I do understand that people can always watch the Games first, and then watch Chinese dramas later. But, it would also depend on how late the Games end; and whether people need to work the next day. For the Chinese New Year period, obviously, people who missed the drama at night, can watch it during the day time the following day, or even watch 2-3 backdated episodes a few nights later.

I have do doubt about the loyalty of Reba and Allen's fan bases in China, and how big they are. My personal opinion is that for a drama to do really well, it must be able to reach beyond those fan bases. I call them 'neutrals'. Meaning, they are neither fans of Reba or Allen. If TBW can reach these neutrals, we could be looking at really huge viewership numbers for both Part 1 and Part 2 of TBW.

It is these 'neutrals' that we might miss, if TBW has to compete against the Winter Games.

We are all just discussing, so please do not worry about who is right, who is wrong. Like you said, if they show this after the Games, then, there is totally no issue. We do not worry at all, about competition from the Games.

At this moment, my opinion is that they will show it after the Games. Why? Because there been no new trailer. The later the new trailer comes, the later the drama will be aired. Also, they have waited this long. I just feel, they will just wait till the Games are over. Why take unnecessary risks?

The Alices in China said the games wouldn't affect the drama?? I am bit surprised, because the Summer Games did affect viewership of YAMG. When the Games were on, communication in Weibo just focused on all the Gold Medals won by China, and stories about the winners and crowded out communication about YAMG.

So it lost a bit of word of mouth advertising for YAMG. The same could happen during the Winter Games. On nights when the Chinese have good chance of winning, more people will watch the Games. Whether they will watch dramas after, it depends on whether they need to work the next day, and how late the Games end. There is always the risk there, of that happening, of losing views to the Games. So, it will be safer to air it without the Games.

I see! Then, you do not need to worry. Those of us on the page of TLB, we can assure you, Director Chu is a very experienced director. He has directed many successful Xianxia dramas (Ashes of Love; Noble Aspirations; Eternal Love of Dream).

He really knows how to pace a story, so that it does not get draggy. Take TLB, for instance. It moves very steadily from E1 right till the end. And he is an excellent story teller. When my 85 year old auntie watched TLB, she could understand the drama without too much explanation from me.

I think that is what they could be doing, avoiding both. Especially the Winter Games. It is a more fearsome competitor than Mirror Twin Cities. If Youku is truly not afraid of MTC, they could even launch TBW right after 20 Feb. But, I suspect they have a backdoor agreement to let MTC air peacefully.

It has been a long wait for us, but it will be worth it. It gives them more time to work on the CGI, which is absolutely important in a Xianxia drama. We do not want an inferior drama to spoil the reputation and hardwork of our two leads, other members of the cast, and the entire production team.

I checked. Mr Sunshine has the same director. That was broadcast in 2015, 7 years ago. If you think that Mr Sunshine is better than this drama, you are saying that the director has regressed in his skill during these 7 years?? Sorry, but I beg to disagree. This is a very well directed drama. The story flows very smoothly, if one cares enough to invest time in watching and trying to understand the story, and not jump to premature conclusions.

And the actress who acted as the FL, Li Xiaoran, she is a very good actress. If you are saying the FL is dumb, you are saying Li Xiaoran has picked a bad script? One that made her look stupid?? I hardly think so. She put on great acting skill in Joy of Life, and was totally charming, even if she played a bad character there. I watched Joy of Life many years ago, and till today, I can still recall that face, and the character she played. She is a smart actress who picked her script very carefully.

In fact, after watching this drama, I am going to search for her past dramas and watch them one by one.

This is a beautifully written drama, beautifully directed, and beautifully acted out by Li Xiaran and Wallace Chung, and many of the other cast members.

I too gave up on Cupid's Kitchen. It was fun at the beginning. But, I guess I am too traditional. I could not take the large age gap between the ML and the FL. 16 years! Why they cannot find a younger ML in mainland China, and have to find such a old ML from Taiwan, I do not know. Once they started kissing, I just could not watch anymore. Felt almost like a father kissing his daughter mouth-to-mouth.

'Because of love' has no such problem. The ML and FL are about the same age. They are in their 40s, acting characters who are in their early 30s. And they are really good actors, so I got hooked after just one episode. I might even re-watch it, while waiting for TBW, as some of the episodes are really good.

Yes, I would say so. Being filial is a core Confucian value, which is important not just in Chinese culture, but also in Korean and Japanese cultures. But culture is something we acquire socially through education in schools or at home, not something we are born with.

Hence, if the ML's attitude toward the father is due to filial piety, it is something he learned in school or something his parents taught him from young.

So, it entirely possible that he does not want to 'fight' his father is due to his sense of respect for his father, not because he is weak.

We often hear of stories in real life, where a guy would not marry a girl, just because his mother would not approve of the girl. Lots of stories like that, involving very famous male actors, who gave up their relationships with a girl, because of respect for their parents.

But, there are exceptions. Have you read the story involving the former emperor of Japan? Former Emperor Akihito insisted on marrying former Empress Michiko, despite very heavy objections from Akihito's mother. Michiko was a commoner. I think Akihito's mother felt that his future daughter-in-law would not be good enough for his son. But Akihito and Michiko fell in love while playing tennis. He insisted on marrying Michiko, despite his mother's objection. And it is said that former Empress Michiko fell into depression on a number of occasions. because of her mother-in-law's attitude toward her. But Michiko is such a strong lady, as strong as her husband. She survived all that, and is still very much alive today.

So, yes, you could say that the story could have been written such that the ML stood up to his father and insisted on marrying the FL, even if his father objected. But, if that is the case, we will have a very different drama. And there are dramas written like that, where the ML gave up everything - family inheritance, etc. - to marry the girl he loved. And years later, they would put aside their differences and reconcile. A lovely drama can be written like that too.

But here, the writer has chosen to write the story this way, that the ML is very filial, and there is nothing wrong at all. It is very much in line with Chinese culture. I just have this strange feeling though, that we are about to see a change in the ML's attitude toward his father in the last few episodes.
