Honestly, I hope his half-brother changed for the better if it's the same mysterious guy on the yacht (or the mysterious guy turns out to be someone else, who's a good person). For just one reason: he's hot and I don't want to hate someone hot. Forget defending him, it'll be hard to defend myself for liking him. I blame the casting director, how am I supposed to not like He Liao Lu Yun?
Edit: nevermind, now that I think about it, it seems unlikely that the mysterious guy is his half-brother because he was playing with a can the same way Fei Ke does and I don't think he taught his brother that. His surname is also different. His brother could've changed his name after getting caught for better anonymity in the future, but why would he change his surname though?
I don't think the problem is li Qin, I think it's just the way her character is written that makes it uninteresting
After finding out what Fan Xian did to her brother in the first season, she goes through a complex arc where she struggles between revenge and understanding/forgiveness. Her romance with him also takes a huge toll, because the Emperor of Northern Qi, Si Li Li and Haitang Duoduo try to get him through, well, quite immoral means (drugs and SA, Emperor did it, the other two were accomplices)... That's honestly why I get their choice of the main and only FL being Lin Wan'er, she isn't the most interesting but she never went this far. I actually like her. There was also Shi Shi, his servant who ends up as his lady in waiting, she was well-liked by the fans of this novel but she was completely removed in the drama lmao.
I would highly recommend the OG version. The special edition is like reading a short summary, you'll miss out…
They've released about 18 episodes so far and episodes 19-21 are going to air soon iirc. I'm not really sure about the rest though, but I think they'll do it before season 2 drops.

Actually it's not, JOL is a trilogy so there'll be an another season. It's still worth it though, it's one of the most cleverly written, well-balanced cdramas that plays with multiple genres (comedy, historical, political, low fantasy/wuxia) and does them justice.
I'm new to this drama. Should I watch this first or should I watch the OG version before watching season 2?.
I would highly recommend the OG version. The special edition is like reading a short summary, you'll miss out on a lot of hilarious scenes, character arcs, and everything else that makes JOL so loveable. Like the user above said, it's for viewers who have already seen the drama.
I haven't really forgotten the main plot points (because I've been reading the novel) but I'm curious to see the added scenes so... Welp, here I go again.

Exactly. I've read the novel and her character is the same, it always seems a bit simple in comparison to his other love interests but she became a lot more interesting in the latter chapters.
