It was fantastic seeing Wallace Huo as a villain! Great action flick, which will keep you at the edge of your seat from the opening rock climbing scene until the very end.
Brilliant cinematography, but the discrepancies in the storyline made the film difficult to enjoy. Yin Xiang's initial confusion was understandable, but not being able to tell the two women apart as the film progressed did not hold water. An overall disappointing watch from that perspective.
"Put your hand inside... Lower... Lower. You feel something hard, don't you? Grab it, and pull it out." 'Nuff said Xiao Gong!
And that GHOST (1990) parody scene after the end credits had my panties on the floor, LMBO! Nice rom-com to watch on a Sunday afternoon with your significant other.
Though the leads were easy on the eyes, there was nothing extraordinary about this story. I kept expecting some sort of a twist, which unfortunately never came.
I Will Definitely Be Watching Season 2 Prom Likit (2020), Jao Ka!
Though I have seen historical and contemporary Thai films and a few contemporary drama series, this (if my memory serves me correctly) is my first historical Lakorn. And you know what? It turned out to be quite an entertaining and educative watch, I must say! Many of the characters were based on actual personages as the series delved into Ayutthaya's political history in the last quarter of the 17th century. I did find Episodes 9, 10, 11 dull and incapable to capture my interest, but the storyline picked up again from Episode 12 until the end. Excellent performances by both leads, especially Bella Campen's; great directorial and editing works as well, in spite of the obvious shortcomings with the CGI.
My favourite character (believe it or not) was Nong Prik! She is what we call in French "un mal nécessaire" (a necessary evil). She gossiped, was extremely nosy and mean to most, but she kept that household in check from the lowest of the servants to her masters. I thought the actress portraying Nong Prik and the actor playing Joi (another fave) bore a similar resemblance. I also enjoyed P'Pin & P'Yam's symbiotic relationship with Mae Karakede tremendously.
Many complained about the lack of overt romantic gestures, but courting couples in 1680s Ayutthaya were probably not kissing, let alone tonguing each other left and right. I found the gentle-touching, sensuous breathing down the neck, tender gazes and smiles more historically and culturally accurate.
The BTS were hilarious, and clearly showed the camaraderie between the actors off the screen. Now, to end with a bit of trivia, did you guys know that Faulkon's (Louis Scott) real-life girlfriend is P'Yam? They have known each other for about 10 years, and have been "lao sum pao"/dating/surfing the boat/making love roughly for about 7, haha haha!
I agree 100%. I really feel like this is Deng Lun's representative piece. He proved himself to be a true actor…
"I can't let this drama go... I'm obsessed!" And quite rightfully so, haha haha! This drama deserves that much. In order to help you expand your list of dramas to obsess over, I would like to make a few suggestions if I may:
I had high expectations for this film because of its premise and the cast, but was rather disappointed as it turned out not to be as thrilling as I had anticipated. The good: Yoo Ji Tae can still pull off a great villain. The lesson: If something seems too good to be true, then it probably is. The bad: These types of movies have been made time after time, and this unfortunately had no novelty, nothing to make it impactful, and differentiate it from the rest.
This series is the one, which finally establishes Deng Lun as a true actor in my humble opinion. His performance and that of the rest of the cast were stellar, so so very well done all the way down to Sandra Ma's physical transformation. Outstanding! My favourite characters were Niu Mei Li, Fu Fang Shu, and Bai Jiao Jiao: the little girl is fierce! I loved how this drama gave us a very realistic insight into the lives and struggles of celebrity entertainers. Every minute of this was truly an enjoyable watch, and I highly recommend it.
What happened here? Did the original scriptwriter die midway, or was he/she kidnapped by Bi Dong's sister? What the h*ll! It all started out so well, and just turned into utter nonsense! I sat my butt through it for Yang Shuo's sake... Gosh, the things I do for those dimples! At any rate, the most memorable performance is Sarah Zhao's (Cen Wei); I thought she was superb.
Fast-forward to 30 years from now, and Se-chool and So-hyun are responding to their first grandchild's question about how they met... "Well aga, to make a long story short: it was love at first slap." Haha haha haha!
An excellent production, but an absolute hard-watch. I had a tremendously difficult time as a woman viewing this because of Empress Hoifa Nara (Ruyi)'s plight. No woman deserves to be treated as such.
I tend not to recommend this series for the aforementioned reason, but if you must see it, then prepare yourself for a heartbreaking story and a lot of tears (if you are the crying type).
