While the story is interesting, this movie suffers from bad editing. The story could've been conveyed so much better with decent editing. Unfortunately, most Xianxia and Wuxia movies I have watched suffer from the same problem.

Another obvious issue that Xianxia movies usually suffer from is the short duration of the movies as a format. There's usually a lot to tell, but because of the limited time, you have to pick and choose what to show in the movie and a few bad choices can lead to a good story being ruined. I actually liked what they decided to show in this movie, but because there was so much more to tell and because it was edited sloppily, a lot of the potential of the story was lost and the performances of the actors didn't really get through as much. I feel like the actors did a decent job, but some of it ended up being lost. Most of it can be blamed on not enough time to develop the characters, so they all ended up being shallow versions of themselves.

All in all, it's not too bad. I still enjoyed the movie. Just sad that it could've been so much better.

i skimmed through some eps to see when FL could be free from ML. I thought it was ep8 but it's not. Ep11 FL is…
Unfortunately that's true for many dramas. The leads are sometimes really horrible to each other in the beginning. I suppose it's to emphasize how they change later. BTW, I had no issue with you dropping the drama. That's obviously your choice and you can drop it for whatever reason and it would be nobody's business. Just don't want people to get the wrong idea and think it has a horrible ML, while both the ML and the FL did some questionable things.

I see you had no problem with her drugging him, stripping him and drawing a naked portrait of him. The things he did may not be proper, but she wasn't exactly blameless. If you point out the improper behaviour, might as well point out everything to be fair. You can't skip the things she did wrong just because it's a woman doing it to man. Imagine if he did the same thing. I'm sure everyone would be up in arms.

FYI, before you mention it, I'm not defending the ML and the things he did in the beginning. Just trying to be fair.

Title Oh! My Sweet Liar! Spoiler
I just finished watching this and oh my god, the lie that just never ended. When she didn't even take the opportunity…
That was definitely my reaction too. She was stabbed (kind of) and they already said the baby was lost, but then she went ahead and continued the lie by saying the baby was fine!!!!??? And they believed her? No one questioned anything?

Continuing the lie just because her father-in-law was sad and blamed himself was just next level stupidity. The FL just never thought ahead and simply tried to solve the current problem without thinking of the consequences.

Agreed, the comments were too harsh. As I mentioned in my comment above, I enjoyed his performance. They all indeed did well portraying their characters, which contributed to making this relatively simple story enjoyable to watch.

I think that the reason why his emotional scenes worked so well was because they matched his personality. They weren't over the top, but you could feel how sad and broken he was. And even in those moments he seemed to want to hold back. The SML on the other hand is much 'louder' with his emotions. His anger is undeniable and his sadness is there for everyone to see. Both were interesting in their own way.

Jut like you, I came across the webtoon and read the English parts that was available, but never finished it,…
Not really that bad. Neither Lim Joo Gyung nor Lee Su Ho waver in their feelings for each other in the slightest throughout the whole drama. I think it's the audience that really liked the SML and wanted them together, but they were never really anything more than friends.

I hope you like the drama.

I actually agree with you. The 8.4 rating of this drama is too high. At most it should be around 7.5 and that's…
Exactly the point I was trying to make in an earlier comment. We overlook some unacceptable behaviour from the ML simply because he's the ML and we are meant to see the things he does as romantic.

To be fair, ML's in most dramas have a few creepy scenes.

Everything is a matter of opinion. Yours is as valid as mine. Thank you for aknowledging that. In this case mine is actually the unpopular opinion, as most people really liked this drama and the male lead. It all depends on what you end up focusing on. Once you see him as creepy, that's all he's ever going to be.

You're probably right. Might have been some confusion when it was initially announced.

This is definitely a drama that you need to finish to appreciate the message they're trying to convey, which is that everyone is beautiful in their own way and that you won't be happy living life not being yourself. Not the most original of messages, but still nice to see.

I really didn't like the ML initially, because he seemed so arrogant and shallow, which he definitely is, but it seems to originate in his abandonment issues. It was nice to see a change in his perception and see how beautiful the FL really is. It must've been confusing for him, but he did realise that even though he was attracted to his "ideal girl", the one he fell in love with is the FL.

I really appreciated the SML in this one. I would have been just as happy if she ended up with him instead. He was very supportive and protective of his friend. and I genuinely think it wasn't because he was in love with het, but because he care for her as a friend without any strings attached.

I wish they made Kang Mi Joo a bit more likeable, but I guess she was supposed to be the beautiful girl with the bad personality. She seemed so selfish and childish and I really couldn't bring myself to like her at all.

The story itself is initially a bit frustrating to watch. Obviously we live in a society where looks are very important and beautiful people are treated differently. This is even more evident in South Korea, which makes the FL's frustration at being treated worse because she's "ugly" very understandable. This is something she has obviously struggled with her whole life. Being overlooked, being in the background, ... Even though she's actually an amazing and talented person. The biggest issue is that she herself also thinks that she's ugly and she doesn't have any confidence. I was really glad to see her accepting and liking herself for who she is by the end.

