I could write a dissertation on this drama in its reflecting the era, the neighborhood, the families and the friendships - not just the main five either, the parents friendships too. It was simply perfection. This is greatest drama I have viewed thus far by miles. Deok Sun was brilliant. Brilliant. And those whining that Jung Hwan didn't end up with Deok Sun, are simply being obtuse. It made perfect sense she ended up with Taek. Taek needed her. It's that simple. Remember Jerry McGuire, Deok Sun completed Taek. For all Taek's genius at Baduk, he was somewhat deficient in many other areas - though he showed he was more astute than we gave him credit for in his talks with Sun Woo. Jung Hwan certainly did more to 'earn' Deok Sun's hand, but yin and yang of life says Deok Sun and Taek were meant for each other. Jung Hwan further showed his worth and his strength by stepping aside for Taek. And that, my friends, is more reason we are endeared to Jung Hwan.
They were all amazing. Not one character, NOT ONE, wasn't worthy of adoration or love. This drama profoundly moved me and will remain in my heart until my last breath.
Ok, um, I always preface this comment with how gals on this site frequently express how dreamy certain lead males are, well I'm here to say...this woman is beyond beautiful. Oh my. Heartstoppingly gorgeous. Amazing.
Very Good. I think there are indeed leaps of faith in the logic and in our main protagonist, but it's to be expected in some ways. I do believe that when it moved to the US, the Caucasian actors were horrible, the script got a bit stiff and the language 'thing' where the Chinese spoke mandarin and whites spoke English was jarring. In other words, it seemed lazy how it was handled, but you just go with I guess.
Still it was very, good and solid. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend at all.
1st full fledged Chinese (not Taiwanese or from Hong Kong) Drama - also not historical which many great mainland Chinese dramas are. I read it was awesome and it looks from these reviews to be awesome...SO AWESOME I'm gonna watch!!
Here's what I just posted on Facebook.
Have you ever watched something and wished that those around you would watch too. That maybe they would see the magic and beauty and be moved the way you were. Here it is...http://kissasian.com/Drama/Starry-Starry-Night
A poignant, Arthouse flick from Taiwan (yes it has subtitles), but it's simply stunning. A coming of age movie were as a 13 year old things go on around you beyond your control and life passes, but while in the moment try to hold on...hold on as tight as you can because it will pass and be gone forever.
I'm just finishing episode 1 and for me it is VERY similar in feel to Sex in the City. Maybe no where as raunchy, but it's vibe and it's obsession with men and sex certainly feels like Sex in the City. I like though. It's energetic and funny. I'll see if it stays good. It's nice have the lead be nearly 40 and adorable. Shinohara Ryoko is beautiful and cute.
Just finished!! Breathtaking!! Charming!!! Adorable!! Ugh, those experiences you don't want to end like Reply 1988...never wanted it to end!! Everyone should check this out! Only 2 episodes. Just under 2 and a half hours. You won't regret it.
My pleasure. I think I offer a rather unique perspective since I never read anyone else express anything like what I did. I'm no writer so don't expect excellent prose, but hopefully I get my point across. I do hope you give it a read. I think way too many are far too critical over the wrong things with it.
It's my intention to import on DVD!! It's beyond special. Perhaps the greatest experience I've had in viewing be it TV or movies. It's that astonishingly perfect.
I bought the soundtrack on iTunes. Listen to Reply 1988 (Original Television Soundtrack) by Various Artists on @AppleMusic. https://itun.es/us/J_8oab
So Jin 'Everyday with You' gorgeous. Can't get enough. Great soundtrack.
I've watched 1988 and 1997. I'm watching 1994 now. We know what make up can do to change the looks of these KPOP stars and Drama stars, but HAIR!! Oh my!! Look how old and different Il Hwa looks in 1988 versus 94/97!! Anyway, she is so amazing!! I am totally in love with her!!! She is so pretty, gorgeous beautiful!!
