I agree. The FL is awful, silly, incompetent, stupid... I love the actress but here her character is not likable…
Whaaa! overrated!? Its soo underrated compare to dramas like Goblin or Scarlet Heart that came out the same year and were considered 'good". Hae young was sooo relatable. I thought she was superficial at first, but as you learn more about her, she actually is really wise and mature( and the most sane out of them all). Everyone around her tries to hide their emotions and be as "normal" as they can be, and give the MFL alot of slack for her shenanigans. The characters around her see's her as loud and dramatic, but they are the ones driving her crazy. Hae young is actually the realist and the only one who tries the hardest to live normally. All of the shit that happens to her is because of all the other Characters in the story who can't face their own demons. They lash out on others and our hae young becomes the collateral damage in the story. She is admirable because she is flawed and accepts it, unlike most, who wants to act like the "pretty" hae young. This drama does such a good job on touching on issues like depression, but also does a good job of making it funny. It was solid gold experience, You need to watch it again.
Plus its one of the dramas that really set the bar for "kiss scenes" in Korean Drama land. Before this drama, it has always been light pecks, but this was the drama that set the bar!

Till this day, this was the only Korean drama to really leave an impression. This drama was SOOO good and iconic, it is a must. The story line was a little confusing, but once you got a sense of what was going on, everything was perfect. The music, cimatagophy, acting and humor about the show made me really care about the story. This was a much better and more fulfilling drama then most k drma people tend to like these days. A guilty pleasure and must watch Korean rom-com.

As someone who's watched the two prequels and is currently watching this drama, I was a bit hesitant because I…
Was actually disapointed in this version for how they portrayed the swords. They looked cheaper and unappealing. It would have been so much better if they did kind of emphasize how the swords seemed supernatural to an extent to the Wulin community. Also there was actually something special about the swords. Not only were they forged from special metal and materials that make them sharp and durable, they also in a sense had a magnetic field around them. The swords were forged from the Gentlemen and Lady Sword ( both described to be black, dull& unsharpened and had a "pull" around them that made them gravitate towards each together in ROTCH). We can assume these swords were made from magnetic metal. If this is true, then it would explain why people in the story believed their was somethings "supernatural" about the Sabre and sword. Imagine you fighting someone' who has a magnetic sword that draws your weapon towards it. Anything that gravitated towards it would ultimately be cut in half, and without a weapon, you be cut down easily.

Can I ask for some advice? Is this drama a standalone or do I need to watch the ones before for context? If that's…
This drama could be a stand alone, but for start it could be way more connected then we assume. If you really want to jump into theories and troupes, I have a theory that Zhao Min is the reincarnation of Guo Xiang( who is the reincarnation of Lin Chao Ying). If you watched ROTCH, you would know who lin chao ying is. This may sound like a stretch but if you pay attention, their are subtle little hints in novel ( and different adaptions in the tribology ) that just scream "YES!" to this conspiracy. It would also add on to the fact that Zhao Min is Guo Xiang's reincarnation. If this theory is true, it would not only make the Tribology an epic Wuxia story but also make the tribology and epic story about story of star crossed lovers.
Each book in the condor hero tribology is supposedly suppose to represent each three of the main religions/teachings in china, Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism. The theme in the first book Legend of Condor Hero encompasses Confucianism, Return of Condor Hero encompass Taoism, and HSDS encompasses Buddhism. Buddhism has a lot to do with Karma and reincarnation, therefore it would further fit the the story of HSDS and makes a good resolve to the Triology.
