Title Queen Mantis Spoiler
So, let's talk about the real killer.
Or, maybe … the wife?

I mean, why would they cast an expensive actor like her the role is insignificant?

Which means, her character is actually important.

2. Who was it that his best friend tried to be with? The wife's friend.
3. How come the suspect was already inside the ML's best friend's workshop? Because the suspect already knew him.

1. Son. It's understandable why he is acting high and mighty to his mother, why he is filled with bitterness,…
They want to show the different flaws of humanity, they ended up with characters that are too flawed, they no longer exist in real life.

And yet there is one character, practically sitting all the time, and she is the only one that actually exist in the real world.

You can't make characters too flawed just as you can't make characters flawless.

Right now, everyone except for Queen Mantis, are too flawed. The only balanced character is Mantis.

Title Queen Mantis Spoiler
The only real person here is Queen Mantis. All the other characters are fakes.
1. Son. It's understandable why he is acting high and mighty to his mother, why he is filled with bitterness, why he is in denial, why he is always angry.

But when it comes to the his team who is (a) always undermining him; and (b) never truly want to work with him, he did what? Nothing. All his bravado, all his high and mighty attitude, all his "I'm better than you and I'm always right", is nowhere.

He's a Team Leader. He also outranks them, but he is a complete pussy.

That female detective made two major mistakes. He never said a word.

Fatso is always disrespectful. He acts like he didn't hear or know.

That's not how a real person acts. Especially not within a hierarchical system.

2. Department chief. What is he? Decoration? LMAO. His underlings are overlording him?

Chief Decoration!

3. The team members. Seriously? At least two characters are vocal about their insubordination and disrespect but nothing is done about it? Where in the world can you do that?

You can't do that even in a gang. You can't do that inside the prison.

You can't do that in school.

And they're supposed to be detectives! Are that female detective and that fatso a product of connections? They both got their position not because of merit?

- Insubordination
- Two major fuck ups
- Secretly digging up dirt just because they don't like their team captain, not because there is a valid reason
- Overlording their department chief. Oh wait, I forgot, he's an office decor only.

Always whining about how their job is to save victims. Dude. Your job as detectives is to catch criminals before they commit their next crime. Concentrate on that. Leave the saving the victims to the regular police and SWAT, that's their job.

You are not a detective if the criminals are free to find their next victim, and all you can do is try to save them. And they die anyway, so you really saved no one.

Title It's Okay!
The film reminded me of the days when I still believe in achieving your dreams.
Once you are #Forever28 everything changes. You learn contentment. You discover that happiness lies with simply being alive. You stop believing in dreams. You just live and enjoy whatever comes to you.

But when you're a teenager, the world is a mystery. You have very colourful and grand dreams. You have the drive to achieve those dreams. To fight for it no matter what.

That was what IRe's character represented. A teenager whose dreams were almost destroyed after the universe threw forced her to become an adult early. She learned to be happy with what life throws at her. She learned that being alive is itself more than enough.

But her close encounter with her mentor put a stop to it. She encouraged her to fulfill her dreams. To fight for it. And her mentor was right. Once you embrace adulthood, things will change. Dreams will no longer matter.

If it doesn't work, the important thing is you tried instead of giving up because life wants you to become an adult already. No regrets.

IRe's character is that person. No regrets. She almost embraced adulthood but she was protected by an adult who cares.

I hope, like me, you saw these things as well, dear reader. If you're #Forever28 too, it also reminds us that we should help protect teenagers from facing adulthood earlier than they should.

We all know how once we're adults, we will no longer be able to come back to the days when we were teenagers filled with dreams.

Dreams. They are precious. It defines the rest of our mortal life. Protect it.

Released in 2023. So, they filmed this in 2021 or 2022 and IRe was only 16 or 17 then.

Her role is a school kid who was forced to become an adult, and she did well in portraying that. She already showed signs of improvement in her acting. Her expressions were already controlled.

So, this was the project where she improved her craft. If I'm not mistaken, she's the youngest in the cast. Her co-star (SuBin) is almost 10 years her senior, not to mention SeoYun. They probably helped her a lot.