One of the other issues is the fact that the FL also falls for him because of his looks, as the first thing about him that people see is his shallow and arrogant side, which let's be honest is not very attractive. Not matter how beautiful he may be.

The biggest issue I had with this drama is that the FL didn't see earlier that the ring was not making her happy. He was falling in love with her and was treating her well, but it was all fake, because it wasn't her that he was seeing. There was no way that that could have a happy ending. Even though she was reluctant to end it, because it was the first time that someone liked her, it was still not worth it.

All in all, for a short drama this was fun and entertaining enough to keep my attention.

Title Queen of the Ring Spoiler
Not sure if i were to continue after ep2. FL’s mom used the ring to her dad. Not sure if the dad already know…
Her mother didn't use the ring on her father. It's revealed half way through that she doesn't wear the ring when she's with him and in the last episode her mother and father tell her that she never used the ring on him. She did use the ring once before on another guy, but he left her when he saw her real face and she never used it again. She only decided to give her daughter the ring, because she kept staring that the drawing she made on the ML all day lol. I feel like her mother should have known better, since she went through the heartbreak of using the ring herself and decided not to use it again. She should have known that the ring wouldn't bring her daughter happiness, but I guess that she also wanted her daughter to learn to love herself the way she is and that is something the ring did end up teaching her.

Title True Beauty
I finally watched this drama. I came across the webtoon before the drama was announced and read the chapters that were available in English at the time. For some reason I never really got back to reading the rest. I did initially plan to watch the drama, because the cast seemed to fit the parts really well and it looked like it would be a fluffy and cute type of drama. Unfortunately, it kept being pushed back while I focused on other dramas. I finally finished it and I must say for the most part it delivered the fluffy and cute and there was plenty of funny too.

One thing that I really loved about this drama are the side characters. They all seemed to have very interesting personalities and made the episodes lively.

Lim Joo Gyung is a rather typical kind and bright FL. It was actually to the point where I would shout at the screen for her to get some backbone and to get angry and do something. Unfortunately, there were not enough (just a few) of those moments where she would stand up for herself and she remained rather mild until the end. She was also rather childish in speech and behaviour, but once again that's something rather typical in dramas, especially in a high school setting. Moon Ga Young did do a good job portraying the character as a vulnerable girl who was trying very hard to be strong while thinking that she's weak herself.

There were many bad comments about Cha Eun Woo's performance as Lee Su Ho, but I actually enjoyed it. Whether it was because he fit the part well or because he did a good job acting is yet to be seen, as this is the first drama of his that I ever watched. Similar to Lim Joo Gyung, the character is a rather typical ML. Cold on the outside, but warm on the inside. He's a very guarded person and doesn't show a lot of emotion, but is very kind and caring once you get to know him. Like Lim Joo Gyung, Lee Su Ho is rather mild. The two are also at their best in the quiet moments when they enjoy each others company.

Han Seo Jun compared to the other two leads is much more dramatic and lively. I think that's the reason why his character was so popular. Hwang In Youp is a charismatic presence on screen, which helps the character stand out.

I absolutely have to mention Lim Hee Gyung and Han Jun Woo. This couple made me laugh so much. They are an absolute match. The confident Lim Hee Gyung and the shy Han Jun Woo had the traditional roles of male and female in dramas reversed with Hee Gyung pursuing and Jun Woo shyly accepting. I really loved that it wasn't a typical drama romance.

That being said, there were some things that I found a bit unsettling.

First of all, the bullying incident. The video was spread, but the teachers didn't do anything because it didn't occur in their school and it was all just glossed over once she returned to school. I wanted them to do more. Take more responsibility, since it was such a large part of the FL life.

Another thing was the FL's mother. Right from the start I really hated the way she treated her own daughter. She obviously treated the other two children better than her and kept calling her ugly and stupid. She was definitely one of the biggest bullies in the FL's life and I can't imagine how hard it must've been for her to be treated like that by her own mother her whole life. Eventually she admits that it was her fault for not treating her daughter better, but she never realises that she basically bullied her own daughter. Yes, she loved her. Yes, she wanted her to have a good life. But did she really have to go about it that way? Did she really have to blatantly favour the other two children? Was it really necessary to make everything about her daughter's looks and then resenting her for putting on make up? Absolutely not!!! I was glad to see her change her behaviour, but I wish she had suffered more before she was forgiven. I feel like in most dramas where the mothers are really awful to their children, they eventually just have to say sorry once and they're easily forgiven, just because they're mothers. Crying once and saying sorry doesn't excuse years of abuse.

The story itself is pretty straightforward and standard. There are many standard tropes and it's rather predictable. You will be basically watching this for the fun characters and the fluffy romance.

All in all, it was an entertaining drama.

After many recommendations, I decided to watch this movie. I didn't really know what to expect, but the summary is accurate. It's lighthearted, cute and emotional. It's not as explicit as you might expect and focuses on the characters' journey and uses their inexperience to teach the audience about this often sensitive and private topic. Fun at some parts and emotional at other, it really does well following how the two discover each other as well as their preferences.
