I'm also watching Romance in the Rain it's set in the 1930's Shanghai and you follow a family which fled from Manchuria during Japanese occupation. I like the time setting and the atmosphere, but it's mostly about this strong willed girl and her romance and drama of course. :P It was a pleasant romantic watch up until now. It lost my interest for a bit and don't feel like watching.
My workload is low and I'm working at home so I'm mostly just surfing the net and waiting until something piques my interest. Plus watching movie of course. ;)
I like JJH too she's a good actress, but in this case the little things that annoyed me just piled up and her character was one of them. It's my loss I guess. :)

Hehe, I know right. I can't quite figure out what you would like yet. I loved Pride too though rated it a 9 as well. And Bara no nai Hanaya is less focused on the romance but it is there and I thought that one was equally good if not better. Just different. It's just that I really enjoyed the slight mystery in it, I wonder what you will make of it. :P My taste is all over the place, I love romance as long as it's not too "cute" but I also love gore, horror and the likes. LOL
I agree on the Alien drama I actually watched more eps and it takes too long to get somewhere for my taste.

I'm dl-ing your suggestions as we speak. :)
I understand where you're coming from with the medical drama and SJH. But for me miracles still happen and I'm really enjoying it.
I also wouldn't have expected that you'd like Orange Days, but isn't it great that sometimes you still can be surprised by a drama ;) I guess that's why I'm still willing to try almost everything.
You who came from the stars is everything why I decided to cut down on the Korean (romance) drama's. I don't like the acting, the illogical childish behavior the silly humor or the unconvincing romance. The idea for the plotline I don't mind and it all looks great but it mostly just annoyed me sitting through the eps. But lets just say me and the drama don't go well together cause it seems like hordes of people really love it so I must be missing something. :P Feels like I Can Hear Your Voice all over again. LOL

I'm noting the movies down. I actually already saw a few but failed to mention them. I loved Infernal Affairs and Mulan too. I'll let you know when I'm done with the rest. ;)
I am actually watching Emergency Couple. I wasn't going to watch a drama and especially not an airing Korean romance story but I had an hour to kill and wanted to check out Ji Hyo in her new drama. The result is I'm totally hooked. In EC so far I'm liking almost all of the characters, there's no unnecessary drama. Little problems are solved easily and quickly. I'm not fond of humor in drama's but I like what they're doing here. It's not too childish or silly. I thought I wouldn't like the divorced couple thing and a hospital drama but it's just a great fun watch.
I saw you watched and liked Orange Days! It's a great watch and lovely to see Tsumabuki in his role. Are you watching any other drama or planning to?

I remember liking Dal Ja's spring but the story didn't stick with me so much but yeah for a noona romance it's certainly a good example for doing it right.
I'm till sticking to my believe that I wont be watching too many drama's so I'm not adding I need Romance to my list but then again my convictions change by the day so I might end up watching it. :P
LOL I'm actually have a few things which I don't like in that drama and an emotionless Alien wasn't part of it yet. :P
I loved Bara no nai Hanaya. Not too melodramatic at all. It's an uplifting human/family story with warm lovable characters. What I loved about it is that they mixed a bit of mystery into that. It's a great watch. Go for it esp. if you're already pondering about watching it. I'm curious how you will like it.

Yep Peppermint Candy is still very much worth the watch. I haven't watched Poetry yet but I did watch Parade and Pieta. I had such a great time watching them. Oke this sounds strange given the nature of Pieta but you know how it can feel when you're really into a movie while watching it plus it gives you food for thought.
I watched around 5 Kim Ki Duk movies now and he's not my favorite director. Or I should say I think his movies are good and I like the theme's but the movies don't always click with me like they do with some people. I later read up on some review for Pieta and I saw how it wasn't that well received by some critics, but I really loved the sometimes shocking way the movie grabs you and makes its point. For now it's my favorite Kim Ki Duk. What were your thoughts on it?
How was Visitor Q? I might get distracted from my list and watch that one soon as well.

Oh and a couple of days ago I said I was sticking to movies and now I got sucked into a drama. An airing rom/com even!! I had told myself that I would stay away from Korean romance drama's since they have been disappointing me last year. But now I started up Emergency Couple because I just wanted to take a peek at Ji Hyo's acting and I was hooked. I totally love the drama so far! I just hate that I started watching while it's still airing I usually make a point not to do so. Ran out of eps to watch and was so surprised how much I liked it that I decided to try another Korean romance "You Who Came from the Stars" but I'm at ep 3 now and this one reminded me of why I decided to not watch Korean romance drama's. LOL I guess I'll just stick with Emergency Couple.

Noona romance..hmm. Well I'm neither for or against per se. What I don't like is when it's done in an unnatural way but that goes for same-age romances as well. The thing is when it's a noona romance and it's unnatural then it's usually painful unnatural. LOL In the end I usually like men who can think for themselves and I'm not into weak boys but that has nothing to do with age difference, it's just something you see more often when they try to accentuate age difference. Also I don't like it when the drama centers on the age difference and the noona is making the age gap an obstacle for their entire lives happiness for +10 eps. I used to like forbidden romance though, when the couple is committed to each other but the drama focuses on social obstacles. But I haven't seen a good one in a while. What's your stand on the subject?

