This is kind of where I am at the end of episode 2.The show is badly written/acted/directed/costumed/etc. but…
I'm enjoying the acting, and I'm impressed with Jun Seo. Not only is he easy on the eyes, but he also manages to wear those oversized clothes in a stylish way. As you said, he can pull it off

Most of the conflicts in stories, no matter the genre, boil down to stupidity and a lack of communication. If characters would think things through or talk things out, the story would be over before it started

"I'd hope for an affair between the two but our screenwriter is clearly not that creative"

Your panicked reaction to the absence of the "straight" agenda in a narrative hints at a serious deficiency in your imagination department. Imagine a world where everyone is gay? That’s beyond your cerebral capacity. Please admit your creative shortcomings/lack of creativity before pointing fingers at others, especially the brilliant screenwriter who conjured a more colorful world than your bland, cringe-worthy opinions

"In my country that happened and the result was red hot rage and death threats"

Wow, "death" threats over a fictional interpretation is an extreme reaction

To avoid misrepresenting the past and offending those associated with it, I believe the best approach to writing gay historical fiction is to develop new, fictional characters inspired by but separate from real historical figures. They'd be informed by history and not limited by it

Others might disagree with me and choose a different approach. They might explore gay storylines featuring real historical figures, knowing there'd have been (homophobic) backlash even if the characters were fictional

Not every story needs to be a BL, I agree, but I wouldn't complain if they were

There's an abundance of stories about "straight" relationships, superheroes, action-packed adventures, etc, in the entertainment industry, and people produce and consume more

Other genres thrive without exhausting their appeal, why should BL be different? There's no limit to the number of BLs that can be enjoyed

The chemistry between the male leads had the potential to change the course of history

I can imagine how powerful a historical BL/gay story starring them or other seasoned male actors would've been

A historical BL angle would've added another layer of depth and complexity to the story

LGB themes in a historical or present-day context aren't less meaningful, insightful, or thought-provoking than the commentary on history, ruling class, power, poverty, etc
