Just started last nigh. So far so good. If you like palace drama with all of its harem and politic, then you might want to try this one.

Episode 4 is nothing compared with episode 9-11 .....
But, you will be able to appreciate Cheng Yi acting in those episodes. I say he exudes more pain in that 3 episodes than in L&R.

I watched from Kissassian. By the time I am writing this, they have uploaded until episode 12.

In my opinion, it was not she held back but she acted reserved. Because this is a Palace drama and she acted as a princess. There is etiquette that she must follow even though they love each other.

Starting from episode 10, she and Cheng Yi mainly acted with their eyes. So far, I see that she is able to produce the sad nuance that very much complement the one exuded by Cheng Yi. I haven't felt annoyed (like the one I have felt when I watched L&R) when I watched them acted in angst scene either alone or together.

Watched until episode 11. Will continue later on since this already past midnight in my timezone. First impression:
1. The introduction part is so fast pace. I haven't got my feel with their parents death and we already moved to the next arc.

2. The drama give me Nirvana in Fire vibe. Cheng Xiu here is reminded me of young Lin Shu and Xiao Ping Jing. I think Cheng Xiu will get much better in military later on.

3. Cheng Yi acting amazed me again. Wow, in angst moment episode 10-11, his anguish was so heartwrenching. His crying while drinking wine in the beginning of episode 11 is ..... (I have no word). He really didn't afraid of crying ugly there.

4. Female lead acting is satisfying this far. So far she successfully showed the complicated feeling felt by Ming Yu. I hope I would not end up hating her character later on. Her story reminded me The Story of Yanxi Palace (I was annoyed with the female lead character there).

5. The King really need to die soon. I hope his guilt will eat him up, along with that wife of his.

6. I dread the moment when the female lead get pregnant. Sigh, if I was her, the first thing I will do is drinking poison to ensure my womb is sterile. She should have known that her current husband is a suspect in killing her lover mother. Bearing a child to such a man should made her feel disgusted.

Oh? I honestly think the female lead did a very good job here. I have watched up to episode 10 and her expression was very good. I felt her pain when she had to proceed with the marriage.

Not necessarily. Bai Lin could get that position by merit instead, or power. Xi Xuan perhaps is the successor for the heavenly emperor sit. But with heaven prejudice toward demon, he most likely is ostracized while in heaven so he mainly kept to himself. GOW perhaps his first and only friend in heaven.

Well, if the story is to be continued, pretty sure he would be the successor after his 10th live as mortal. He single-handedly cleaned after the esteemed Bai Lin Di Jun mess, bringing up peace in 3 realms in the end by appeasing the anger of both GOW and LHJD. Don't think there is a greater merit than that.

Also, I have suspicion that the heavenly emperor in a way let everything happen to teach the heaveners too, to let go their prejudice towards demon by showing that their own kind (Bai Lin) could act much worse that those of demon. After Bai Lin death, the heavenly emperor more or less let out an order to prevent any heaveners kill demon indiscriminately.

Xi Xuan is indeed the son. But I doubt Bai Lin. There was not even one comment from heavenly emperor or others that showed that Bai Lin had some relationship with the heavenly emperor.

I even has the feeling that Xi Xuan is the only living kin of heavenly emperor.

Yes, this is plausible. I somehow feel Xi Xuan is somewhat a reclusive when in heaven. So people don't know him. But luckily, unlike Run Yu, his father seems to be quite doted on him.

By the way I cannot find the scenes when Bai Lin said that Xi Xuan mother treated badly in heaven ....

It is Si Feng father for me. His love to his son was very touching.

I notice something. If Xi Xuan mother is Demon Princess, then her father is the Demon King?! And since she was told be Golden Winged demon, did this mean that Golden Winged bird was the royal demon clan?

In episode 31 (after Ting nu healed Si Feng), the way they talked about Golden Winged bird was as if this clan was somewhat important in the war 1000 years ago.

I agree. I have posted before (lost in sea of comments, though) that the way Xi Xuan saved GOW was by let her pour her anger to him. In other words, let her bit on him as hard as she wants however long she wants. Xi Xuan showed her love and sincerity until the point of death multiple times, because it was exactly what it would take to appease GOW anger. Bai Lin had this narrow minded view that everything could be shoved under the rug through forced obedience.

The drama, in my opinion, already gave ample of chances for Xuan Ji character to repent in episode 48-53 to satisfy the audiences that felt heartache for Si Feng. However, I think the actress failed to capitalize those moments into their fullest. While Cheng Yi already showed Si Feng suffering to that high level.

Yuan Bing Yuan acting was not that bad actually. But in this story, when the male lead acting was that heartwrenching, she could not help but be compared and deemed as lacking.

Unlike some people, I actually like the drama give the male lead more suffering scenes than in the novel. Because it shows the magnitude of GOW resentment, her pain, and what it takes to appease her. I can feel that the drama want to show how love triumphs all. Episode 48 onwards should be GOW redemption arc. How she finally surrendered herself to Si Feng love and let go her grievance since the love she received and felt are much bigger than her previous pain. All of this already in the script, just failed to be showed 100% on screen in my opinion.

How true! He looks sooo handsome as Xi Xuan. The gentle aura in Xi Xuan is rather different from Si Feng, but very compelling regardless

Oh, I see. Hahahaha! I perhaps will only speed watching Maiden Holmes since from the clips that I have watch, story and acting are too far compared with L&R. With L&R still so fresh in my mind, I am lacking a tolerance for a simple drama for now.

Hahahaha!! That little monologue spoke volume on how Ling Long really realized her mistake on doubting Si Feng. That she now could bring herself to care about the golden bird demon clan feeling when they visited Shao Yang

Unlike Si Feng father who only cared about his son well being, Xuan Ji father care too much about his own face. Lots of his action toward Xuan Ji (after Xuan Ji was known as GOW) stemmed from his desire to contribute to the righteous sects creed than from a father simply want to protect his daughter.

This is a character that remain un-redeemed in my eyes until the end. His acceptance to Si Feng in the end seemed to be forced by situation and fact shoved to his throat than by sincerity.

Good thing, Xuan Ji was married out. She saved Si Feng and her future children of having to deal too much with Shao Yang and her lots. Better be with Li Ze Palace people. Pretty sure they would adore the woman who still chose their Chief despite he was a demon and she was a human.

My thought exactly. Sincerity is best shown in perilous time. In the end, pretty sure Xuan Ji father already knew who Si Feng really was (his other identity in heaven and all his background). In a way, if the heavenly father approved the relationship, then who was Chu Lei to disapprove?! So Xuan Ji father blessing to their marriage in the end felt so biased. Would he still approve if Si Feng was just a simple demon? I am not sure.

My heart broke for Si Feng in episode 54. The cold shoulder he got in Shao Yang was too much. Fortunately Xuan Ji was with him and assured him of her intention. Xuan Ji character really showed development there. From someone who let herself get influenced by others so easily, now she is firm in her desire.

It is a very plausible guess because the time of airing is exactly the same as the day when L&R ended. It didn't seem to be a coincidence. Moreover, The Promise of Chan'An filmed earlier than L&R but no yet released. Perhaps at that time, they didn't have high hope for the drama to be successful.

It certainly looked like they had been traveling a lot during Si Feng coma. Pretty sure in the beginning, they were in Shao Yang (I am quite certain Si Feng was in Xuan Ji bedroom). And then she brought him to places. Perhaps she thought that being in certain places holding their memory could somehow fasten his recovery.

Woah, 32 episodes released in the first week? Great!! My pain would not be prolonged.