Yep let me know what you think. I'm even thinking about rewatching Casshern the movie keeps popping up in my head so I feel I have to watch it again to see if the plot was really that "bad" and the visuals really that great. Sometimes my first impressions get exaggerated the longer I think about it so I have to get back and verify. :P
I bet I would like them as well. It's just that HK or China isn't usually my go to area when I'm looking for movies. Maybe you could suggest me some. From what I've watched the top ones would be House of the Flying Daggers, Farewell My Concubine, The Warlords, 2046 but I also enjoyed the Detective Dee movies and Lust, Caution among others.
Yeah I agree you have to feel like watching a certain movie and those two don't fit every mood.

I hope your so-so mood is only temporarily and things are looking up now. For me I've had a winter blues myself. Doubting my job, relationship etc. In the end all is good and I pulled through but it's what happens from time to time. ;)
I can be a sucker for tragedies if done correctly so I'm planning on watching it. I used to think I didn't like them either but looking back on what I've watched I seem to like them after all. LOL What I hate is misfortune and tragedy which doesn't make sense in the story and dumb decisions characters make. As long as the writer manages to sell the tragedy in a believable way I'm all good. Will only be watching after it finishes airing though, so will take a while.

Noriko's Dinner Table is def not a horror. It does have some bloody scene's but nothing compared to a normal sword movie. So you're safe there. I also watched Suicide Club and although that one is supposed to be a horror I found it more of a psychological shock movie as well. It's more horror then Noriko's Dinner Table though. Plus you can watch it without watching the other but I liked to see the difference and thought it complimented Suicide Club. I liked how original it was and loved the theme, but I thought the pacing was a bit lacking and in the end I thought it lost a bit of coherency but that's just my personal opinion. I would recommend if you like to think about movies. There are different layers in almost every character. It's out of the ordinary and it's Sion Sono. :P

I'm thinking about including Goemon yes. Watched it now btw. And yes Goemon definitely has a better story but I kept comparing it with Casshern. It's like Casshern is art and Goemon is a good movie with entertaining story. Which one you'll prefer depends on what you expect from a movie. I rated Casshern higher because I was blown away by the visuals and symbolics while I thought Goemon was a beautiful movie I expected more. Maybe in this case it mattered which one I watched first. I can see why opinion are mixed.
Let me know what you think!
Same for me I'm a movie freak not only Asian ones but I love discovering new directors and actors that's why my focus is on Asian movies. I'll have to dive deeper in the Hong Kong and Chinese movies though. Haven't watched a lo of those yet.

- The Sword of Doom
- Three Outlaw Samurai
- Kuroneko
I was looking for some lesser known not "standard" samurai movies.
Oh and I recently watched I'm a cyborg but that's ok. It's a lovable quircky movie in which you shouldn't take things literally. I really enjoyed it and thought it was sweet. So it's a must see in my book. :P
Pfft so that's what I have lined up right now. LOL knowing me however I think it will take me some time.

- Cold Eyes: because I love Korean thrillers and Jung Woo-Sung

I have my HD full of movies which I intend to watch but I tend to get distracted so some other movies might be added. Anyways here's my list for now:
- Goemon: which is by Kazuaki Kiriya. It's an action adventure in Robin Hood style. I recently watched his other movie Casshern which was a visual poem but lacked in story still I was quite impressed.
- Parade: really interested in this one. It's a human story about different people living together and their bonds. But how well do they know eachother?
- Kisaragi: an ensemble film comical mystery about fandom would fit the description I think.
- Pieta: to add to my Kim Ki-Duk list
- The Machine Girl: revenge movie with crazy gore and a girl with a machine gun as arm. Has to be fun right. :P

Ah then the Holiday wishes come in handy. :P Hope you're enjoying your time with family. :)
I'm on the movie bandwagon again and have loads planned. As for drama's I am interested in starting some up plus I have time for it again, but there are not many that really caught my attention. For now I'll try watching drama's from my ptw list to clean it up a bit. Right now I'm watching a Chinese drama Romance in the Rain which isn't all too bad, but there are small things that are starting to bug me in terms of character growth and unnecessary drama. Lets say I'm more into movies still for now. I'll probably look for a shallow cheesy drama or some melodrama-ish show to watch to satisfy my craving for cheesy romance which I actually hate in movies. LOL Yeah I'm weird.
So what have you been watching? Has anything blown you away?

I just now finished watching Casshern. Watched most of the movie with my jaw dropped in awe for the visuals and effects used. It looked like a work of art. But it lacked in character motivation and story. I just gave up on the story and enjoyed the ride. It's like a poem written in numerous different poetic forms. Also I loved all symbolic references and the music. It's just a shame that the story and characters are a mess IMHO but I think for once I'm forgiving enough to not let it weigh down on my rating too much. You should definitely watch it in HD if at all possible. Next up Goemon.

A Bittersweet Life and Lady Vengeance both are DVD's in my move collection but I haven't watched Lady Vengeance yet. I should hang my head in shame. Thing is I loved Old Boy so much I was rather disappointed in Mr. Vengeance. It's still a great movie though but my expectations where really high. :P Anyway it made Lady Vengeance a lesser priority to watch. But I'll probably watch it soon it's the only movie Park Chan-Wook directed aside from "If You Where Me" which I didn't watch yet.
