Title Bad Buddy
Cos that's art💯💖 Have you seen Your name engraved herein?
I know this is really late but please give Your name engraved herein a chance. This is the first time I’ve ever seen someone criticize the acting for that incredible movie. Some have some issues with the characters but I’ve literally never seen criticism for the acting until now. I guess there’s a first for everything lol. It’s truly an incredible movie I’ve watched it so many times.

On Shards of Her Apr 18, 2023
I watched this weeks ago but I still can’t forget about this drama. The character of Lin Chen Xi seriously touched me so much. Her story & her pain. My heart hurt for her so much. The part where her father is telling her she’s lying and it didn’t happen & it’s all in her head. Like the betrayal and the pain she must of felt. Just the fact that she is alive is a testament to her strength!

I wish all victims of trauma & abuse had a Li Hao Ming in our life. His patience and his willingness to improve so he can be a better partner for her. I don’t think men like that exist in real life lol. & the fact that even in her dissociative state he was still the hero in her story. I also love that this drama showed her going to therapy & doing the work to be better before getting back into her relationship.

Sexual violence does not only affect one person. As we saw everyone in Lin Chen Xi’s life was affected in some way by that event. The last episode monologue was so healing to me. I hope all people that have been affected by trauma are able to find peace.

Lastly, the acting was superb Tiffany Hsu is such a talented actress & her younger counterpart was phenomenal.

Title Soulmate Spoiler
Usually I try not compare adaptations but soulmates is one of my faves. In my opinion the Chinese version is better. Zhou Dongyu and Ma Sichun were Ansheng & July. They really embodied their role so much so they even became close friends after the movie. The Chinese version really did well with establishing the characters. Both Ansheng & July felt like real people with real faults. Their love for each other, their jealously all felt so real! In the Korean version the characterization really falls flat for me. The emotions just didn’t really translate. Also, Zhou Dongyu and Toby Lee had wayyy more chemistry than Kim Dami & Byun woo seok. From their very first meeting you could tell that Su Jia Meng had fallen in love with Ansheng & likewise. And when they meet again it’s the film does so well showing their complicated feelings. Like even though they only had a few scenes together the audience clearly felt the tension between them. The Korean version just didn’t capture any of that at all. Like i didn’t feel anything from their characters. In summary watch the Chinese version lol.

Title Till the End of the Moon Spoiler
This is the point where I stopped reading the novel lol because Susu reasoning did not make sense to me. Basically her mission is to destroy the evil bone from TJ so why would she be trying to get away from him? Leaving him would be too much of a risk especially since he has demonic powers now. Does she feel betrayed by him therefore decides to do something illogical? Then that means she has a little feeling for him outside of her duty? But it seems they’ve change a few things so we will see how things pan out in the upcoming episodes.

This drama JUST started and already people are trying to compare? I hate that type of mentality, there's room…
I agree. To me the comparisons aren’t necessary especially when they’re being used to put down the opposing drama and characters/ actors! I think both works are examples of the best of the xianxia genre. Unique storytelling, complex characters, innovative design/costumes & incredible CGI!

It’s a sign of immaturity when you have to put something down to praise another thing. I loved LBFAD and I love this so far as well. Both in my opinion were done exquisitely! I think both works are different & one is not above the other.

I digress, I loved these episodes. I really like Susu and I love how they’re depicting her contradictory nature towards TJ. She was like this in the novel as well. I also really like what we’re seeing from him honestly I thought he was too evil in the novel lol. I really did not like him. But I feel so much sympathy and affection for him now it must be Luo Yun Xi’s effect lol. I’ve always enjoyed Bai Lu’s acting & especially the characters she plays. Susu is really relatable in her actions & I think they’re doing a good job portraying her inner conflict. I’m not going to lie I was skipping the scenes with the second leads lol I can’t get enough of the mains. Can’t wait until tomorrow!!!

I’m glad I’m not the only one obsessed. My favorite scene is the “lighter exchange scene”. Something about that scene is so *chefs kiss*. & Jae Wons reaction was so good lol like my boy was about to risk it all. It’s like jihyun purposefully gave him the lighter so he’d remember him. Time to watch for the 3rd time!

WALNUT SCENEEarly in the movie, Birdy performed a bunch of quirky, whimsical gestures around Jia-han to impress…
Songs play an important role in this movie, as unspoken love between same-sex lovers can only be communicated through songs at that time. There are three main songs in this film. The other two songs, "This World" ("ElE F") by Tsai Lan-chin and "Crowded
Paradise"" ("擁擠的樂園") by Bobby Chen
are actually classics from that era. In this movie, "The World" is especially important because it is the love song that Birdy gives Jia-Han. On their trip to Taipei, Birdy picks this song from the music player and says it is a gift for Jia-Han. This song appears four times in the film, indicating Birdy's love, which can not be told. It is actually a very popular song among the gay community at that time, giving many hopes with its encouraging lyrics:
Our world is not as bad as you said
So why do you still sign?
With your care and all your love
Let's add some beautiful colors to this world.

A lot of scenes in this film are ambiguous and like some viewers kind of went over my head at first but this is…
WALNUT SCENE
Early in the movie, Birdy performed a bunch of quirky, whimsical gestures around Jia-han to impress him. My favourite example was when he sneaked into Jia-han's bed in the middle of the night to share walnuts with him. This scene came right after the two of them witnessed their classmate being gay-bashed, so you'd think Birdy would take extra precautions around Jia-han. Instead, Birdy was as bold as ever, literally climbing into bed with Jia-han without a care in the world. He wanted to be with Jia-han in this moment, and nothing was going to stop him.
What I liked about this scene was the intimacy between the two characters: "Those sounds, on such a quiet night, sounded like heartbeats." At this point, they weren't physically affectionate with each other yet, but you can definitely see the two of them growing closer together.

