Whenever there's an autistic character, people complain.

* "That's not how autism looks like."
* "I have a relative with autism, they are not like that."
* "A person with autism is this and that, not the way they portrayed it."

And oftentimes, the one's complaining are allistics and at the same time are fine with everything else far-fetched in the story but picking on an autistic character.

Autism is a four-dimensional spectrum. No two autistic persons are the same. There is an infinite combination of traits and quirks that makes each autistic person truly unique.

While, yes, there are stereotypical portrayals (and at times annoying) it doesn't make the character a "fake autistic". Most especially in a fictional story. 😁

Makes more sense that I'm somewhere near Level 2 but not exactly there. Only in certain areas that I need support, and often I never thought I need one since I'm lade dx'd, it became a natural reaction to find ways (or blame myself). But once I realized I need help, it makes it easier. Still a challenge but better than masking constantly and self-blaming.

Yeah, it was too fast and drastic. I wonder if she's used to 3+ days fasting. Maybe she was doing it on a weekly basis and then pushed it before that episode's filming?

As I've said in an Arirang TV news segment a few years back, "Autism is a three-dimensional spectrum".

Think of autism as a soundboard or sound mixer.
* Each knob is an autistic trait
* Each slide is an autistic quirk
* Both the knobs and sliders start at 0. This is what allistics are.
* Autistic persons are either hyper (positive number) or hypo (negative number) knob and slide
* However, not every knob (trait) and slider (quirk) has a "setting", it could very well be 0!

Now imagine that soundboard to be the professional type, which is huge (usually need 3 people to move it; or 2 if both are huge). You'll have hundreds, if not thousands of possible variations.

That's what it means by "autism is a three-dimensional spectrum".

In other words, Ozone is simply an autistic person with a unique combination of traits and quirks, and each of those trait and quirk are either hyper or hypo.

If Ozone is a mixture of, or a mismatch of, or all over the place, that's no different from telling an autistic person "You don't look like autistic, you're all over the place." To which we autistics reply with either "Why? How do autistics look like" or "You don't look allistic, you're all over the place". 😝 (Seriously, no kidding.)

The doctor did explain that autistic people can be hypersensitive. One such, which is common amongst us Autistics, is hypersensitivity to soundwaves and vibrations.

We do hear and feel things that most Allistics don't.

I can hear water dripping even though it's on the other room or a floor away.

I can hear a wallclock ticking that's on the other end of the living room or in the kitchen/dining area.

I'm often the first the feel if there's an earthquake even if it's mild, at ground level at that.

I can see patterns to things.

I get distracted by the little and/or insignificant things around when outside that most don't notice, see, or care about.

I need a lot of pillows to sleep properly. Otherwise, I keep on waking up.

There are certain clothes I hate to wear because I hate how it feels on skin.

I hate spontaneous hugs. I need to be mentally prepared for it.

You get the point. The doctor explained it and it is true. They simply exercised their literary freedom and added that maybe because Ozone is hypersensitive, he can hear the stars "talking".

And remember it is science-fiction so what's wrong with stars "talking"?

Give them that. They're allowed to exercise literary freedom, it is after all, _fiction_, science-fiction at that.

But granted, let's say they are not allowed to have literary freedom for whatever reason.

The Autism Spectrum is known to overlap with many other neurological disorders/conditions. In other words, Ozone may not be simply autistic, as someone else said above, could be schizophrenic too.

So, literary freedom or not, it's still within the realm of realism as far as knowledge about neurological disorders/conditions and Autism Spectrum are concerned.

4. The doctor did use the term "autistic", you can actually hear it said even by other characters. Not definding them, but it clearly shows the writer did their due diligence.

In most other countries, you'll never hear "autistic", it is always "with autism".

For most autistics and many of our allies, we highly prefer "Autistic" and avoid "with autism" as much as possible.

3. The autism depicted through Ozone is actually very close to the idea of Autism Spectrum in latest version of DSM and most especially ICD.

This is why "high-functioning" and "Low-functioning" were dropped because autism cannot be defined through that.

Some said Ozone was a mixture of various autism. This thinking comes from the old and obsolete understanding of autism. There is "mixture of various autism".

Think of Autism as a soundboard / soundmixer.

