What a sad love story, all about missed timing and connections! It is not enough to find one's true love; you must find him/her at the right place and at the right time.
This will prove to be a cathartic watch for all the survivors, and for those related to the victims of the sinking of The MV Sewol Ferry on April 16, 2014. The ferry, on route from Incheon Port to Jeju Island, had 476 passengers on board including 325 students from Danwon High School.
306 people perished, and 172 survived the tragedy. May the departed rest in peace.
Grief is a terrible process to go through. What we all need to understand is that no two grief experiences or grieving individuals are alike. We need to be sympathetic to those mourning a loved one, and allow them to take all the time they need to do so, as bothersome as it might seem to the rest of us not directly affected by the loss. There are certain things in life that one understands only after you have gone through it.
This will make you cry a lot, so have your tissues ready.
This is a movie about the life-long consequences of the mistakes and choices we make, about the importance of unconditional love, and of having a memory, a place, or a person to turn to for stability, inner peace, and redemption.
Though the title might make you think of the successful horror comedy Pee Mak, this production is not related to it in any way, shape or form, and is not nearly at Pee Mak's level; it seems like a poorly made spoof of sort. The acting was mediocre, the storyline seemed to be all-over the place, and many inferences to Thai urban legends and folklore are hard for non-Thais to grasp. This makes the movie difficult to appreciate.
A certainly quirky film, yet still entertaining. Simon Yam's performance was fantastic, and the role seemed tailor-made for his eccentric personality. One of the main success factors when it comes to cross-country collabs is being able to generate chemistry between actors not speaking the same language; that is not an easy feat. This is decidedly worth a watch, but lower your expectations going in.
In the WTMI Department, I love Ox Penis. Though when in China, they discourage females from eating it as it is a food, which supposedly increases virility in men. They were having Ox Penis Hotpot at 1:01:00.
An arthouse film I happened to enjoy, as it posed certain existential questions, and reinforced many life’s truths.
Hatred begets more hatred; vengeance begets more vengeance; killing begets more killing. The cycle is never-ending, unless one makes the conscious decision to not strike back when stricken. There went another pure soul, lost to the viciously perpetual cycle of killing, or was it? Is Mokunoshin lost, or did he find himself?
4th time is a charm, right? LOL. Forget signing a prenup; I would be scared to go with a guy who had tied the knot thrice before. But hey, who is counting? YOLO!
How did Sam Ching say "Boobs & Kisses" again? "Tamimi Shiu Měiměi" ...Is that it? Please teach me how to say this, in case I come across a handsome guy I would like to pick-up.
I found this to be hilarious, and adored the soundtrack.
Are there any Tokyo-lites here who can further elaborate on the accuracy of the stereotypes about the residents of Saitama and Chiba? I would love to know if any of the claims are true, and to learn more about the social divide existing among the residents of the surrounding cities and those from Tokyo core.
Are there any restrictions of access to public infrastructures, to the healthcare and educational system in Tokyo core if you reside in one of the neighbouring boroughs? Please enlighten us if you know a bit more about this. I would never forget Saitama now, and I am on board with any plans to dominate the world (World Saitamification) all while spreading Family Marts, and Saita-Malaria, LOL.
This was way funnier than the prequel, with the butt-spanking scene et al. Grandma is obviously into bad boys, shipping Shen Ran with her granddaughter while exclaiming: "He is just like your grandfather!" LOL. Was Zhang Shen Ran not breastfed as a child? Getting a nosebleed every time he sees a pair of boobs must be the result of the blood rushing from his upper brain to his lower brain, haha haha!
OK, QUESTION: If you (Paul) start sleeping with the girl (Yang Yang) who used to sleep with your sister's ex-boyfriend (Shen Ran), is that indirectly having sex with your sister? Discuss...
The directing and editing were lacking, so the viewer fails to see and feel the emotional buildup between the leads. I believe the sequel was better made. And who was Daniel Wu's Make-up Artist? That fake beard was atrocious!
- King Eisi: "That is 3 030 men against 80 000." - Ri Shin/Li Xin: "In other words, which is more?"
Haha, haha, haha! Shin never failed to crack me up, and the Queen of the Mountain Tribe could slay! Throughout history, women have always been more fierce on the battlefield than men. Don't believe me? Ever heard of Amazons? Look it up!
Utterly ridiculous yet, I could not peel my eyes away from the screen because I wanted to see how worse things were going to get. Please skip.
Moreover, (my apologies to the actors and actresses concerned) the extent of plastic surgery in this movie was aberrant. Pretty much every face (at the exception of the female lead's) seemed to have somewhat been sliced up by an unqualified back-alley plastic surgeon.
The film featured both my adorable little firecracker, Zhou Dong You, and the extremely talented Ni Ni, so I had to watch it, and I was not disappointed.
I saw this when it initially came out as I seldom miss a Zhang Yimou film, especially if it features Ge You or Gong Li, and this since the mid-90s after watching TO LIVE (which I highly recommend, one of the best and favourite Chinese films of all time). https://kisskh.at/2612-to-live
I recall liking Sacrifice, but I should perhaps re-watch the film to refresh my memory.
Highly recommended.
Nothing extraordinary.

How much weight did Kim Sung-oh lose for this role? He looked scarily terrifying!
An absolute must-see.
A nice action-packed watch and re-watch.
I am a fan of Liu Ye's, and it is always nice seeing his early works and the progressive transformation into the amazing actor he has become.
