REALLLLL, mdl and douban are crazy in their own ways lol. Douban favors political/suspense/military dramas over romance/fantasy typically, MDL is kind of the opposite. Rating bombs are a similarity tho 🙂‍↕️

I would say it's always been "the thing", and the trend of original voices in wuxia/xianxia is on the rise. Famous "old time" historical/fantasy cdramas often have a fully dubbed cast (Journey of flower, eternal love, scarlet heart etc.)

you can "infer" from his dialogue and eye contact that he sees someone else in her. that someone else would be his past lover (hua ru yue), who looks exactly like her. more is revealed with the incoming episodes, but gradually we see how he can't let go of the past, thus he desires to find out Li Qing Yue's true identity/history.

I've enjoyed it, would say it's romance but more on the melodramatic side (several timelines, love and hate), complex love line is between FL and ML

i think fan ling er / zhang suan will become a second couple later on based on the relationship chart

same vibes as in the genres? (rich guy poor girl, sickness, motherhood, FL changes ML, 2000s classic drama style) or as in the melodramatic quality? I feel like the plot was quite complex but was only completed with the stellar acting. Ik other dramas with similar components but they may not have delivered as well as this one

I think she has genuinely forgotten her past pains but still feels lingering emotions which confuse her (connection with snake, power of siling's flame). Nonetheless, like how Bai Jiusi is continuously pondering whether she's "A yue" or not, the audience is split on the same topic. That's a sign of a complex script and great acting from both leads🙂‍↕️

about the whole mdl rating situation, it's inevitable because no public drama site with ratings can truly prevent against the bias of fans and haters. many great 10/10 dramas this year truly left an impression on me but still ended up with subpar ratings. personal enjoyment & show success in mainland china is not affected by these numbers, so I would encourage all watchers to rate only after watching and ignore the weird fluctuations 🫶 happy watching !!
