I'm on episode 8 and loving it so far. I'm really looking forward to the development of the main leads as a couple as well as individiuals.
The FL is very lively. I love her positive attitude and confidence. There were definitely moments when I wished she was a bit smarter, but I suppose that's the area where she can grow.
I'm loving the interactions between the FL and the ML.
One of the major things that I didn't like was the inconsistency of the setup of its society. First of all, there's not enough explanation on the role reversals and how exactly it affects society beyond the fact that we're told that women are the ruling gender. Secondly, even though women are the rulers in the world of the drama, somehow we still ended up with a FL who is the typical "damsel in distress" who's constantly saved by the more talented, more intelligent and stronger ML. What was even the point of reversing the roles and giving us a FL who's the rising star in the kingdom, if she's still inferior to the ML in every way?
Another major issue I had with this drama by the end was that almost none of the plot even led anywhere. In the end none of the things anyone did meant anything.
The plot is rather inconsistent and messy and the FL's actions and behaviour made her unlikable at some points.
The parts where this drama shined where the funny and cute moments. Those were also the moments the FL did well. Her acting wasn't very convincing in the emotional scenes. Thankfully, the couple did share enough chemistry to make the romance work. I also appreciated the ML's performance.
This drama would have definitely benefited if the writers focused on either making it a cute and fun romance or a dark and tragic story. As it is, they seemed to have tried to mix the two together with disappointing results.
It's ok for a one time watch if you're in between dramas and looking for something short.
If you're familiar with previous Painted Skin adaptations, you pretty much know what to expect.
The plot of this movie is not the complicated type. It's pretty straightforward and there are no real twists and turns. At first glance, it may even seem boring. The FL and the ML lead also don't really share any chemistry on screen which could have helped a lot.
I did like the demons in this adaptation. The costumes were pretty and the fight scenes were fun to watch.
If it is the romance alone that is good, then this drama is a waste of my time.I love xianxia dramas, but i cant…
It's always best to try a drama and make up your own mind on whether it's worth watching, but I can tell you the plot is repetitive and a bit messy. Also contradictory to itself sometimes. It had its moments.
This was sometimes a bit of a struggle to finish. The plot is repetitive and a little messy. The FL's lack of intelligence is very frustrating. There were things about her that I did appreciate. She's a strong FL that doesn't wait around to be rescued. But I really would have appreciated some intelligence.
Every man she had a 'fling' with except for Bai Yue is insufferable. Most are just plain villains that actively contribute to her getting hurt. Cang Qi never physically hurt her, but his obsession definitely had to be mentally exhausting. The guy doesn't understand the meaning of the word 'No'. Obviously what he felt for her was never really love or at least not purely love.
Tha being said, the drama definitely had its moments. At times funny and at times emotional. I suppose that's the reason why I kept watching until the end.
I'm on episode 6 and all I can say at this point is that the FL has some questionable taste in men.- Tang Yang…
Made it to episode 11 and I have to change my initial assessment of Tang Huan. Or rather add to it. Not only is he an ambitious coward, but turns out he's also a psychopath. Must be something in the water in that Tang Clan of theirs.
1. YX was evil to even think of letting TTJ be murdered so I guess it was her karma to get raped by the disgusting…
The problem I have with Lan An's betrayal is not even the fact that she chose to betray him to save her daughter. Most people would. The problem is that she was stupid enough to trust TTML. He is someone who has blamed TTJ's mother ever since his mother was killed and by extension hated TTJ and the whole Yue tribe. What in the world made her think he was going to keep whatever promise he made her?
On top of that she didn't seem to feel regret or pretended not to, because according to her TTJ is a worthless and monstrous human being. All that without registering the fact that most people around TTJ who were 'normal' did far more monstrous things, including her.
She made her choice and she died for it. All actions have consequences.
Just like YXW jumping overboard is a consequence of TTJ's actions. As sad as it was that another abandoned him.
Genuine question please. What do people see in this drama? Why is it rated so high? I started it because of the…
Your own opinion and taste is as valid as anyone elses. If you don't like it, then you don't like it. There's no point forcing yourself to like this drama just because the rating is high.
I would advise to give it a fair chance and not base your opinion on the first few episodes. If it fails to impress you after that, then at the very least you won't have regrets.
I'm on episode 6 and all I can say at this point is that the FL has some questionable taste in men.
- Tang Yang = a selfish psychopath - Tang Huan = an ambitious coward - Cang Nan = a two faced, spoiled brat - Cang Qi = a clingy drama queen
Does Bai Yue even have a life? He just follows her around trying to fix her messes left and right.
Most of the characters are caricatures as they only appear when they are required by the plot.
I don't really dislike the FL, but her "innocence" and "naivity" does get old really fast. She's not exactly smart. Her only merit seems to be that she's strong, resilient and good natured. I wish they had given her some intelligence.
By episode 6, the ML doesn't seem to have too much of a presence. As I already mentioned, he shows up to clean up her mess, but otherwise we don't really see a lot of him. Hopefully that will change.
Unfortunately, I must also admit that so far there's not a lot of chemistry between the ML and the FL. Maybe that will change once we get some more scenes of them together.
The FL also doesn't have chemistry with any other of her flings.
The editing could have been better and would have helped the story flow a bit more naturally.
It's not the best thing I have ever seen, but so far it managed to be entertaining enough to continue watching.

I put BOR on my list as well as BFTB. But I'm waiting for all the episodes to air. To be honest, I'm not expecting any other drama any time soon to be on the same level as TTEOTM. That doesn't mean I won't enjoy them. I like different dramas for different reasons.
Which Xianxia hero makes the best dad poll? What do you guys think? LOLhttps://www.instagram.com/p/CtBPjj-vqSv/?igshid=NzJjY2FjNWJiZg==
I watched 3 out of 4 of these (waiting for BFTB to finish airing). I think the reason why most people choose Tantai Jin is bacause Yingyuan and Youqin both chose responsibility and duties over the FL for the majority of the drama, while Tantai Jin always put Li Susu first. All three, in my opinion, lacked proper care during their childhood. For Yungyuan and Youqin, their duties were pushed on them to the point of breaking. Tantai Jin obviously had a very painful and sad life. So all three would want to give their child the care they didn't receive.
I would personally still choose Tantai Jin, because not only will he give his children the best, but he will always put them and Li Susu first. Even if the world breaks apart.
I am rewatching some of my favourite scenes again but I am tearing up ðŸ˜ðŸ˜¢
I've been watching other dramas, but to be honest I'm on the verge of just getting lots of ice cream and rewatching all 40 episodes. Although I might skip Bing Chang and Tian Huan.
