Howdy :) I just wanted to say I absolutely love reading your reviews. They are so well thought out and organized; they are easily some of the best I've read on here.

I read a little bit of everything, fiction-wise at least. The largest percentage of my books are young adult and science fiction/fantasy, but I do have quite a bit of romance, horror, and mystery. What kind of books do you like to read? :)

Article writer: Finds drama about characters with disabilities inspiring. Uses word "retarded"...
Thank you for this comment :) I seriously couldn't find the words, and that was just perfect :) As someone who has had her own fair share of situations where there was some one who stood up for me and a fair amount of situations where someone hasn't, there is nothing more empowering than someone saying they understand. Feeling alone and like no one will speak for you when you have no voice is the worst feeling in the world.

Shaza, if you have never been hurt by a word that someone has said to you, then I suppose I can understand your indifference. However, if you have ever felt less than what you are really worth because someone picked on you for some perceived difference, I'd just like to end this with a reiterance of femme's comment that words have power, whether we see that power or not.

I don't want to belabor the point here, but you are looking at it backwards. Certainly, not all people with physical disabilities have mental handicaps. Someone who is "retarded" has a learning disability and is therefore disabled. That is the link. You are using a term to describe a mentally handicapped person and using it colloquially to imply that there is something wrong and/or undesirable about your person. You can use whatever words you like, there is no freer country than the Internet. But that doesn't mean it's not offensive.

I should like to say that your article was a lot of fun to read, and I could identify with a lot of what you said about the emotions experienced when finishing a drama. I think we have all gone through some similar spectrum of emotions :) I just wanted to say that it is incongruous to be both inspired by someone with a handicap and insult the same group of individuals in the space of a few sentences. I am not a professional on the subject, but I still care enough about others to not want to use offensive terminology when I can help it. In the same respect that you wouldn't use the N word, the R word should be off limits as well.

I think it's a fair point to suggest more appropriate alternatives. But again, I agree with femmedesneiges that there is no synonym for retarded to describe what she is trying to say here. Eccentric, aberrant behavior, anomalous, outlandish. All good words to describe diverging from the norm.

As to an actual substitute term for "retard", I just finished a certification class over the integration of special education students into standard classrooms, and they stress the use of "learning disability" in place of more offensive terminologies.

If you think retarded and disabilities have no connection, I suspect you don't really know what they mean and how offensive it is to call someone, even yourself, retarded.

To be fair, I don't think you were trying to be offensive by using it. It's still good to understand why it's not exactly the appropriate word to use in this situation, or really any situation.

I have to admit, I had the same thought.

It is so fantastic to hear from you, chickadee! I have missed you like crazy :) I am so sorry you haven't had time for dramas, but just think about how amazing the summer will be! And it's not too far away now :)

I haven't watched too many dramas this year! I've watched Prime Minister and I, Scent of a Woman, You Who Came from the Stars and The King of Dramas.

You Who Came from the stars was AMAZING! It was seriously a lot of fun. There were a couple episodes towards the end that weren't quite as good, but overall it was fantastic! And the ending is good, so it's safe for you to watch! Though, I did shed tears once or twice, it wasn't anything too bad.

Prime Minister and I was OK. The first 12 episodes were phenomenal, and then the last 3 or 4 episodes were just garbage. I wouldn't bother with it if I were you.

Scent of a Woman you should avoid like the plague! I liked it, but I know how you hate sad dramas, and it is a ridiculously sad drama. The main couple was cute together though!

The King of Dramas blew my mind!! I had avoided it for so long cause it didn't seem like something I would like, but it was just phenomenal. I have never watched a drama like it before. The main couple was good, though I'd have liked a little bit more PDA :p But that's always my complaint!

I don't watch movies much, but Penny Pinchers is one of my favorites of what I have watched! Song Joong Ki is cute in it. And the ending is good :)

I am so glad to have you back, chickadee :)

I'm stuck in a drama slump, so I have been rewatching some of my favorites, and I can't believe how good this drama is the second time around. I really thought it wouldn't have a very high rewatch ability, but it's still so much fun watching the operations the agency pulls off the second time around :p

Sorry to say I didn't like this show it was to chaotic for me I had trouble following the story line and with…
How far in did you get before you dropped it? I didn't have that problem, but I can see how it could be seen as chaotic. I think once you make it past the third or fourth episode that the chemistry with the cast just really starts to shine. This drama was definitely nothing new or revolutionary, but it was still seriously cute, and a lot of fun along the way. I don't normally like ajusshi romances, but Seo Il Rok totally stole my heart!

This defiantly became on my favourite Hong sisters dramas =). But don't you feel Jo Jong Won has the same character…
I think that's why I loved him so much! He reminded me so much of Dokko Jin! And with it being the same actress it was even more noticeable!

I really want to watch this drama .. Everyone recommend me to watch it .. But the ghost is too scary lol
Once you get past the first couple episodes, the ghosts aren't nearly as scary! There were a couple ghosts in the begging that were really, really scary. But after maybe episode 4 or 5, I was able to watch it without waiting for my boyfriend to come home so I wasn't alone :p

This was a really fun article, more please! :) I love Jung Suk Won's character in Rooftop Prince, he really did…
Seriously. His role in Haeundae Lovers was so disappointing after Rooftop Prince! I was really excited about it just because of him, and he ended up being my least favorite thing about the show.

This made me so happy to hear :) I was worried about giving a recommendation! Anthony is definitely ambitious! And so very good at what he does, even if he does use some dirty tricks to get there. Their relationship builds slowly, but it is so good because of that. None of that love at first glance that dramas seem to fall back on so often. Anyway, I am glad you are loving it!! :)