JUKEBOX SCENE
I call this the jukebox scene because it's the easiest reference, but I want to discuss the entire segment where Birdy was opening up to Jia-han. This happened right after they witnessed the LGBT protester get arrested on the bridge, and Birdy seemed really shaken by the incident. Take a look at some of his dialogue afterwards:
* "What would you do if I died?"
* "Nobody understands me in this world."
* "Sometimes, I feel like one of those useless people."
Up until this point, we knew Birdy more through his actions than his words. This was the first time we see an introspective side of him, and his thoughts were a lot more morose than you'd expect. You can tell Birdy wanted to have a serious conversation, but Jia-han was so happy about them spending time together that he couldn't pick up on the hints.
This was also the scene where Birdy confessed his feelings for Jia-han, but in a really coded way. Listen to the part when he quoted the literature: "If what you give me is the same as what you give to others, then I don't want it." Isn't this a very academic way of telling somebody that you want to be more than just friends with him?
Of course, his confession completely flew by Jia-han's head. You can even see Birdy's expression falter when Jia-han didn't respond appropriately. In this scene, you can tell Birdy was testing the waters and tried to open up about his real feelings. Sadly, Jia-han was clueless and just wouldn't reciprocate.

CINEMA SCENE
The scene where Birdy and Jia-han explored the cinema booth was beautifully shot. I loved the lighting and the scene composition, especially when they were performed shadow puppets on the screen. This scene also featured some great character development, and we learned about Birdy's aspirations of becoming a filmmaker.
"Don't you think things are more fun in the movies than in real life?" A seemingly innocuous comment from Birdy, but it's tinged with sadness if you look closer into his words.

BALLOON SCENE
After Birdy got attacked by Jia-han's friends (note to Jia-han: get better friends), this marked a pointed change in their relationship. At this point, Birdy knew their love would never be accepted by society, which meant pursuing a romance would be dangerous for both of them. It was only a matter of time before the homophobes shifted their attention to Jia-han himself, and he'd be the new target of abuse. To protect Jia-han's safety, Birdy decided that he must put a stop to their relationship.
The balloon scene was Birdy's most obvious attempt at sabotaging their relationship. He took Jia-han's coded love confession and put it on the balloon, but pretended he was delivering this message to Ban-Ban instead. Of course, Ban-Ban had no idea what the hell this coded message meant. All she saw was a large colourful balloon in the air and thought it was a grand demonstration of love! 😍
But for Jia-han, the meaning was clear: Birdy rejected his confession by declaring his love to another girl instead. It was like the ultimate slap in the face for poor Jia-han, to have his own words be used against him.

THE SCENE WHERE BIRDY VISITED JIA-HAN'S PARENTS
Unfortunately, the drama continued after the shower scene, as Birdy went back to putting up a facade again. His latest strategy was to simply avoid Jia-han altogether. No matter how hard he tried though, Jia-han was relentless in his pursuit, and won't give up on his feelings for him.
In a desperate move, Birdy visited Jia-han's parents, thinking the pressure from his family would help to cool down their relationship. What Birdy underestimated was the extent of Jia-han's love for him. Pushed to the edge, Jia-han was totally ready to come out to his parents, not giving a damn if anybody knows he's gay. (Of course, Jia-han's mom had known about their relationship already and was totally down with the pride parade, hehe. 🏳️‍🌈)
Coming out was a bold and uncharacteristic move for Jia-han, who had typically backed down from taking a stand. It just goes to show you how far Jia-han would go, even to the point of risking the relationship with his family, in order to pursue his feelings towards Birdy. Jia-han was willing to risk and lose everything in his life for him. Sadly, Birdy didn't have the same courage.

On Your Name Engraved Herein Mar 23, 2023
A lot of scenes in this film are ambiguous and like some viewers kind of went over my head at first but this is a movie that requires multiple re-watches. Character motivations and intentions aren’t spoon-fed to the audience, they are there but very vaguely. However, a large reason for my new understanding of this film is because of this blogs analysis. They explain a lot of the scenes; that after reading comments left many people confused. I’ll be sharing some of their analysis below & also linking/crediting the author as well. This is now one of my favorite films, I hope this helps someone.

“When I watched, "Your Name Engraved Herein" again, I had a much better viewing experience with some context in mind. During the rewatch, I paid closer attention to Birdy's character and I finally understood his motivations. Birdy did such a good job at hiding his feelings from Jia-han that he managed to fool the viewers as well. Once you see the story from his perspective, Your Name Engraved Herein feels a lot more coherent as a movie, and you'll start appreciating many of its intricate nuances (blwatcher.com).”

Yes I totally agree. The first part of this was so intriguing & the cinematography was really good so I was oooh this might become a favorite of mine. But yeah the story was really lacking.

Title Love Catcher in Bali Spoiler
I think the 3 money catchers are: Hyojin, Seongyeon & Seungbeom.
Due to some evidence people have found on twitter im pretty sure HJ is a money catcher. & SY has to be a money catcher lol that’s the only way I can rationalize her actions because the cringe factor is like 1000 lol. & SB is self explanatory imo

I love TE & SR wow their chemistry is on fire & I love the way he looks at her lol. They’re the only interesting couple right now unfortunately for me though.

Can someone recommend me a Japanese drama to watch after finishing this? Other than those on recommendations.…
My recommendations aren’t drama’s but movies; Orange, Your eyes tell, Us and them and Josee the tiger and the fish (Japanese version). They give off the same vibes I think of this drama.
