Also, I'm really surprised at Zhou Yiran's Japanese. Did she actually learn it in the past? She ALMOST sounded like a native at times, especially when she spoke whole sentences. She had slight accent in some scenes though, but it was mostly when she was shown learning it or struggling with it. Either she practised a lot for this role or she was already familiar with the language.
China makes such dramas for a while now , there was the light series that were similar to this one
I've already seen the light on series; the Bad Kids, Gold Panning, and The Long Night are my favourite ones. That's why I said they need to make more because I've ran out of them lol. I don't find the light on series and Regeneration the exact same though, the orchestral musical score of Regeneration is something I've rarely seen in dramas. It reminds me more of classical mystery movies, like the 1974's adaptation of Murder on the Orient Express or even slightly Sherlock Holmes in a way.

Indeed, plus they're more well-known among the general audience and who wouldn't want to be a household name? My mother knows actors such as Zhou Xun, Lei Jiayin, Nini and even Boran (because of his Monster Hunt movies, she really liked the baby monster in it lol), she doesn't know any of the current idol actors. I personally consider it an achievement of its own when people who aren't affected by hype, don't stay online enough to see someone's face plastered everywhere, still know and remember your name. That's the most authentic type of popularity.

Hoping Naran actually gets casted. I loved her in fengshen and apparently, because of that movie, she wasn't allowed to take on any other roles to 'keep up the mystery'... Which means she wasn't able to act in anything else for entire 6 years until that movie released. I wish her well because she did Su Daji justice and her mandarin is great for someone who isn't even chinese (plus she mastered it in just 8 months), may she have a stable career and continue to receive more good roles. Exactly. I'll never get people who think that just because someone isn't an idol actor, they aren't successful or are going through a flop phase when it's the other way around lmao. Movie actors have longer, more stable careers than majority of the new faces who'll be forgotten once the hype is over.
