A small detail that I read about on xhs:

In the scene where Shen Xi He is talking with Xiao Changqing, we see a maple leaf in the background. In ancient times, maple leaves were all about expressing sadness.
There is also an even deeper symbolism there based on a famous Chinese poem:
In "Chu Ci · Zhao": "The deep blue waters flow, with maples above." This piece is traditionally attributed to Qu Yuan.
That riverside with "maples above" is actually King Huai of Chu's hometown,
and the room with the maple? That's Gu Qingzhi's old place.
So Xiao Changqing's basically hoping Gu Qingzhi will come back home, just like Qu Yuan hoped King Huai of Chu would.
