That is not too bad an idea, if you miss that voice. Anyway, you get to watch Reba too!

Another Xianxia (Fantasy) drama that is quite good is Love and Destiny (2019). It has a plot that is similar to ELOD. Pretty sure the female lead there is voiced by someone other than Qiao Shi Yu. I watched that one, while waiting for ELOD.

Waited for a long time for ELOD after TMOPB, so had to watch something. There is also another one by Dilraba called Flame's Daughter. Not sure if you watched that one.

If you do not mind watching modern cdramas, here are some possibilities:

1. To Fly with you. It deals with ice skating, both speed and figure skating. There is some romance in it, but it deals mainly with motivational issues related to some skaters. Nice one to get you in the right frame of mind for the Winter Games.

2. Cupid's Kitchen. This one is still airing. It deals with food. Timed to coincide with the Chinese New Year.

3. Reset. This is a triller and has high viewer rating in China.

The historical drama that is currently airing is Mirror Twin City. You can try that too. I am not sure if Qiao Shi Yu voiced the FL there, as the info I have is not updated to 2022.

In that case, you might want to consider watching something else. Because, if you listen to it often enough, you will remember the voice. And, when you watch TBW later, it might cause some discomfort.

Ok so while waiting for an update for TBW, I decided to watch Love and Redemption however I'm so distracted with…
Same one. Her name is Qiao Shi Yu. She also did the voice of Li Changge in TLB. Most likely the most prolific voice actress in China. Did for hundreds of dramas, since 2009.

Edit: Did not watch Love and Redemption, but this information can be found online.

Just read this might air in the 1st week of Feb and just like TLB surprised us, TBW might do the same! So no promos…
TLB did not surprise us. The Happy Camp episode that featured many of the TLB cast members was aired on March 21 last year. 10 days later, TLB aired. I remember watching that episode, before the drama, and everyone on that page at that time, pretty much expected the drama to air really soon after that.

But, Happy Camp has already ceased production a few months back. It will no longer be available as a cdrama promotional tool.

While waiting, some of us are on the lookout for younger female leads who might one day replace Dilraba, should…
2017 is years ago. This is more recent one and coincides with pressure from mum, as she heads toward 30. You can read this, if you have yet to: https://www.chinesestarschannel.com/post/what-is-dilraba-dilmurat-ideal-type

Yang Mi is 35 this year, but actually got married in 2014, 8 years ago, when she was only 27, full three years even before she turned 30. If Reba gets married at 35, it would have been full 8 years more than when Yang Mi first got married. That would hardly be an unreasonable time frame.

I have learned long ago not to get fixated one particular actor or actress, no matter how much I admire any one of them. Particularly the actresses. Guys can carry on acting into their 50 and 60s, but female actresses is a different story altogether.

As an illustration, I supported a few HK actors like Chow Yuen Fatt and Tony Leung from the 70s onward, and females actresses like Carole Cheng, Joey Wong and Michelle Reis. The guys continued to work till this day. Michelle Reis quit after getting married. Carole Cheng switched to being a talk show host even while she was still a very popular drama actress. Joey Wong left the industry around 2004-2005.

So, learned my lesson long ago. I will hope for Dilraba to act for years and years, well into her 40s, if possible. But, I am also fully prepared, should she take a different path.

I think far ahead due to my educational background. 4-5 years is not a very long time frame at all. So, yes, I do wish to be ready with another actress to support, as a contingency. To look for one only in 4-5 years will be far too late. Also, even when we support Reba, her dramas are not being aired all the time. Like right now, we have been waiting for a long time for TBW to air, since YAMG.

Watching another actress/actor, scouting for the next actor/actress to support, I do not think I have somehow 'betrayed' Reba. If her drama is on, she gets priority. If it is not on, I can fill the time meaningfully by watching other stuff. Apart from Cdramas, I watch lots of American dramas.

Your very last line is so true, as can be seen from Cupid's Kitchen. Lareina Song's cousin addressed her as big sister in that drama. In Asian societies, family bond is very strong. We think not just about our own family but our brother's family, our sister's family. Western societies generally are more independent. You think more about your own nucleus family.

Please do not worry. Before my retirement, my career path led me to be in touch with lots of people in Europe, so I am aware that there is great diversity of views over there, regarding gender roles and so on. My youngest daughter went to Copenhagen twice, to take part in table tennis competition. Both my husband and I grew up on ABBA music. But we also listen to lots of Chinese music, and for me, Japanese Enka music.

I don't think I am over thinking it. In a recent a stand up comic that she did, she revealed strong hints that her mum wants her to get married soon. And in a recent interview, Reba revealed her ideal type of guy that is husband material. I am sure that interview was planned before hand and allowing such a question to be even asked of her shows that she is indeed thinking about the issue of marriage.

I am not from China, so I cannot tell for certain, but this is often portrayed in Cdramas (e.g., My Fated Boy) and online articles that I read, that social pressure to get married around the 30s is indeed strong in China.

Reba is rich, so she will never marry for financial reasons. But if the right guy comes along and she is really sure it is indeed the right guy, I think she will go for it.

I do not think her career is over, once she gets married. But it may well take a different direction, once she gets married. Especially if marriage leads to multiple children. She speaks excellent Mandarin; did well on the cast of Running Man when Angelababy took maternity leave from that programme. She can easily do that sort of stuff, as it will give her more control over her time, compared to acting in dramas (which could mean she needs to be away from home months at a time).