The greatest thing here was this film was obviously made for IRe in mind. It's rare to see the youngest talent, and one that still need more experience, exposure, and improvement, to take on a leading role with older and veteran actors in the cast.

They trusted IRe and she delivered.

That explains why her role in Shin's Project / New President Project is so perfect. This was that project that taught her a lot and helped her improve by leaps.

She is no longer a teenager learning to act and gathering experience. She no longer need to take on kid-like, bratty girl, roles that sometimes exaggerates her expressions and acting. She's better. Far better.

We truly have a Best Actress in the making here. I for one will definitely cheer and root for her. Keep it up IRe. I want to see you win Best Actress within the next 10 years.

Ahh! Yeah, far away. There are plenty of Filipinos there too. Many are hopeless romantics, but of course not everyone are "good". Many are.

The thing about us, culturally we were raised to respect and protect women, elders, and kids. There are bad ones, but generally good ones. We were originally a matriarch culture, it changed during the colonial era. But the values remained.

Just have the identify those with good upbringing and not too sensitive about things like accompanying their partner to women's stores. πŸ˜† I really don't understand that "you're not macho if you're seen there". But, regardless, Filipinos are sweet. And if you found a gem, you'll probably want to divorce them later because they're still sweet. 😜 (I know some who are like that, their husband still act as if they are still bf/gf.)

Haha, yep. Different stories. But the FL in both was played by YoonA and they ironically have similar tastes and ties.

Found him! Joel de la Fuente, he played Morales in Law and Order SVU, lol. Not sure why that stuck with me he…
Wow! That is why!

Disney sure did up the stakes. 😁 Netflix must be having a meeting to do the same.

Normally, we only see this level of multinational prod in movies. They sure did change the game.

And, yeah, I haven't seen Jacob either. Maybe in the next episodes? LOL, I can't wait what other surprises they have.

Same. The "mistress" is not easy. If she's Stella, it means she's been in Korea for at least 10 years.…
Yep, he was targetted. But it's odd because Stella is supposed to be a US asset.

Maybe they already knew John's character is close to an Assemblyman and wants to keep tabs if they're sharing information?

And the moment he was contacted, that was when they labeled him a spy? And it was Stella/mistress who filed the report? Probably even orchestrated the assassination?

From the looks of it, they did work with a real US-based production to get everything properly. The dialogues…
Yep! I hope it becomes the norm. Instead of the usual practice of just hiring a local foreigner who they won't even ask if their translation and scene is correct. πŸ˜…

So normally watching Korean, or even British and Canadian tv it's always a game of "spot the actor you know…
I think Disney was the first to actually hire veteran American actors? Even the script for the US side were locally written. And the scenes were clearly made by an American production company.

I hope this becomes the norm. At least as long as the quality is at par or better.

It's a good thing Filipinos are not here in MDL, after reading those comments from a few days ago, there would've…
I mean, seriously, the Philippines is the β„–1 country in Kdramaland that is often portrayed negatively. We just laugh at it and still watch.

πŸ€ͺ

Oh, we did file complaints at the diplomatic level too, multiple times. But not much changed.

At the end of the day, it is fiction.

However, we expect the same with their own. So, when a certain show was cancelled because it was "historically inaccurate", Filipinos told Koreans "it is fiction, don't you people know what fiction is? If you want historically accurate shows, watch a documentary!" The Koreans tried to defind themselves with, "it's our history, our culture". Which of course Filipinos also shut down with simple truths. 😜

Seriously, they kept painting our country negatively despite complaints on the diplomatic level. Little changes were seen. We understand, it is fiction. So we got back at them with "it is fiction" when they cancelled that Joseon zombie show a few years back. πŸ€ͺ

When nothing changes at the diplomatic level. Just wait for an opportunity to let them taste their own medicine. Sometimes, fighting fire with fire is the best option. In this case, fight fiction woth fiction. If they react badly, tell them, "it's fiction" and remind them they did the same to your own country (multiple times).