Every knob and every slider represents one particular trait and one particular quirk various autistic persons are known to possess (including those not identified yet).

Each knob and slider are set to 0.

Autistic A have traits Knob 1, knob 2, knob 3 set to "positive numbers" (hyper) and have quirks Slider A, Slider B, Slider C set to "negative numbers" (hypo).

Autistic B also have Knob 1 but in the negative. knob 3 in the positive, Knob at 0. And quirks Slider B in the positive but Slider A and Slider C set to 0.

* Do we say that Autistic A is "more autistic"? No.
* Do we say that Autistic B is a "mixture of various Autistics and has no personality"? No.

Both of them are Autistic persons. Not because Autistic B doesn't show certain traits and quirks does it make them "less autistic". Or, putting it another way, not because Autistic B appears to have a mixture of various autistic persons does it make them "unrealistic" or "fiction"-only.

Autistic B do exist, and many of them are undiagnosed or are not publicly sharing that they are autistic.

Goieg back to Ozone, yes, it depicts how DSM and ICD sees the Autism Spectrum.

2. But I also have traits and quirks that I don't have but other autistics have.
3. And those that I have, I am either too hyper, mid hyper, low hyper, low hypo, mild hypo, too hypo …which can be similar and different with other autistics I share the same traits and quirks.

Does it make me, or others, "less autistic"? Or, a "mixture of various autism"?

1. "Asperger's Syndrome" and all its variations are considered offensive regardless of how one use it. If one wants to keep using it, use it privately. Now I'm not one to care about it, however, if others saw/heard it, they will probably call people out. For one, Asperger was well-known to be a Nazi himself. Secondly, his study was for Nazi purposes, not to help Autistic kids. Of course, his supporters are denying it.

But again, I personally do not care. Just be careful when using it publicly.

2. "Aspergers" isn't on the "extended Autism Spectrum". There is no "extended Autism Spectrum" in the first place, there is only "The Autism Spectrum".

3. Yes, Asperger's Syndrome is considered "high-functioning autism" in the precious DSM. But it borders what was used to be called "classic autism".

If we are going to draw a simple line from left-to-right, "classic autism" is on the left side, bordering it to the right was "Aspergers", then next to Aspergers to the right is what was collectively called "PDD-NOS" (which is also used on other spectrums).

Aspergers and PDD-NOS are both high-functioning. Aspergers is easily identifiable, if you know what you are looking for, while PDD-NOS autism is very very hard to distinguish from other diagnoses.

Also, Aspergers was considered "mild", while PDD-NOS "light", and classic autism "full" / full-blown.

Again that's the old DSM.

Today, PDD-NOS is out of the Autism Spectrum. The less "severe" Aspergers is "Level 1 Autism". The "mild" Aspergers is between "Level 1" and "Level 2" while classic autism is between "Level 2" and "Level 3", and the entire Level 3 and higher simply grouped as Level 3.

It is not exact but it gives you an idea. So, "high-functioning" is Level 1 to Level 2.5. "Low-functioning" is Level 2.5 to Level 3.

Aspergers, high-functioning, Low-functioning, are no longer used. It's just Autism Spectrum.

Also, Level 1, 2, 3 autism is frowned upon by most of us Autistics, including many Allistic allies. Again, it's just the Autism Spectrum.

In the UK and other countries, it's "Autism Spectrum Condition"; while in countries that use DSM, it's "Autism Spectrum Disorder". We just use "Autism Spectrum", it is up to the autistic person if they consider their experience as a disorder or otherwise.

However, what is not is believing every word that came out of the Chef as if he was god. Any person who conveniently confirms our doubt on another is a suspicious one. They are using your own doubt to manipulate you.

It's why many people fall for scams. Scammers plant seeds of doubt by having planted people claim that it is real and not a scam.

That's what the Chef did. And the FL simply believed every single word he said because it aligned with her doubts against Mr. Homeless. When she should've started to doubt the Chef because of the fact.

If she was already doubting the Chef, she wouldn't end up signing the Memorandum of Agreement for the sales of their establishment and land. But she did, because she 100% trusted the Chef.

Anyone who conveniently tells you what you want to here are people you should be careful of. 😉 Either they want something from you, using you, or simply doesn't care.
