Half tempted to watch this movie raw because I can't find it with subtitles T_T If anyone finds a subbed version I would love you forever.

The original content is from a BL novel called The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation (which is such a good book) but the drama itself is censored. I don't think I would consider it as a soft gay story so much as a subtle romance with a great plotline and impactful relationships. The romance in it is just icing on the cake that is The Untamed. ^^

Are you talking about Wangxian? Wangxian is the song that Lan Wang Ji sings for Wei Wuxian in the cave and it often plays in their moments together.

I was reading an article that said the mountain received a lot of Untamed fans hiking up to see where the scene was filmed. I would love to as well, it looks beautiful .

The wuxia genre might not be for you xD Fifty episodes is actually pretty standard if not on the low end for the genre. There is the 20 episode version, but it misses a lot. If you're feeling the need to skip that might be the way to go if you ever want to try it again. It looks like, and don't quote me on this, the last episode is located in the previously abandoned mountains in the city of Buyun in Guizhou, China. :)

It's merely the implication that something could allow an avenue for progress. They don't want to move forward with content so they suppress everything that might give it a chance. Yeah, we'll see. Hopefully it's just a rumor.

Of course. ^^ There's absolutely nothing wrong with BL elements. I would highly suggest giving it a try and seeing how you feel about it. If you don't feel strongly about it, that's okay too. :)

Not sure yet, we'll have to wait and see. The censorship in China is very finnicky and too much acclaim for something that's on the fence can sometimes be banned unfortunately. They do willfully ignore some of the fanfic sites and there is a huge BL community in China, but the government itself is pretty strict.

I thought it was a really nice and subtle touch. ^^

I'm obviously not okay with it either but there is unfortunately nothing I can do about it. The only thing I can do is enjoy a work by itself. I disagree in the way that I think the actors in this drama really brought the relationship to life on the screen, but to each their own. :)

Ah, gotcha. That understandable. This series isn't for everyone.

I've been a fan of BL for about nine or so years, and I was initially hesitant to watch this because of the censorship. However for me the story really ticked all the boxes. I didn't feel the need for kisses between the two because the connection was so well portrayed. I really think the only difference between this and the original work would be the spicy scenes. In my opinion the thing that makes a good BL story is the relationship and chemistry, not really the kisses and touches. I think I've felt more from wangxian then some outright BL's if I'm quite honest. Besides that, this is just a nicely done story. I'm not even sure this qualifies as a BL story, but more so a complex drama with subtle romance in it.

I have watched quite a few censored dramas and most of them are actually quite good despite trying to sell it as bromance. I think it's just all up to the actors and the viewers perception.

I'm genuinely curious, do you not like the Chinese adaptations just because there isn't any clear BL?

I would assume so since they can't possibly ban it on all platforms. I would think it would just be blocked in China.

I have watched that edit at least five times already, it's so good. Coldties always pulls through on the BL content.
