I wish everyone would stop concentrating on the real life age gap between Pop and Hero. They're both above the age of consent, they work well and look good together and it seriously doesn't bother me. Get over it. The lack of NC and kissing scenes is to be lamented as the kissing in the original Chinese version was integral to how Gu Hai won over Bai Luo Yin. I'm glad the Pailin subplot is done with, the horrid, manipulative, lying girl that she is; I don't like seeing my boys miserable and at odds with each other. Having made up, all we got was hugging and holding hands. That is grossly insufficient as passionate kissing goes to the heart of their love for each other and it's just not there. I hope that will be rectified in the remaining episodes (not enough of them either) but I'm not holding out for it.
I don’t have any beef with the MLs, but I feel like they were miscast, for "technical" reasons. I’m guessing…
The Pailin subplot was in the original Chinese version but due to the series being pulled off air, all we got was her sudden unwelcome appearance at the door of the classroom. Similarly, her counterpart in "Stay With Me'' came and went while causing havoc along the way.
I can't understand why Chihiro got in the car with Mayo who later had him roughed up by his henchman before stomping on his arm. Chihiro's arm heals but Haoren notices that this incident leaves a psychological scar on Chiriho, which leads to his next move - arranging to meet Mayo. My prescient comment of last week was spot-on! It was so satisfying to see that sadistic bastard brutally stabbed by Haoeren no less, even though he didn't die, though news of his death by suicide later was a fitting demise to his miserable life. The boys decide they have to escape, but just as Chihiro thought he and Haoren would stay together, Haoren decides otherwise. Chihiro's devastation by their sudden separation is palpable. Three years pass. Chihiro becomes a successful photographer and Haoren serves time in prison. Upon his release, he discovers that Chihiro has put on an exhibition at which he sees the one blemished photo Chihiro took of him. Leaving it, he goes for a walk and spots Chihiro, who looks up, picks up his camera and photographs him half smiling. Chihiro lowers his camera and smiles broadly at Haoren. All that has passed justifies the title, 'Happy of the End.' Thank goodness.
Lots of suggestions that Khing is sending all the hateful comments about Cake. I hadn't thought of that as she'd acted demure and quiet until the new phone incident with Gina, who took it badly and I'm sure is the person who pushed Cake into the pearl cage. She in particular is toxic and obnoxious and her preening is odious. I'm amazed that Kla was able to be so civil towards them at the hotel. Perhaps Khing still can't accept that Cake chose Kla and not her. After the end credits, there was a scene with Kla and Cake in a swimming pool ending with them kissing under a bridge, then the camera panned to a balcony overlooking it and who should be standing there looking down at them but Khing. At least he and his friends are investigating the source of the messages.
Of more imminent danger to Cake is his friend AF who got him drunk at the party and then took him back to his home, laid him on the bed and proceeded to take off his clothes. Recall that Kla said he would look in on him after he's finished his business so I expect Kla will find AF in flagrante delicto ("while the crime is ablaze") with Cake just in the nick of time.
Phun and Noh have reached the stage where they're asking themselves, how close is close, as new feelings rage inside them. Both have girlfriends who they treat more as friends. Aim, Phun's girlfriend, has her own problems, dealing with a domineering mother who controls her daughter's image and disapproves of her best friend. Noh's parents are fine as is Phun's mother while his sister Pang, a fujoshi, is pushing for him to have a boyfriend and approves of Noh, who meanwhile is relying on Phun to get extra funding for his music club and that can only be achieved if Pang asks their father to support this so Phun and Noh are faking it for her, but increasingly it's becoming not so fake. We'll see how that develops next week.
The boys are cute, especially Kawin, and the storyline was a bit of a mess while some aspects weren't explained properly. It's basically a bit of fluff but it's harmless fun.
I'm glad I watched the first two episodes back to back. Here is another delightful, slightly quirky Japanese BL off to a great start with two deeply contrasting characters as the leads: Shiba, a top lawyer with an icy demeanour and Haruto, an engaging, outgoing, cute guy with an enticing smile, someone who it is difficult to be annoyed with and becomes instantly indispensable. With a subtle use of sound effects, I think this will be lighthearted, more romcom than drama.
There were pluses and minuses with this story. The pluses were the chemistry between the two boys and the passion of the kisses. The minuses were the fact they were fundamentally dishonest with each other, neither declaring their love for each other, Donghee realising he was in love with Hotae and as Hotae said, avoiding him. When they met again shortly after Donghee entered university and stood looking at each other, a slight smile emerging on Donghee's face, that's where the series ended. It leaves the viewer to think that perhaps they would henceforth be honest with each other and become boyfriends, but I would have preferred it continue with 2 more episodes to flesh that out for a more satisfying happy ending.
This is getting better and better. Q was first portrayed as a spoilt brat. Still, we quickly saw beneath the surface that he's undergone some traumatic experiences that have yet to be fully explored and Min, being perceptive and sensitive towards others, understands this and finds himself in the role of comforter, so developing a greater bond between them.
I have watched EP1 as planned, and will go rewatch the original. The actors of that series are young to me, still…
You do realise that Season 1 has 12 episodes and Season 2 has 36 episodes, making it the longest BL series ever made. I do, however, feel a bit the same as you but as this remake settled down, I began to enjoy it more until it reached a satisfying ending marking the beginning where fake becomes reality.
I can see how Sun being so over solicitous can be annoying, on top of which he's escaping his over protective mother. Diew certainly has issues and they were apparent from when he was a child. He's now trying to assert himself and trying to be more independent and I think Sun hasn't fully grasped that (not that he's aware of the mother situation) so it was right that he gently told him in so many words to back off a bit.
Cutting the kiss at the end credits of the final episode is unacceptable and a disservice to viewers who are hanging out for what should have been the best kiss of the series.
You should seriously consider subscribing to Boys Love Factory which shows nearly all BL series and movies right…
Hmm. That was at the back of my mind but I've never investigated it, not that I've even thought of trying. It could also be why the subscription costs are so small. Whatever, it beats using KissAsian.cx (the latest iteration) due to the spam websites that pop up and the difficulty doing simple things like scrolling through a video. The good thing about BLF is that the site is a joy to use, only has BL content with new episodes of series appearing quickly and if there is a problem, once reported it is quickly attended to.
As I began Ep. 6 I felt like I'd missed half an episode but I hadn't. At the end of Ep. 5 they'd moved into a shared dorm and they were just close but suddenly in Ep. 6, they appear to be living in their own condo (or else the villa Pop's mother bought), sleeping together, kissing and Hero is asking Pop when they're going to be boyfriends. Hero's brother came across as a bit weird but similar to his predecessor. As per the original, Pop's ex-girlfriend makes her unwanted appearance and like so many ex-girlfriends lately, can't take no for an answer and wants to do everything in her power to get him back, causing a temporary rift between the boys. (There were also major mistakes in the translation - her for his and girlfriend for boyfriend - which is unforgivable.) Things are not much better between Only and Tiger, the latter trying to stand up to Only but not really succeeding and Only just suffering in silence with Tiger unaware of his unrequited love. Overall I like this adaption with Hero being the standout of all the characters (as Gu Hai was in the Chinese original), but it's not perfect by any means, which I blame on the screenwriters.
