I haven’t started this yet, I am really hoping this was going to be tropey nonsense free, the clips I have seen…
I’m also in my late 30s, and I’m loving everything about this drama and the nice comfortable pace so far. Highly recommend you give it a try! I think it’s hard to avoid certain tropes in historical dramas. I like the execution of all the details and storytelling here. I don’t need flashy out of this world concepts to catch my attention, but just the ordinary yet captivating lives of Song Dynasty humans is enough. :)
I love the scenes of our main leads talking in a little boat on a river. It’s like one of their favorite date spots. Their conversations are so natural and respectful and full of understanding. I wish there were cute little shaded boats like that here in DC. I’d go there with my husband for a date 😄
Where can I buy those delicious and pretty looking pastries? I want to eat them with tea! Anyone know?? Are there good brands that I can find online or at Chinese supermarkets!
And those earrings and hair accessories… I just love the styling so much too! 😍
Episode 25 - just finished and it was so good to see story development for Sanniang. I absolutely loved the scene of her riding in the boat while Du is running along the river side. I was worried he would fall into the water again. I’m excited to see their relationship develop! Her speech at his academy was so touching also!
The fight scene on the boat was so intense and it was like a one man fight against the highly trained imperial guards. GQF is really skilled to be able to take them head on. Everything was filmed really well and I was on high alert to make sure I don’t miss anything.
Wonder what will happen to the office of imperial guards and what GQF whispered to Chen Lian’s ears.
Ahhhh the emotions and music and shaky screens during ZPE’s sorrowful scenes were done so well too. Did you guys notice how during those scenes, some frames were also diagonal. Almost like the world was getting upside down for her. Whoa….
The loud annoying guard dude is just no. Why is he there? He’s not funny; just loud and stupid. Acting like…
Yea, he can be kind of annoying but I do like some of his scenes especially where he accidentally defended ZPE against another set of guards. 😂 and when he got into a petty fight with GQF and was surprisingly smart enough to not reveal GQF’s Xiao identity to the public. I like his sidekicks more than him. He Si can be adorable.
Wow, Yinzhang has one positive night and feel that she is Queen. Everytime I start to believe in her she slips…
It’s so real for me to see Yin Zhang scenes. I know a friend that became so big in his head once he started getting recognition/famous. Now he is unrecognizable and it’s so sad for me to see him abandon his original motive and friends, just to follow his greed for power and money and high class lifestyle, looking down on others. I hope he turns around. I’m rooting for Yin Zhang to overcome and mature and develop!