This is where Eastern and Western societies differ quite a fair bit. As you have noted, Yang Mi is indeed shamed in certain circles for working while having a kid. I think her case is somewhat interesting, because her daughter lives with her former in-laws in Hong Kong, while she is working in China.

I think most people in mainland China do not really blame her for putting her career first, instead of taking care of her girl. When she got divorced from her former husband, they probably agreed that primary care for their daughter should lie with the husband. Her former father in law is a very famous actor in Hong Kong, so likely lots of Hong Kong people might shame her. But her millions of fans in mainland China certainly would not.

In general, Asia societies are rather male orieted, though I do suspect this is gradually changing, as women get better and better educated.

Much would also depend on the influence of Confucianism. In Korea, where Confucianism is still very influential, I suspect gender roles are very well defined. Married women are expected to quit their job and become full time housewives. But there are lots of exceptions in the entertainment industry. Many of the A-list actresses in Korea continue to work, even after marriage and having kids. Maybe the amount of money these women make is so huge, even their husbands could not resist having their wives continue to act.

Dilraba herself is likely to be very progressive minded. Much will depend on whom she marries, and her future husband's attitude toward gender roles. If her husband is progressive minded, we will continue to see her in Cdramas for years. Else, things may indeed change.

She will not get married right now; but even if she does want to get married in 4-5 years, she will need to start thinking about it, even right now. And she will want to be very careful about it, and make the same mistake that Yang Mi made. We all know what happened to Yang Mi's marriage. Did not last very long. Or Zhao Liying's marriage, for that matter.

There are several ways paths an Asian female celebrity could follow, and it would all depend on whom they marry, and what happens after that.

Much would also depend on Dilraba herself, how she views her role after marriage. And this is where cultural differences could be clearly seen.

Take the example of Momoe Yamaguchi, a very famous Japanese singer and actress in the 70s. She was famous both in Japan and China. At the height of her popularity at age 21, she married, and left the entertainment scene completely, never to appear in front of the TV or in movie theatres. Her millions of fans cried buckets, but she decided she will take on the role of a traditional Asian woman, bear children and be a full time housewife.

That would be a very traditional view of a role of an Asian woman, and Momoe Yamaguchi was not the first nor will she be the last to leave the entertainment industry after marriage.

There are other paths, of course. Zhang Ziyi has continued to act, even though she is married and have kids. And she is well into her 40s. But, she has scaled back her acting quite a fair bit, as she is mother of 2 young kids, and a step-daughter from her husband's former marriage. He husband is from the entertainment industry as well, and is quite modern in outlook and hence does not mind her to continue to work in the entertainment industry.

So, there are many variables out there that we do not know: Dilraba's view on her role after marriage; the attitude of her future husband toward her role after marriage; whether they will have kids and how many kids, etc.

Her views on her role after marriage have never been made public. In a recent interview, all she revealed was what kind of man she would like to marry. She did not indicate if she preferred someone in the entertainment or otherwise. If she marries a 2nd generation rich guy who is very traditional minded, and then have many kids, she will have no choice but to scale back.

As her fans, we need to be very open minded about what she wants to do after marriage, and be prepared to accept whichever path she chooses. If she continues to act, good for us. If she chooses to hang up her costumes, and say goodbye to the entertainment world, we must be prepared for that as well.

It will not happen now, of course. Could be 5 years down the road before she is married. But, 5 years is really fast!! TMOPB was aired in 2017, and TLB in 2021. From Baifengjiu to Li Changge, 5 years went by just like that. In the blink of an eye.

I cherish every drama I get to watch her in the lead. But I am also ready, should she want to follow the path of Momoe Yamaguchi.

Uh , Though this is a rumor , I would very much want her to get something solid like ball lightning .Sad iQiyi…
Really? IQiYi in that much financial trouble? Is that one of the reasons she does not want or is afraid to pick up Ball Lightning? It is quite a big company, is it not? They should be able to weather whatever problem they are facing?

TLB is 3rd.
If you care to browse around this page, you will know that people don't really care about comment count. Perhaps we did, around May-July last year. But those days are months ago. Even then, we were not focussed on any specific target. We merely enjoyed discussing so much, our discussion threads grew very long and caused the jam.

Even though the MDL finally resolved the matter, the way it was done, by erasing an entire week of our comments, that action demoralised many people here. Many left after that, discouraged that our comments were being monitored. Even those who stayed behind no longer felt like discussing. We had the same family-like spirit like all of you on the page of Immortality, but it was not the same after that.

Since then, we completely lost interest in comment count. Why bother, when it can be erased unilaterally?

It is still a puzzle why someone would want to bring the issue of comment count number from Immortality to this page, because this page and the page of Immortality have no relation at all. Two very different communities (I mean the participants; no one is on this page as well as that page). Two very different genres of drama.

The next person who brings up the issue of comment count, we will completely ignore that person.

I am watching Cupid's Kitchen as well. The FL is the same as To Fly with You. I see in her, a younger and smaller (size wise) version of Dilraba. Reba will be 30 this year. The day will come when she will get married; and when her kids come along, it is inevitable that she will need to scale back her dramas.

Lareina Song is very young now. But the way she does her cute scenes reminds me of Dilraba. In China, they are always cultivating younger actors and actresses. Actresses more so, in anticipation of their retirement from the drama industry once they get married. With proper support, who knows? She may turn out to be Dilraba version 2.

Dilraba is indeed unique. I doubt any Chinese actress can replace her. It is not just her acting skill, but her off screen personality and her impeccable character. Completely scandal free.

But she will not be in front of our screen forever. We need to have an eventual replacement ready, in case we need it in 4-5 years.
