It does feel that way. But what we do know: good director, good post production people. Whatever they decide, we can trust them to deliver. We may be watching less episodes, but they could be better quality, a tighter storyline. Lesser episodes also means we have more time to do other stuff that we need to do.
Yes. Shorter episodes just mean this, the director must be really good. Must be able to think what are really necessary, what scenes are not central. Don't even bother to film those.

For stories that are more complex, that needs more than 40 episodes, they will just get around it by splitting it into 2 parts, like what they are doing with TBW.
