But apart from sound, I do feel that the use of those bird species were highly appropriate.
Eagles are used in hunting. They are fierce birds, often attacking smaller birds. AS said, in the grasslands, big fish eat smaller ones. So, eagles will be right for him, he needed to be fierce and strong, in order to survive.
Pigeons are gentler birds. That Changge should have dove patterns on her clothing (as noted by Fairydustpuppy) is highly appropriate. It would convey femininity. It symbolised Changge's survival strategy as well, in the grasslands.
You find pigeons everywhere around the world. Why so? They adapt. Whatever environment they are placed in, they would adapt and survive. That is the Changge we saw in TLB. After that scene, when she was scolded by AS (for refusing to eat and drink), she decided to adapt and survive
Thanks so much Biri Biri, for digging up those past explanations for the use of pigeon to symboilise Changge. Yes, native Chinese would make use of the sound of her name to think of a bird to match AS's eagle.
The 'ge' in her 'Changge' sounds very much like how pigeon will be pronounced in Mandarin.
Not being native a Chinese speaker, I just googled to find how why they used pigeon
She was a 15 year old tomboy who doesn't even know what love is even a boy showed her affection like Shuyu did…
She had to act age-appropriate often time. And as a girl who had no prior behavioral model how to respond when hugged. She did't see any hugging behavior between her mum and dad.
So, the director and his team must have thought through this very carefully. Where exactly she should put her hands, when hugged by AS, at what point of their relationship. Her body posture as well.
For a tomboy pretty much of her life, that 'stiff-doll' response would have been right in the early stages of their relationship.
If we see passionate full body embrace in the early stages, what will be expect for the later stages? Nothing less than the bathtub scene in Eternal Love of Dream would have satisfied viewers

If you felt more 'bromance', it can only mean one thing. Reba nailed her role well. She grew up being tomboy. In one the scene, she even had to ask him if her behaviour was not sufficiently feminine.
But, I will say, by and large, most people here felt lots of romance between the two. That those gazes they gave each other, little touches here and there, and those forehead kisses and the way she responded. That is why ship the GeSun couple so intensely.
Not sure if you are aware. Although no one has actually seen this, but judging from the fact that Leo has never done any mouth-to-mouth kiss in the past, he likely had a no-kiss clause in his acting contract. Without that no-kiss clause, you can be sure, this director would have asked them to perform many mouth-to-mouth kisses or something even more physical than that. He directed Eternal Love of Dream, which Reba also acted, and there were lots bodily contacts there.
Sans those sort of scenes, director had to rely on really good acting on both Reba and Wu Lei's part, to project romantic love. That is how all those micro gestures come about. One needs to really observant, or those gestures can be easily missed. Especially, if we rely on subtitled to follow the conversations between the two
Some humor for us lol, I quite enjoyed those scenes. We've got humour in the show lol.
Plenty. Very strategically planted here and there by the screenwriters and director, and one even by Reba and Wu Lei
They had to do it very carefully, or viewers may think this is a comedy and not a serious show.
It was the pandemic. They were 'trapped' in Hengdian for 4 months. They just wanna have fun, while making a serious drama. The core group of actor/actresses, at least. Those with minor roles, they just came in, do their part and said goodbye
Can someone give me a very good and most recent picture of Leo. Somewhere in the history of comments someone did…
You can just try google. Google his name in your mobile phone. Example Wu Lei Actor. And then click on images. And then top left hand corner, you will see "Latest". You should be able to his latest photos
Sorry. I was assuming you are new. If you are not new, you would already know why this section is so crazy
Indeed TLB has so many fans. Not one or two, but a whole army of totally crazy fans. When some fans got tired of explaining stuff to newcomers, others just keep the ball rolling.
And, every now and then, we will have newcomers joining. And they will start another round of 'crazy' comments.
It is such a crazy phenonmenon, some sociologists might be wiling to come here and study, what made us so crazy?
Does anyone wants talk how Ashile Sun changed his attitude when he met Changge and start to fall in love on her?…
That is true. That is what love can do to a man. Even a very macho man like a grassland general.
By the time the drama ended, I don't think he cared too much about leading the eagles division. Not as much as wanting to be with Changge. If Mujin can take over leadership, he will gladly let him
He would rather follow Changge around, in her next series of adventures. Giving the way he loved her, I see him as an 'obedient' husband, following Changge around. In modern, maybe even as a stay home husband, while a very capable wife is out there working.
still not over my obsession for TLB, watched like half of The Romance of the Tiger and Rose, btw which was really…
Yes. You will discover more plot connection. And many of the observations you made here are very good. Sometimes, when a drama is being screened, we just want to quickly watch it, so that we can get ready for the new episodes, when they are shown. So, first viewing, we just watch quickly.
But TLB is a very complex drama. Every line, every dialogue is so important, every scene so important. If we missed something, the next episode may not make a lot of sense. And because this drama, all the actions are embedded in history. We also need to read more. Even google, to find out the background of some of these characters and deepen our understanding.
So, re-watching will help us understand the drama better and hence appreciate it even more (compared to the first time we watched it).
For dramas with shallow plot or plots which have already been used so many times in other dramas, this is not necessary. You watch it once, and you do not need to watch again, because everything is so simple. You already understand the first time you watch it
Esther, I read your comments and all the exchanges with the others before I make mine. So that I will not jump…
Very good observation. His mother's death freed him the deep attachment he had to the grasslands. Once he was done griefing for her death, he went in search for the other woman he love. He already lost one. He was not about to lose another
And yes, CG's action saved many lives. If she did not intervene, AS's next arrow would have killed Li Simin. The two sides would have fought there and then. And very likely Khan would have won. According to history, at this point in time, Ashile troops were stronger than the Tang army.
She was a 15 year old tomboy who doesn't even know what love is even a boy showed her affection like Shuyu did…
Fairydustpuppy
I fully agree with all your observations. She saw herself as a tomboy. Even at the falling off roof scene, she did not quite fully understand her own response, when he caught her. "Why does my heart flutter?" It was a new feeling, and she still trying to figure out why she responded the way she did
When she left the palace, she was about 15? At the temple, she was about 18? So, during these three years, the feminity in her matured. And it was still maturing. Remember that scene when she ask AS, "Do you mean I am not feminine enough?"

Kayla_21, maybe can spelled her name as "Changge", with a capital "C" ?
Will lead to less confusion.

But Li Simin truly loved Changge's mother. Changge would respond to him positively, since young. So, they had a really good relationship
